[MOC] My past MOC's
Slegengr replied to Ciapasty's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Nice MOCs, Ciapasty! I do not build much Technic myself, but I still appreciate the nice looks and mechanized details of good MOCs, and yours are no exception. They are great, especially the incorporation of realistic mechanics. Brick on, Ciapasty! -
Welcome, Ciapasty! I am looking forward to your MOCs.

Thanks, Carson! I really enjoyed making builds and minifigures to represent the guilds, and I am glad you like it as well.

Book II - Mitgardia: Guild sign-up and Discussion
Slegengr replied to Ecclesiastes's topic in Guilds of Historica
@kabel: Oh, I should have realized what you meant. Isn't Iceland called the "Land of Fire and Ice"? I have also heard that Iceland is green and Greenland is ice . Enjoy your vacation and come back with lots of Mitgardian build ideas. -
The source image I used is the one at the start of this thread. It was pixely to begin with, but I may try to adjust that using color gradients. Thanks for the feedback!

Welcome to Eurobricks, matterich! I am looking forward to seeing your MOCs, both with physical parts and LDD.

Book II - Mitgardia: Guild sign-up and Discussion
Slegengr replied to Ecclesiastes's topic in Guilds of Historica
@kabel: Are we not talking enough here? Hopefully it is because everyone is busy building for Challenge III and for AoM or other Mitgardian freebuilds. I have posted an entry for the GoH Banner Design Contest. Next week I hope to have the AoM: Storehouse Phase I done and a good start on my Challenge III builds. -
Here is my entry for the GoH Banner Design: See my later post to view the updated banners for entries Too many details would be lost when I tried to incorporate the Eurobricks name and slogan, as well as anything pertaining to GoH sigils or symbols. If I should add them, let me know before the deadline so that I can try to incorporate them. I have also created a topic containing the source images used: GoH Banner Design Source images are also all on my Flickr stream which is linked to through the images and in my signature, if anyone is interested in viewing them. Edit: Updated post to make this one a prototype. Final banners are in my later post incorporating a less-crowded composition of minifigures. Thanks for looking!

Here is my entry for the GoH banner design contest. If I should only post this under the entry topic, would a Mod please delete this topic. I created a separate topic to also include the source images I used for my banner. I know these banners are not in numerical order. I tried to group similar banners together. GoH_Banner_1 I thought the original might look better with the guild flags as well, so I tried that also: GoH_Banner_3 This is the second attempt which incorporates the guild flags and smaller minifigures to alleviate the crowded feeling: GoH_Banner_4 Second attempt without guild flags: GoH_Banner_6 Attempting an even less crowded spacing: GoH_Banner_5 And with Guild's tag shields (with modified colors): GoH_Banner_9 GoH_Banner_8 GoH_Banner_11 GoH_Banner_12 GoH_Banner_7 GoH_Banner_10 Source Images Avalonian Knight: Avalonian Forestwoman: Avalonian Elf: Mitgardian Ridder: Mitgardian Archer: Mitgardian Dwarf: Nocturnus Death Knight: Nocturnus Ninja: Nocturnus Orc: Kaliphlin Mamaluke: Kaliphlin Legionary: Kaliphlin Archer: Avalonia Background: Mitgardia Background: Nocturnus Background: Kaliphlin Background: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Constructive criticism is appreciated. If you have suggestions for improvement to this banner, please let me know before Friday, October 31st, and I might be able to incorporate them. I tried to make each region representative of the defining features of each guild. The same applies to the minifigures, where I included one mounted character, one footman, and one female figure for each guild. Edit: Updated main banner to correct the pixelated appearance of the logo Second Edit: Added a second populated banner with downsized figures and incorporated guild flags Third Edit: Added more populated banners with less crowding and reorganized banners into a coherent order.

AoM Mill Phase 2: Down by the (Icky) River
Slegengr replied to Tomsche's topic in Guilds of Historica
Nice build, Tomsche! That water wheel is very nice and I also like the churning water underneath. Nice Nocturnus influence! I agree that the roof could use more tiles. Was there a reason behind using green on the roof? I think it might look better using black or brown for wood shakes or else yellow or tan for thatching. Brick on, Tomsche! -
Farmer Maggot's Work Horse - AoM: Mill Phase I
Slegengr replied to Slegengr's topic in Guilds of Historica
Thanks, Tomsche! Yes, they are Elrond chairs . I have bought 6 copies of the set when I found great deals on them (25-50% off). I also bought the additional parts and stickers off Bricklink to make up the other half of the pieces. Thanks, robuko! I appreciate the compliments. Thanks, Hobbythom! I tried to keep it true to the AoE mill and Norse style. Thanks, lenjoyLego! The inspiration for this build came from the log-walled, stick-roofed mill in AoE 2, so the roof is also my favorite part. The cart was a quick throw-together to avoid using the one from the MMV that I had build already. Phase II is yet to come, though I plan to dedicate time now to Challenge III. Thanks, Alfadas! I love mills, so I will quite enjoy this category for all phases, including phase II and III. Thanks, Gabe! I appreciate the compliments and constructive criticism. Amazon in my area had the CoE set for 33% off for a while, so I picked up 5 copies, along with a cheap one from a Bricklink seller and individual chair pieces and stickers from Bricklink (about half of the total). The hump in the thatching was somewhat intentional for the end-view effect, but I can see your point. I actually wanted the roof to appear somewhat messy, as it was based on the dark age mill from AoE 2. I already have a method of attachment that avoids the bump, so I may try it again and see how it looks. Thanks, Kai NRG! I appreciate the compliments and constructive criticism. I personally liked the colors, but I can understand your point. I could have used less tan and only used it for accents rather than the top portion of the main wall as well. I will consider this in the future. Thanks, Vladivus! The roof is my favorite part as well. -
I also love this build, LD! The idea of a stone tower on a gnarled old hollow tree is really a neat idea. I like how both the tree and the tower are done, but I would like to see more of a gradual transition between the two, similar to the transition from ground to tree. The angles on the tree, tower walls, and tower roof add quite a lot to the complexity and realistic effect of this build. Brick on, LD!

