This is a nice build, Bacon Potatoes! I like the rockwork and foliage. The refining process is shown and explained in nice detail. The water trough is my favorite part. For a slight improvement tip, I think the base looks a little bit blocky using only plates. I would recommend using wedge plates and round plates to help break up the squared lines in the ground. Brick on, Bacon Potatoes!

Thanks, de Gothia! There are a lot of parts used for the tree, but I agree that it is worth it. Plus, I have plenty of parts at my disposal. Thanks for the tip on the base plate, too. In this particular case, I did not want to hide the base. I usually prefer irregular bases to make it look more realistic, but this was an attempt at a bordered base. The entire base is meant to have the Mitgardian green band as well as the brown tiled band to enclose the build. The green plates are entirely extraneous for the structure and strength of the build and are only there for the bordering effect. Maybe I should have incorporated a base that was more distinctly different from the landscape.

What BURP? I see no BURP. This is nice rockwork, Sir Gareth!

Thanks, SK! I am glad you like it. I will be incorporating the tree technique in future builds.

Book II - Mitgardia: Guild sign-up and Discussion
Slegengr replied to Ecclesiastes's topic in Guilds of Historica
I have three of the Kingdoms joust set, so, in turn, three of the above minifigures and 9? of the falcon shields. I may incorporate them as a group in the Falkidalr guard, but I currently have already modernized the Falki Ridders in similar fashion to my sigfig. I will have pictures up early next week. Thanks for the suggestion, Sir Gareth. @kevkipo Looking forward to those sketches! I did not realize you planned to do individual sketches for each of us! That sounds great and I appreciate the work you are going to for all of us. -
Book II Challenge III Dwarven Affairs
Slegengr replied to Ecclesiastes's topic in Guilds of Historica
From what I have seen, I agree with this. If it would be good in balancing out the sides, since so many Mitgardians have chosen the side of men, I am willing to switch to the dwarven side to swap for one of the MOC experts here on the dwarven side, but I would still prefer the side of men. I hope this makes sense and does not seem pretentious... -
AoM: Farm Phase I - Farmer Segir's Crops
Slegengr replied to Slegengr's topic in Guilds of Historica
Thanks, Brotherhood! The idea for the mushrooms was the beginning inspiration for this build. I am glad you like them. Thanks, Alfadas! I am glad you think the crops look real. Thanks, Zblj! The mushroom design was the beginning inspiration for this build. I am glad you like it. Thanks, Jorrith! Glad you like it. Thanks, Gideon! I thought of making a berry bush, then compared the size of the "cherries" to the minifigure hand and decided that it came out the equivalent of a medium tomato... Thanks, cablefoxley! I enjoy making irregular bases and am glad you like it. The mushrooms are my personal favorite crop in this build. -
Nice work, Legonardo! I agree that you have set the bar high! I particularly like the armored skirt over the legs. The only things I am not sure about are the base and the beard. The base looks plenty blocky. The beard also seems blocky and does not stand out like I would like to see it. Because of the shadows and stone color, I think the beard seems to blend in with the skirt and face detailing enough that without context, this might look somewhat like a rock with bumps. It just seems a little bit hard to distinguish the beard from the other parts. I really like this build and hope to see more from you, Legonardo, though you are building for the wrong side .

Shooting Straight - AoM: Storehouse Phase II
Slegengr replied to MKJoshA's topic in Guilds of Historica
Nice build, MKJ! I like the SNOT work, but I also would like to see Sir Gareth's suggestion to stick to one color per layer (mostly), as it looks splotchy right now, and most landscape like this would likely be layered. I also would suggest incorporating some slopes studs on top to break up the perfectly horizontal layers somewhat, though this is not easy and not necessary for a build of this size. The ground could use a little bit more detail as well. I like those pine trees and the storage shed looks nice. I also have plans to use the CMF baseplates for roofing. I thought of this long ago and have not yet had the chance to incorporate it. It is nice to see how good it looks. The minifigures look really nice and very Mitgardian! The helmets are from the Adventurers: Orient Expedition line, specifically from Ngan Pa, the Yeti hunter from set 7417 Temple on Mount Everest. -
Book II - Mitgardia: Guild sign-up and Discussion
Slegengr replied to Ecclesiastes's topic in Guilds of Historica
On a side note from the sketches, I took the advice I was given on my Barracks Phase I build and updated my sigfig to newer minifigure parts that I think look better, now that I have had the time to sort through my minifigure parts. Also, are we still looking for a mapmaker for Mitgardia? I might be interested in trying to update the map, now that I have photoshop. If there is interest, I would be willing to give this a try and see what you all think. I also have prepared a bit more of a bio about my character. -------------------------------------- Stian Vitr I am Stian Vitr, son of Frode of house Vitr (white). I am from the village Falkidalr in western Mitgardia. I am a Falki Ridder under the command of Erland Blar, Jarl and founder of Falkidalr. I ride everywhere on my horse, Solvi. Now that I have become a Falki Ridder, it is my task to make sure Falkidalr and the lands of Mitgardia are safe from danger and kept in peace. I hope to live up to the expectations of my father and older brother, Hammond. He has always been the hero, and has laid quite a difficult path for me to match up to. ------------------------------------- I hope to have more images up soon of both Stian and the Falki Ridders with the more modern piece updates. I would have had images tonight, but my camera batteries died before I could take more images, and I do not have replacement batteries yet. I also will have more AoM builds up next week, as well as my two larger projects (one not related to GoH, the other is) hopefully... -

Zounds! Horseless carriages in Avalonia... what is this world coming to? This is the start of a nice town, lightningtiger! I really like your anvil hardware store, though I have not commented on the other thread. I think the anvil sign is pretty neat. I do not build in the town theme, so I do not have any real tips for improvement, other than the grass strip under the gas price sign seems a little bare. Just do not let this show up as a free-build for GoH .

