75827 Ghostbusters Firehouse Headquarters Discussion
Sven F replied to kelceycoe's topic in LEGO Licensed
On shelves as in Ecto-1, the photo just used the HQ as background. -
I hate all transparent colorored pieces used for windows, especially windscreens on cars, I change them all out fot trans clear. Not a fan of flesh minifigs, but that's a separate matter.

Minifig parts and accessories you don't like
Sven F replied to AmperZand's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I agree on the beard piece, it just doesn't look like a beard, not a fan of skirts or slope dresses either, but i think the worst piece is that humongous turkey from scala, it looks like a fried dinosaur. -
As a big advocate against censorship, especially of that which concerns children, i would still say no. I think megablocks is using legos moral principles to its advantage, but that's part of the reason we don't associate that brand with such positive thoughts.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Sven F replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
I think forum feedback plays a very insignificant role if any at all compared to plain sales figures. Although the designers might be driven subconsciously by a bit of that feedback. Let's hope so. -
Thanksgiving looks much better. I wonder though if it will be available in europe outside uk since this holiday isnt celebrated or even known very well here.

Meh, the easter and valentines sets were at least one class above this. This looks like some kid's mediocre MOC

what would it take to cut out LEGO from your life?
Sven F replied to legoman19892's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I have to admit a lot it is down to LEGO's strategies. If they ever hit as low as they did in their years of chrisis in the late 90's with those gigantic blocks, i'd be ready to sell. -
This is one of the most fantastic things i've seen recently. Very clever

That doesn't sound so terrible, I thought they were limiting purchases. Maybe they'll compensate the lost space by not putting so many basic bricks in the PaB tubs since they'll obviously need those for the models. Our PaB, doesn't use cups and so doesn't use any space on the wall to store them in the first place. I do sense a slight disturbance in TLG's support for AFOL's recently though.
-
What exactly is the problem here? I still see the cups there so why would this interfere with your regular PaB purchases? Or are they going to use separate tubs for the models and use up existing PaB space?

A soon as I saw your name, I had to see... I'm not into historic / fantasy themes, but your stuff is always very impressive.

I don't understand why this model uses trans-black windscreens. It didn't have tinted windows, what's wrong with trans-clear?

Definitely lower your ISO for a start. Always put your ISO to as low as you can get away with, and use good lighting instead. You need A LOT of light for filming indoors. For lego, if you want most of your layout in focus, use high F, and long exposition to get a wide depth of field. If you want only a small part in focus (like a minifigure) and everything else blurred, lower your F and use shorter exposure for a shallower depth of field. Also zooming in drastically narrows your DOF, so use that to your advantage. ... and don't do anything without a tripod.

I take it those expensive leaf plants you need hundreds of to make a single tree, were never on that list. I also take it this list isn't available for us to see?

I remember having a news crew set with a van and a helicopter, but it was from the late 90's I had a box where i stuffed all the useless stuff i got in sets, and that's where my helicopters, boats and planes were kept along with duplo.

I don't have a problem with anyone making money, but some of those videos are plain lazy when it comes to anything apart from acquiring sets as fast as possible before others. There is this general opinion in the states that you study for a certain profession, and then you are the only person qualified to handle equipment for which you have a "degree" and you can't go near anything else. Well here's some news for you, You don't need to be a professional camera man, narrator, compositor and photographer to know how to do all of these things properly, or at least show some ambition and perfect your skills so you stand out from the average kid on youtube that got a gopro for christmas. Another thing you shouldn't need a special school for is manners. Shouting at your viewers in fake enthusiasm and playing violent jingles is just plain annoying. Show me a video where the reviewer doesn't either drop the camera view to their carpet or can't fit something in the frame while continuing to ramble on excuses about having a too something to show it properly. Show some effort, your lighting is bad? buy a f****** lamp!!!

The slushee was just an example, I meant little thingymajigs in general, but there's a purple slushee in the set.

Seems like PAB walls around the world have pretty much the same assortment of bricks and colors on offer that circulate at any one time. Does anyone know how TLG decides which bricks are given out? My theory was that it's mostly recycling surplus bricks from new sets that were manufactured in large batches, but not used up for any other purpose. I suppose any separate mold and color costs to set up and it wouldn't be worthwhile to manufacture just a couple of thousand pieces of any single brick, and only so many are needed for a set currently sold. The exception here being minifigures, animals and generally attractive parts which would then be intentionally under-manufactured to increase their rarity/appeal and better sell sets they are included in. Did I get this wrong? I also found it peculiar that "make a minifig" tubs in the shop have a lot of parts from previous CMF's never enough to make any complete cmf (probably intentionally). Currently on offer in zagreb: https://scontent-mxp.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xaf1/t31.0-8/11043429_936970096355514_7830758121983224324_o.jpg (the picture is too large to embed)

I seriously doubt all the pieces are printed, but a lot of them seem to be which is a good thing. Blue tinted windows really annoy me, especially on the car, but it's a cartoon so whatever. I expect all the new pieces with prints to reach a high price on bricklink as a lot of people will want slushees, but not be willing to pay 200 eur for the set. If the set had more exclusive minifigures, it would be more profitable for breaking down, but this way, accessories will be the key selling pieces.

There was always something about Brick Queen I didn't like. The camera work is extremely amateurish and comments are very trivial without any constructive information. And if there is something I hate with a passion, it's censorship.

Great idea with a B-movie classic. I got one of those same angry storage heads as a present, but never found much use for it. Thinking out of the box in LEGO always wins extra points. (pun unintentional)

That Juniors grocery set is fantastic, I'll be buying that for the printed parts and all the food, can never have enough trans-clear windshields (since i have an ocd where i have to change out all the tinted ones) minifigs are cool, apart from that waffle plate, almost zero redundant parts.

If I got this right, a review batch/period doesn't have to approve ANY project in that batch if they decide nothing works. As well as approve more than 1 project if more than one is good enough. Its not a contest, its an audition with indefinite roles.

Congrats to my favorite LEGO reviewer. I watch his reviews even for some sets that i'd never buy. It is very hard to be professional in reviewing, you have to give an opinion, but not be too direct. Another thing I really appreciate is, he doesn't make any annoying sounds, doesn't shout or try to be funny too hard like many, many others out there. (I have to mute my speakers for the brick show for the first couple seconds of every video)
