No, behaviors can TOTALLY be faked. That's the practically the entire JOB of the scum, to be fake town. So yep, investigations and stuff can be messed with. So they're not 100% reliable. But actions can be fake too - I've gotten burned more than once trusting someone based on their behavior. And behavior can be messed with to some extent too - start accusing people and you can make them react. Pressure is a good way to test out someone's behavior, but you can also get misled if they crack.

First, glad to know you're not the only one with the info. That protects us all so we can make better decisions once this plays out. It also reduces (in my mind) the likelyhood that there's a scum giving you bad info, since the more widespread they make it, the higher the odds of someone disproving it. And I agree that a frame on night one getting lucky is unlikely. And the more I think about it, I'm less inclined to think it's a scum ploy, since a lying claim to you would not necessarily be very effective (not like you can lynch Paris alone, so it'd rely on you influencing everyone) AND it's hugely risky. I'm probably going to vote Paris today, since by occam's razor, she's probably scum. I'd think the night kill was scum, not a vig, for the same reason. The odds of the scum getting blocked are low, and a vig taking night 1 off is common. We can't know for sure yet, but that's certainly the most likely explanation. I doubt we're vig-less (if we are, can we take vig-ra or something to help with that?) I'm very curious to see tonight if the dead have an inner identity revealed... since only one did last night I'm inclined to think it might mean something, but who knows...

All you saying that either paris is scum or there's a framer are missing one obvious alternative - Alicia is scum and making the whole thing up. That'd be hugely gusty to gamble that a real role cop doesn't counterclaim, but it would be an easier explanation than thinking there's a framer who happened to target the same person that the real role cop did, and then the rolecop shared bad info with Alicia. I do seem to remember exactly that happening with alicia in a previous life, and we went down this same road - lynched the framed person, suspected Alicia's ancestor for a long time after the person turned out town, etc. So either an insane pile of coincidences has occurred, or Alicia is taking a historical event and trying to replicate it. Or one other option - the scum gambled that there's no role cop and had a fake one claim to Alicia to get a lie out there. In that case both Paris and Alicia could be town, and whoever claimed to Alicia is the scum. I sorta suspect this option actually - maybe some scum said something to Alicia in private, trying to stir up suspicions against a vocal townie (not that I'm assuming here that Paris is town, I certainly do NOT know her his whatever's allegiance, just tossing out my thoughts). In that case, they probably didn't expect Alicia to come out publicly with it. I'll just say, Alicia, before the end of the day you probably outta share that source's identity with someone, since if it was a lie and we lynch Paris, the scum would probably want to off you in the night to hide their identity. I'm NOT asking you to share now, but you shoudl share with SOMEONE before the end of the day incase you're not here tomorrow. Sadly, the only real way to know is the lynch,, so I highly suspect Paris will be gone today.

I actually got the same message twice, about 10 minutes apart. The first was a few minutes before you others (1:31 am) and the last after (1:42). So I guess Lawrence was sending messages and forgot who all he sent to :) He said he felt like he'd die overnight based on past games. The only details given to me about the 3 suspects was that we should please be careful with Paris. Well, I bet there's at least 3 or 4 scum in there, so... yep, all who voted for Brittney should expect scrutiny. Yeah, the only reason I can think of that he got night killed was metagaming, and that's also the only reason I can think of that he'd foretell his death. Strong player that the scum knew was town, but also knew that he'd been quiet on day 1 so unlikely to be protected or watched or anything else.
-
Well.... quick comments here and then I'll be back later with more (for reals, not like that Benvolio dude). I also got a message from Lawrence with the same list of suspects. I suspect that he might have been a metagame kill - in other fights with the scum he's been a solid player, so that's the only reason I see to take him out first like this. And Rocky, the "no lynch" idea was originally mine, not Britt's.

Collectible Minifigures Mafia - Day One

Well, at least if you're going to OMGUS vote you're honest about it. And how was I supposed to know that you'd reappear right before the end of the day, when you hadn't been around? And even now, you make a single post with no content other than an OMGUS vote. So my vote stands. Personally, I suspect that Britt will turn up town and that's why I haven't moved my vote. This steady bandwagon that's built is extremely suspicious to me - not that she hasn't acted weirdly, but it looks very much to me like the scum saw an easy target and have jumped on. I'm looking forward to a nice case of "I-Told-You-So-itis" tomorrow. -

Still deciding who to vote for today, so I took a look at everyone's activity. Here's the totals as of this post: Character by Day 1 posts Ronald Montague darthpotato 5 Balthasar Jameson Kristel 5 Juliet Williamson CallMePie 7 Amanda Lazaro PsyKater 2 Laurence Adams purpearljellyblob 3 Danyelle DeFalco Adam 5 Janice Capulet Kadabra 2 Benvolio Roni Mencot 1 Brittney Alfredo Piratedave 6 Margret Pines Capt. That benvolio dude. Besides drunk and naked, he popped in to make ONE post saying he needed to catch up before saying anyhting, and then never came back. So... from me: Vote: Benvolio Roni (Mencot) There's several others who haven't said much at ALL, so they're also on my radar as trying to hide. Well that sucked, it was a nice table layout until I actually submitted the post. -

Last things I'll say on the no lynch idea - statistically, it's solid. Makes for a boring game, but it DOES increase the odds of town winning. (at least having no lynch for the first day or two) See the second post here: http://forum.travian.us/showthread.php?t=87580 Yeah, for those who think I was defending anyone, really, what was there to defend? -

