Welcome to Eurobricks, Prince of Gonville! It is absolutely OK to link your Flickr page here (in fact highly recommended, from my experience), as Eurobricks is not an image-hosting site. You have some very nice builds. I particularly like the roses. I am looking forward to seeing more of your builds.

I do not think a 3x3 round corner exists. If you are trying to fill space with round bricks, you could try this piece: Of course, this will not help if you want different colors for the concentric rings.

This is a great topic to resurrect, IMO. I grew up in the 90's, so I also have many fond memories of spending hours looking at the catalogs of all sizes, especially the dioramas. I still have catalogs from when I was young, and I collect the catalogs for the nostalgia. I lost the "you nostalgia, you lose" challenge the instant I saw the first image, even though I was expecting it . Quick question, though: If the scans added are for themes other than Pirates, should a different topic be created in the general LEGO discussion forum? That way, everyone can have nostalgia about their favorite themes. Maybe the scans people intend to upload will be only Pirate related, though, which would mean this topic is great. Now I am thinking about creating a topic like this for the Castle line (or resurrecting an existing topic) .

See GoH_Banner_11. The shield is not exactly in the middle of each group, but I located it where it had good contrast to the background rather than blending in. This is probably my favorite banner, but I also like banner 9. Thanks, Robuko! I think banner 11 is my favorite as well.

Welcome to Eurobricks, ckobear! I have heard that quote before, and I think that it makes sense. I hope you enjoy the forums. Play Well!

Thanks for the feedback, MKJ! This is a hard decision for me, as I think the flags are pretty good, yet the shields are more concise and better presented as an addition to the banner. I am still somewhat leaning towards the shields, as they represent the guild colors in a concise and fitting manner, though I do not want the banner to seem linked only to the first book. I know what you mean about the Avalonian archer. I spent some time trying to find a way to incorporate hair and the forestman hat. Maybe a hood would work for her as well? I will try a few ideas and see if I can fix this. I will add numbers to the first post . That should help prevent confusion with the number of banners presented. I am glad others are willing to provide so much feedback and make this a community-made banner for the community. Edit: Numbers have been added and I have updated the banner Forestwoman to have hair. Of course, this is actually brick-built and not edited, as I try to be as purist as possible. I used SNOT bricks and plates to hold two of this piece in reddish brown up behind her head to wrap around and come up under the brim of the hat. I hope you like it, as I burnt some midnight oil to make this update. I think it is much better than the bald lady.

Very nice, MKJ! I like that rockwork. It is very interesting with the slopes and plates/tiles. The water wheel is nice, and I like the mechanism with the gears to make this sawmill. Great continuation of your story! For some constructive criticism: I like the water effect, but the waterfall does not match the running water very well, IMO. Is there some way to incorporate similar techniques for both river and water fall, or is there some way to transition between the two more gradually (possibly incorporate a few round transparent plates on the vertical portion as well)? The banks of the river might look better with a few wedge plates to break up the perfectly straight edges. I am glad to see other Mitgardians completing the AoM builds, and this is a great addition to Mitgardia. Brick on, MKJ!

Thanks, Garmadon! I tried your idea in a prototype banner, but I am liking the other minimalist versions better. I appreciate the input. I have posted more prototypes incorporating the guild shields. Let me know what you think. I am sorry if there are a lot of images to scroll through, but I wanted to show the different possibilities. On Friday, I will make the final decision which two will be entered. Thanks for looking and for giving feedback!

I agree with Scala and Galidor being poor LEGO themes. Though I personally am not into the Friends theme, I think it is an excellent theme to appeal to girls. I also like the new parts and colors used in the theme that can be used well beyond just for Friends sets.
-
I like that. I do think it visually more coherent having a shield on both sides of each Guild's region. I will have a few more prototypes up tonight to incorporate more ideas. Since I have this separate topic, I will make several more banners and place them here for input before the deadline Friday.
-
I don't know either if this would be permitted, but I also would rather incorporate the whole shield in the banner next to the appropriate guild. I will redo the shields tonight after work and hopefully correct the issues by shrinking the shields and placing them along the bottom with each group of minifigures. I appreciate your input, as well as the input from others. If this should ever end up being the Guilds' banner, it will be best if the Guild members have had input so it is a community project (more or less).

Farmer Maggot's Work Horse - AoM: Mill Phase I
Slegengr replied to Slegengr's topic in Guilds of Historica
Thanks, ME! I am honored that another excellent MOCer is glad to have me here. I hope to learn more and continuously improve my building techniques, and this is made simpler by finding inspiration from the MOC experts here (including you). -
Thanks, Milo! I had not thought of using the shield tags. That is a most excellent idea! Much neater to incorporate than the flags. Thanks for the input, Kai. That is my opinion as well.

Farmer Maggot's Work Horse - AoM: Mill Phase I
Slegengr replied to Slegengr's topic in Guilds of Historica
Thanks, Jakorin! I am glad you like it. Thanks, cesbrick! I am honored that you are glad I joined GoH, as you are an excellent MOCer. Thanks, Gideon! I am glad you like it. The cart was a quick throw-together to avoid using the only other cart I had built: MMV's cart. I do not like to use components build from instructions in MOCs, so I quickly threw this cart together without much design thought. I can see now that I should have at least included a second gold 4x4 round plate between the first and the dark bley collar with studs pointing out. It was late when I finished the mill, but I should have taken more time to finish the cart as well, as all details are important. I will probably be posting some update pictures for this build, as a few more parts arrived that I wanted to include and I would like to incorporate the feedback received. -
Welcome to Eurobricks, sunbeam! I am looking forward to your community contributions.