That is a nice army! You certainly have a lot of armored Uruk-Hai, as well as other dragon knights! I am awaiting the MOCs to go along with this army. Brick on, LegoFanfromPR!

Welcome to Eurobricks, LegoFanfromPR! That is a nice looking army, enough of an appetizer to make me want to see what other MOCs you build!

This is a nice little build, Grinsebar! I think the detailing is nice for the limited pieces you have. The only suggestions I have are towards photography and presentation. In the first photo, it looks odd to have some of the background removed up to the pieces, but most of the closest background left there. I recommend using a large enough background to completely cover everything behind the build, then skip editing out the background (unless you have photoshop skills enough to remove the entire background). If the corners in the background are casting shadows and becoming too noticeable, try using a curved backdrop from floor to wall behind the MOC. This helps in getting rid of the backdrop shadows. The second photo seems pretty good, but could use better lighting. The last photo seems to have shadows cast across the pieces. Try adjusting your lighting to avoid shadows on the build. I think this is a nice first build, and I am looking forward to seeing how you improve from here as you learn tips and tricks from other builders on Eurobricks and as you expand your available MOCing pieces. Brick on, Grinsebar!

Pretty sweet, kevkipo! Don't we all look so cute ? Of course, this is all cover to fool others into thinking we are weak, when really we are strong ! -

I am anxiously awaiting them, but I understand school business getting in the way! My LEGO hobby was diminished while I was in school as well. -
Would you like the Vikings theme to return?
Slegengr replied to Alfadas's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I also would love to see the Vikings return, but I would hope for more historically accurate helmets and more structures instead of siege weapons. The original line had some nice parts, but I do not like the huge horns on the helmets (that really are not historically accurate) and the Vikings never really used siege weapons. I am also not a huge fan of the beasts as enemies, but it is an excellent conflict idea to sell the sets to children, so we would likely see them again if Vikings do return. Mitgardians could see many more useful and updated minifigure parts, and I could only hope for the incorporation of green and yellow in the garb and buildings . -
AoM: Farm Phase I - Farmer Segir's Crops
Slegengr replied to Slegengr's topic in Guilds of Historica
Thanks, Garmadon! I am glad you like it! It is mostly built from the pieces from 5 Mirkwood Elf Army sets. Thanks, Venkefedo! Feel free to use the mushroom design. I would be glad to see it in other MOCs. To the question about Hobbits in Historica, I say of course there are Hobbits in Historica! Why not? I plan to incorporate them (yellow skinned, of course) in some of my builds. Thanks, mrcp6d! I tried to pack in a variety of crops. I also like to pay attention to the small details and live in the heart of corn country in the USA, not to mention having worked at a stand selling sweet corn for years... my experiences drove me to try to represent corn in as realistic a fashion as possible and have been planning this for quite some time. I am glad you like it! -
Welcome to Eurobricks, donnaliem! I am looking forward to seeing your MOCs.

AoM: Farm Phase I - Farmer Segir's Crops
Slegengr replied to Slegengr's topic in Guilds of Historica
Thanks, Sir Gareth! I am glad you noticed the LotR reference! I try to look beyond the basic use for a piece to utilize it in interesting ways. I wondered if you had seen butternut squash before. That is fine if you do not like the parts usage. I just did not want to use the standard unprinted minifigure heads in orange or green. My first attempt was to use green apples... needless to say, I was not happy. Thanks, lenjoyLego! I am glad you like the parts usage. My favorite is the mushrooms. The idea came when I saw the mushrooms in Witches of Warmorlor by Captain Flint. The technic bevel gear was used and I thought it would work well as the underside of a mushroom underneath LEGO's mushroom disc. Phase II will come eventually after all of Phase I is complete. Thanks Scaevola! I tried to incorporate a variety of flora to make it more interesting. Thanks, Hammerhand! I am glad you like my favorite parts of the build. Thanks, Carson! I am glad you like it! Thanks, Kai! I am glad you like the irregular base. Thanks, Lord Vladivus! I am glad you like the build with its irregular base. Thanks, mccoyed! What a compliment! I do like the crops I made, but others have done excellent farm builds as well. I am glad you think mine is a good example! -

Great Mitgardian throne room, SK! The bear paw mosaic looks nice. I think the banners and axes work well over the chair. I also agree that the lack of ridiculous decorations makes it fit Mitgardia well. Keep things plain and practical, I say. The tile SNOT columns are very nice. My favorite detail is the hinge bricks in the top corner of the wall. They add a great greebling effect. I really cannot see anything I would improve on (other than the empty studs on the table that were mentioned by others). This is a detailed yet simple and clean build. Brick on, SK!
