Excellent build, as usual! I love the simple effect of land with layered plates and the incorporation of the underwater portion. Is the boatman's punting pole a broken lance?

I also love the hoardings on top of the tower as well as the rock-work and landscaping, as well as using the neat idea of building phase II on the same base as phase I.

These are neat little builds. I do like how the landscaping looks, but I agree with mccoyed that the loose piece groupings do not look as nice as the other excellent builds you have done.

Thanks for the feedback. I plan to fix this build up and retake pictures now that I have white poster-board for background, controlled individual lighting, and (hopefully) photo editing software. I will be incorporating tips given in feedback and will also take some closer detail pictures.

Thanks, I really enjoy doing LEGO landscapes. I absolutely love the olive green foliage pieces along with the other color variants. I hope LEGO continues to expand the color variation. Thanks, all. The rock was definitely where I spent the most time. I really enjoy building landscapes. Thanks. I noticed that I left that corner of the plate empty after I took pictures. I will likely change this and cover the edges with more vegetation. Do you have tips on how to avoid the tonal balance? Is it the shadows in the build due to poor lighting or the choice of dark green and dark bley for the background and black and dark gray for the minifigures? Should I change my angle so more of the empty background is behind the minifigures rather than the dark-colored build?

***Please see updated build and photos*** Erland Blar was born and raised in Avalonia. His father, Erling Blar, was a highly regarded noble, lord over lands that bordered Mitgardia. Seeking to aid his son in winning glory, Erling provided the best trainers available to teach Erland the art of the sword from a young age. When Erland’s father died, though, his younger brother Fiske, backed by his friends, took over the household and became lord of the lands. Erland saw little value in disputing his brother’s claim, as he did not desire the life of a nobleman. Instead, he crossed the border into Mitgardia to seek out his fortune with his sword skills. Through his skill and might, Erland soon became a highly esteemed warrior and chief of a new clan. He began building a village in a valley between a mountain off the coast and a forested hill. Erland named the village Falkidalr (or Falcon Valley) and made the falcon the representative symbol to commemorate an incident where a falcon aided Erland in his trials. In commemoration of his namesake, the banner color for his province was blue for House Blar (blue). One incident during his younger roaming days in Mitgardia played a key role in Erland’s established power. As he was travelling to find the perfect location to begin his settlement after acquiring some followers, he encountered a lone man dressed entirely in black. This man would not allow Erland to pass and challenged him to a test of sword skills. The two sparred for quite some time, neither one able to gain the advantage over the other. In the heat of the test, the man in black suddenly stumbled on a stone and dropped his sword as Erland forced him back against a boulder. Instantly, several other men in black appeared and fended off Erland. The first man rose from the ground and introduced himself as Fell of House Blakkr. He had never before been matched with an equal in the art of the sword since his childhood training days. This became the start of a lasting strong alliance, the alliance between houses Blar and Blakkr. As a child, I was almost 100% MOCer. During high school and college, I went to almost 100% stocker due to space limitations (less space to store disassembled sets, less space needed to build when all parts are available from one bag or box). After joining Eurobricks, I have this huge impulse to sort most of my sets together to make MOCs. I would say I like to be: 30% Stock 70% MOC 0% MOD I have yet to find a set that I want to MOD without going to the extent of making it a MOC. I generally either like the stock set or I completely rebuild into a MOC.

I am certainly thankful for people who do what you do. I work on the R&D side of engineering and would never see my design become reality without people like you.

I am not usually a big fan of Bionicle/Hero Factory builds, but this actually looks quite good, robuko! I think the front legs look a little bit too mech-like, but that is probably from the fact that this was built over the exo-suit skeleton, which just makes this more amazing!

Excellent details, Captain Flint! I love the varying textures in the roof, walls, and terrain! Those technic bevel gear mushrooms are neat! This has given me an idea with this piece. I wonder what they were cooking to create such yellow smoke .

***See updated Sigfig and Bio on Page 75 of the Book II: Mitgardia Guild sign up and discussion*** Fellow Mitgardians, please allow me to introduce myself: I am Stian Vitr, ridder in the ranks of Erland Blar's Falki Ridders. Builds and more character information will follow. Please note that I plan on using blue as the provincial banner color for my own village (hence "Blar": blue in Norse). Erland Blar is Jarl with his house color being blue, but a Jarl is only a lord, so Blar is still under rule of a Mitgardian king (green and yellow). This results in banners with either a green or yellow flag (or both) on top with a house-colored flag below. Black Falcons will be my town guard, though other minifigures will more directly fit Norse references. Feedback on this idea is appreciated. Hopefully my next photo-shoot will be of better quality, though I still am using a fairly basic digital camera. With only artificial incandescent lighting at the moment, I have had some trouble with the proper shooting setup.

Sorry, I thought I commented on this earlier. I really like this build. It has a nice amount of detail without overdoing it. I think the incorporation of the main building and the small huts and common people is very interesting and adds to the build. I also really like the roofing structures. The sparser pieces across the black roof give a nice texture. I am also personally fond of the cheese-slope roof style, especially in the incorporation of multiple fitting colors.

Welcome to Eurobricks, pixie. That mosaic reminds me of Neytiri from the movie Avatar. Not enough of the face is shown for me to be sure... I am looking forward to seeing more builds.

This is astoundingly realistic, Migalart! I thought the first image, at first glance, was a slightly pixelated source image. Then I looked again... The lava technique is perfect! It looks very realistic with the variations of color to show hotter and cooler parts. The colors for lava, rock, and structure are all spot on! The attention to detail on the structure extensions is great. The added effect of the blue heat-shielding makes the images really stand out. The only way I could like this better is if it was minifigure-scale (pieces required times 10, build time times 10...), but that would be ridiculous! Nice work!

That is interesting. I had a fascination with robotic mini-harvesters in college. I do not think you would want to eat most of the products from our conveyors unless it was processed first. That sounds interesting. Out of curiosity, what does your job duty actually entail?

I think that is pretty sleek SNOT work, myself. This is a neat little ship. Do you have plans to physically build this, or will this remain a LEGO Digital Designer model?

These are perfect! Both ships are as accurate as they come at that scale, and both bases are instantly recognizable and fitting for the ships. The Y-wing detailing is much better than the one TLG produced. I might be a bit partial as the T-47 (Snowspeeder) is one of my all-time favorite spaceships, but I think the T-47 is absolutely marvelous! Excellent work!

Thanks for the responses, kabel and mccoyed (strong Mitgardian representation!). I have continued to think about it, and have decided a few things. For Nocturnus, my only interest is really in the minifigs I built, so I will use them elsewhere. I think Mitgardia may be my choice after considering what I would like to build. I really like forests but also like the northern mountains, snow, and ice. Both would be found in Mitgardia, where Avalonia would seem less fitting for mountains and snow. I think the color incorporation works better for me as well, as I may use Black Knights as my army base (red and blue for provincial colors, green and yellow for guild colors). I think this color scheme works better for me than trying to incorporate dark green and sand green. (There are no dragon plumes in those colors, where there are yellow and 3rd party green). I will spend some time tinkering with my minifigs and basic building styles before I make my decision. I also do not want to join a guild before I have sigfig and army/build images to back it up. I feel a little bit like this decision is as difficult for me as buying a new car, but I have an extensive enough LEGO collection to feel fine with being in any of the guilds. I will probably decide by this weekend. Again, thanks for input. Slegengr