This is not LEGO related at all, just something I find interesting. I thought I would share with this community, since it is October, which is ocarina awareness month: a month where people interested in ocarinas share their interest with others. The ocarina is not a commonly known instrument, though that is gradually changing. Most people I have met that know what an ocarina is usually believe it originated from the Nintendo game "Legend of Zelda", but it is actually an instrument that, in some form, is as old as ancient civilizations. Three years ago, I was introduced to the ocarina as a real instrument. I had heard it as a sound effect on an electronic keyboard, but had never known what the actual instrument was like. I started out by buying a cheap one that ended up being pretty decent quality for the price. While learning to play, I found a video on how to make ocarinas. They are simply glazed clay chambers. My first one made sound, which was enough encouragement to continue on. I ended up getting my own kiln and making a small hobby business out of ocarina making by selling them at a local farmer's market. This hobby, much unlike my LEGO hobby, has provided more return than I have invested (not counting my time playing and practicing the ocarina, which I do because I enjoy). Here is what my ocarina (an alto C transverse) looks like: It is played by covering and opening the holes with your fingers and thumbs while blowing down the neck or "fipple". For more information, check out the Wikipedia article on ocarinas, which is quite accurate. Since I have never recorded my playing sessions, I cannot show you myself what it sounds like, but I can point anyone interested in the direction of the ocarina player that I learned a lot from (due to tutorial videos) and was inspired by his expertise: David Erick Ramos or docjazz4 on youtube. I have truly come to enjoy playing the ocarina, and, due to its simplicity, I highly recommend it for anyone interested in music. The basics are simple, but practice can lead to some amazing music from this little clay chamber.

I updated the original post to include a less-crowded version. Help me decide which two are the best to include as entries on the entry page. I will update my posts there with my preferences, but I am willing to accept input.

Nice display for the CMF Hun warriors, Petric_G! I like that you made the sand mound and posed the figures instead of just lining them up on a plain baseplate. I also like that you personalized the Huns instead of only including the default CMF Hun. That poor walking Hun! He is sure to be left behind if the riders are in a hurry to cross the steppes .

I think this is correct. Although the other one might be more accurate, it is way too large for LEGO to even consider it. If the other sets did not sell well enough to justify a third wave, how could the LEGO company be expected to turn a profit on a $500 set that is mostly white pieces? Nuju Metru has targeted the LEGO set factors much more accurately. Though AFOLs may not like the "play-based child appeal" of the set and the slightly more limited details to keep the piece count down, LEGO will certainly make the set to appeal to their target demographics: children (if they even make a large set from a licensed theme through Ideas at all). Though I would like to see more LotR sets, it is the decision of the LEGO company to continue the line or to discontinue it. I personally am just glad we got LotR at all, and, although some key characters are still missing, know that I can continue to make customs (generally purist) to fulfill my needs. I did, after all, create a Fellowship that I was satisfied with well before LEGO actually made the LotR line at all.

Welcome to Eurobricks, DD840! Be careful with LEGO, as it can quickly become a collection addiction ! I am looking forward to seeing what you build. Do you keep the sets together and collect sets or do you build your own MOCs?

Thanks, SarahJoy! I appreciate that you put together a prototype banner for me. I really like what I see there. The minifigures are still detailed in your image, and it is definitely less crowded. I will give this another attempt tonight and continue to play with this to try to perfect the banner. I originally intended to put the flags on the bottom, but did not have enough room. With the smaller figs, there might be room, though, so I will try it and find out. In this thread, I will post prototype banners before finalizing the banners for entry. Would it seem better to keep the figures for each guild clustered tightly or to spread them out somewhat in the extra space around the figures? You kept them clustered as I did, and I think I am leaning towards this as well. The lady figs were an added consideration to give each guild a more complete representation, as there are ladies in the guilds and there would certainly need to be ladies in the worlds of Guilds of Historica .

Book II Chapter III: Dwarven Statues
Slegengr replied to MiloNelsiano's topic in Guilds of Historica
Nice work on the hand, Milo! I like how you essentially combined both the dwarven side and the side of men in this build by building a statue for the dwarves, then having your ranger spying on them to listen in on their intents. The hand looks nice, but I would like to see a little bit more greebling inside the hand and around it. Keep up the good work, Milo! -
Welcome to Eurobricks, floed! Those are some nice builds and pictures in your Flickr gallery. I am looking forward to seeing more MOCs and dioramas.

Book II - Kaliphlin: Guild sign-up and Discussion
Slegengr replied to SkaForHire's topic in Guilds of Historica
As Stian passes through Kaliphlin in his travels... Thanks, Gideon! This is what I am trying to construct after I received feedback from you on one of my builds. This definitely makes a nice backdrop if even lighting is used. ...Back to the North I head!
