I am not sure I see the difference between designing with LDD or with parts. With LDD I miss the tactile experience of handling pieces and if something doesn't work out in LDD you tear it apart (electronically) and re-assemble with pieces you tear apart and re-assemble. I also learn more with physical pieces compared to LDD as I can more easily examine how pieces fit together. The one advantage to LDD (I see) is if you do not have all the parts you need, or if you would like to use some special part (you also don't have) or if you want yo use a specific color (again, parts you do not have). If it is just color you are lacking, you can always assemble with any color, find out how many of what you need, order and re-assemble with the proper color. As for assembling sets to learn, this is my primary learning process, then only if I really, really, really like the set will I leave it assembled for a couple of months. If I need the parts sooner, well, I disassemble. LEGO sets are just supplies to me, even my MOCs don't stay assembled too long, but I usually assemble each new set once, only if I buy multiples will a set go from box to parts without being assembled, but I would rather assemble the B model from a fresh set. I'm still a novice with LEGO and especially Technic, but this is my process. Merry Christmas, Andy D

I build at a slow (and steady?) pace. I try to examine each sub-assembly to try to learn techniques for MOCs. Building is what I enjoy about LEGO, in fact, when a set to MOC is complete I am somewhat let down as it is done. I get a "now what feeling". I prefer sets in the 1000 to 1500 piece range, but a larger set in the 2000 to 3000 pieces occasionally. The build is the thing! Merry Christmas, Andy D

Very nice indeed! Lots of interesting and (advanced) building techniques. Looks like The Doctor and a companion in the pub! Or, who is that? Good luck in the contest. Merry Chritmas, Andy D

# 42009 Extended Boom Kit Parts for sale
Andy D replied to ritztoys's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
Roger, You have to request the badge and a good moderator will give you one... Say something like "I'm 81 and I would like an "Old Timer's" badge" Sooner or later someone will add the badge to your profile. Mery Christmas, Andy D -
# 42009 Extended Boom Kit Parts for sale
Andy D replied to ritztoys's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
Hi Roger, Since you can't PM yet I thought I would get a message to you here. You are the first member who has admitted to being older than me! If you want to be identified as one of our "Old Timers" members, go to http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=89346&hl=timers&st=0 And request your "Old Timer's" badge. I am looking forward to seeing you around the forums! To the OP-- To sort of be on topic, I also have the 42009 and I am looking forward to building it. What is included in the extended boom kit? Merry Christmas, Andy D -
Very interesting micro scale build. I like the way it one has to really study it to inure out what you did. But even if you do not study, it is a great build! Merry Christmas, Andy D

Very nice, lots of cool details!i like the clear silicon hoses. Do you have to use LEGO hoses for the contest? I think the clear adds interest. Merry Christmas, Andy D

Just a little vignette I felt a need to do. My wife has a Christmas decoration that has the three Wise Men in a circle, back to back, under the Star, searching and cannot decide which way to go. Her decoration is also a rotating music box. Every morning while we have coffee I look at that and think... I want to make that in LEGO! So I found The Three Wise Men on eBay and produced this. The first photo shows the front (where they are going at this time). Since the gifts were said to be gold, frankincense and myrrh and gold is listed first, I decided that the one carrying the gold would be the in the lead (strictly my own decision, I hope it does not offend anyone, as no offense is intended). Anyway, here is the front of the Magi Wise Men 1? by MyPlasticBricks, on Flickr And here is the back. Wise Men 2? by MyPlasticBricks, on Flickr They are on a turntable so they can rotate (like the music box they were inspired by) and they take the same little patch of desert where ever they go until the end of their journey. BTW: I don't normally name pieces, but I couldn't resist naming this piece... "Searching for Jesus" I hope you enjoy. Merry Christmas, Andy D

With Christmas just around the corner... My unbuilt set backlog is not going to get any better. I have come to the conclusion that with my backlog, new releases and no additional time or display space... Well, I will just have to live with a backlog. Andy D

Very nice. Looks like it should fit right into the Winter Village. The only thing is... I would rather have a nice warm hot chocolate instead of cider ;) ;) Andy D

Yesterday my wife had a social for a group of retirees from where she used to work. There were about 40 people from 65 to 85 years old. Many of them ventured into my LEGO Studio to see my Christmas decorations and LEGO sets and creations. It amazed me how many people said "is that LEGO?" What are people expecting? My only conclusion is that they are thinking of LEGO as brightly colored bricks of the LEGO Juniors size or maybe Duplo. It never ceases to amaze me that many people not associated with the hobby do not understand how things like WV sets or Modulars or Technic constructions are made from LEGO. I'm fairly certain the only LEGO they may have seen are what they may have given their children 20 years ago or maybe their grandchildren. I wonder if any of them will explore the hobby during their retirement? Something I always say is "I look at LEGO bricks as the ultimate, reusable art medium". Has your collection ever inspired someone to take up the hobby? Merry Christmas, Andy D

Post your general LEGO Star Wars questions here
Andy D replied to XimenaPaulina's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Apparently Toys 'R Us and Walmart in the USA still have it, prices not bad on eBay, but I would not wait for May the 4th. I really don't know if you've been screwed or not... Was that the question? Andy D -
[MOC] EV3 Cookie Icing Machine
Andy D replied to touthomme's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Very nice, however $350 for a cookie icing machine seems a bit excessive ;) Your infomercial was great, like many infomercials, over-acting, but true to the art of infomercials. You need to talk to Anthony Sullivan, I'm sure he has a place for you. Merry Christmas, Andy D -
Custom Parts by SevenStuds
Andy D replied to SevenStuds's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Wow, it looks like a few GoPro pieces were sold, and it looks like the price went up on the GoPro piece since I checked earlier. It must be a popular item, I seem to remember the price as 13 and something Euro, now it's 14.80 Euro. Andy D -
Custom Parts by SevenStuds
Andy D replied to SevenStuds's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I am really impressed by the GoPro adapter! Could come handy. I am sure there are lots of little bits that are not produced in LEGO, that could be very handy, so this kind of access sounds really great. But then again, completing something within the limitations of the parts available can sometimes be a fun, learning challenge. Not sure about the shipping from France to the USA. Andy D -
Inconsistency with Power Functions order accuracy
Andy D replied to ProducePrincess's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I have not had difficulties with PF orders. I ordered a few PF items during October for the double VIP and the order was accurate and timely. The order was only PF, and the even shipped the Christmas Train too as the order was over $99. Andy D