This is great, Disco! It is build just like a real LEGO set should be. There is a nice balance of play features and moderately complex structure. Of course part of the reason I really like this set is that it incorporates two minifigure types that are sorely missed: rangers and Gondor soldiers. I would love to see this as a real set. I also think it should be posted to LEGO ideas just in case we might yet get a set of this quality with the missing figures. Brick on, Disco!

Great statue, vitreolum! Nice parts usage throughout and excellent posing. The platform and foliage add a nice effect. The complexity of this is much greater than I think I could manage. The only part I would like different is the blockiness of the boots and arms, though I do not have a suggestion for improvement, as I have not tried a complex statue before. Brick on, vitreolum!

EU citizens to buy in US
Slegengr replied to Itaria No Shintaku's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
I cannot say for sure, but I am pretty sure there is not another option. It is illegal to mark a sale as a "gift" to avoid customs, as you said. Here in America, we pay tax on the money we earn, tax on the money we spend, tax to keep the items we purchased, tax if we sell the item to someone else, and even tax on inheritance as we pass on our possessions to others. This means that trade goods are taxed multiple times, regardless of who has payed tax before. Freedom is not truly free, but I will not complain because of the standard of living made possible by this. -
Farmer Maggot's Work Horse - AoM: Mill Phase I
Slegengr replied to Slegengr's topic in Guilds of Historica
Thanks, MKJ! I appreciate your compliment. Thanks, Sir Gareth! I have been using AoM to try the basis for my style in different manners, both for landscapes and for man-made objects. I am glad you like this MOC and I appreciate your compliments. With about 20 years of LEGO building experience (no dark age for me, building since age 3 ), I hope to continue to improve my builds and contribute to the community. Thanks, Garmadon! I am glad you like the details and appreciate your compliments. Phase II is in my plans, though I plan to complete all phase I builds in sequence before sequencing through phase II. Of course, the guild colors will be included in my builds as often as I find a fitting manner to incorporate them. -
This is an excellent representation of that moment in the tale, Emma! Smaug is amazingly detailed, especially his head. The posing is perfect for Smaug and Bilbo. For only having 16x16 for the base, this is certainly well utilized here in depicting the mountain stone and the piles of treasure. Brick on, Emma!

Age of Mitgardia (free-build-challenge)

Farmer Maggot's Work Horse - AoM: Mill Phase I -
Farmer Maggot puts his horse to work. After the farmers cut the wheat and lay it in the wagon, the horse pulls the wagon to the mill. Here, Farmer Maggot threshes the wheat on the ground with his flail as his wife, Mme. Maggot, brings new wheat to thresh. Jaskin pours the wheat kernels onto the grind-stone and leads the horse around the grind-stone to roll the top stone over the wheat kernels to grind them into flour that will then be taken to the village bakery and used to make all sorts of delectable items to feed the people of Falkidalr. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- C&C welcome. Inspiration came from the Dark Age mill in Age of Empires 2 (with added Norse influence). My favorite parts of this build, and the most tedious, are the two sections of the roof. The LotR seats from the Council of Elrond make nice roof shakes, though they were somewhat tedious to attach. The stick portion proved even more tedious, as they cannot be all rigidly attached, since I wanted a tightly packed thatching of sticks.

This is quite the idea! There is a lot packed into such a small build. Frodo has definitely had a bit too much...

Book II - Mitgardia: Guild sign-up and Discussion
Slegengr replied to Ecclesiastes's topic in Guilds of Historica
I figured that was the case. It was just curious wording... @kevkipo: I agree that whole body sketches, especially colored, would be nice, but I understand how much of a project that will become. My AoM: Mill Phase I is posted. -
That is one nice caravel, kabel! I particularly like the sails and rigging, even though they are non-LEGO, as well as the stripe of red and tan down the side and the black tiling on the side. The bear paw sigil looks nice on the sail. The only thing that I wish could be different is the hinge gapping on the front. I wish there was a way to effectively hide this gap with LEGO pieces, both for this build and the many other uses of hinges to make round objects. I have not yet seen a good solution to this issue as old as the LEGO hinge itself... Brick on, kabel!

Slegengr replied to Ecclesiastes's topic in Guilds of Historica
That is neat! By tomorrow on, do you mean you have moved there? Nothing makes the builds more fitting than having reality to base them on. -
Nice build, Vitreolum! I particularly like the tree, both the trunk and the leaves on top. The water is nice with the angled barrels. The border adds a nice effect to the whole build. Brick on, Vitreolum!

Welcome to Eurobricks, CPDano! I hope you find useful information to aid your build here. I am looking forward to seeing your fire house WIP or completed.