Not a teammate (at least that I know of, cause we COULD both be town but I don't know anyone else's loyalties yet) or trying to take pressure off. I said something because that's all. Moving on... oh wait, I don't have anything else to move on to yet since nothing is happening. Drat. What about all the people we haven't heard much from ? starting to ping my scum-dar here... -

Sorry that you thought I was defending her at all - I was just trying to translate for what I thought was someone (Carlisa) was misinterpreting someone else being said. I was just trying to avoid the group going down a wasted path from thinking someone said something they didn't. And Ronald, I wasn't defending and trying to be subtle about it - I was saying I might be wrong because I might be wrong. I interpreted what Britt said differently that how Carlisa did, so I was discussing and giving my opinion, like Council people are supposed to do. -

I think Britt meant her usual "policy lynch" (ie lynch all liars, or lynch inactives, or similar) as opposed to "usual policy" lynch. Where you put the quote marks makes a big difference in meaning, huh? At least that's the way I interpreted it. -

Ok, I'm saying IF we wanted, since there's no SK to speed thigns along, we COULD not do any lynching until investigations have revealed scum. We'd only lose 1 town per night to the scum, meaning we'd have 10 days (assuming the 15/5 ratio) before they win. Somewhere in those 10 days, surely the night actions of the town could find some trustworthy people and some scum. They could then use the trustworthy people to announce who the scum are (gotta protect the power roles) and they'd then be lynched. AND anyone not voting off said person would be obvious scum as well. Each time a scum is lynched, that's another day before they win (ie we'd have more than 10 days), so it should allow plenty of time to get them all. I'll grant you, it would be an epically boring game, since it'd be 100% reliant on NA and everyone would just spend all day everyday making fluff posts. But it should work. PRobably not a great method here on EB where we play slower and more entertaining games, but I hear it's sometimes done on other places with scum problems that hunt much faster, so that a 10+ day game doesn't take 6 weeks. All that said (getting laryngitis here from talking so much! or is this carpal tunnel from typing?) I understand not wanting to go this route - it's against the spirit of the hunt here and would be terribly boring. Does give me some ideas for interesting twists to run a future game though... So let's hunt scum! We do need to make sure we don't get TOO unanimous as townies in our voting though - we need to force the scum to vote as a bloc so we can identify them easier. -

Right, but assuming it's around an 18 town / 6 scum ratio, that would be TWELVE DAYS before the scum win, and certainly somwhere along the way the town w/ abilities would come up with useful info. So it should be effective, but pretty darn boring :) (forgot to count how many people we've got here - just 20. So if it's 15 town / 5 scum, that'd give us 10 days before they win.) -

Wow, so y'all really didn't like my idea, huh?.... guess you probably don't want my suggestions about fakevotes, and fingers of suspicion, and selecting from a pill cart, and.... For the record, I envisioned still discussing and everything as if we were lynching, but I do admit it loses some (ok, a lot) of the usefulness if people aren't forced to commit to a vote. On the other hand, since in theory we only have a max of 3 kills a night (lynch, scum, and if there's a vig), if we JUST had a scum kill each night we could drag the game out long enough for the NAs to have serious usefulness in rooting out the scum. No SK to speed things along. On the other other hand (for the Polymelia victims among us), since we need an actual majority, as long as the legit townies don't bandwagon too much in these early days, we should be able to force the scum to all (or nearly all) vote for one victim and root them out that way. -
Collectible Minifigures Mafia - Day One

Janice, have to say I agree too. My experience has shown that whoever everyone THINKS is a good choice D1 is usually a wrong call. Now, it's to be expected just based on the odds, but still.... the group consensus does not have a great track record about D1 lynches. In fact, what would everyone think about NOT lynching today? We'll obviously lose a town overnight to the scummos, but odds are that a lynch will off a second town. I've heard in other places that doing so can be a good strategy since you probably will be wrong in a D1 lynch and so it saves one townie and gives us the night to carry out whatever abilities we have. The scum will hate this idea, since they WANT to use today to lynch a townie. I'm not saying that anyone disagreeing with me is scum. And it may be a non issue since we need an actual majority to lynch, not just the most votes is gone. -

Making a sound THAT horrible is a certain sign of scum, or so I've heard. But then again, at this point I think ALL OF YOU are scum. I know I'm not, so if we just lynch everyone but me, we win, right? But you all are just overwhelming me with strange people. It's making my teratophobia flare up I tell you! -

Collectible Minifigures Mafia: Sign-Ups
mostlytechnic replied to TrumpetKing's topic in LEGO Mafia and Role-Play Games
1. What is your favorite Collectible Minifigure? Well, within arms reach right now I have Statue of Liberty, HazMat, mad Scientist, Surgeon, Jekyll, Computer nerd, wind up robot, sleepy boy, gunslinger, and probably a few more hiding. Favorite though is either Hazmat or Mad Scientist. 2. Will you be able to post on a daily basis over the next month or two? Yep, won't be any problem. 3. Can you keep up with 24 hour night action deadlines? That's assuming I HAVE a NA, which I never have. But if I get lucky, yes I could do that. 4. I almost forgot to ask for your experience! Aperture, MAfia Mafia, Silver City 5. Will you be ready to experience whatever horror the simplicity of my first hosting experience brings? After the surprises of the last few games, some simplicity sounds sorta nice :) But if you make it horrific, that'll still be fun too! I just wanna hunt (or be, I've never been...) scum. -

Thanks - looking back I was way too trusting at first of trumpet and wary of fhomess, but I was starting to see my error. Just not fast enough to do anything about it. As for others I was deliberately trying to NOT just go with lynching based on activity or annoyingness (since that never seems to work well) and so I look forward to more games to improve my study of the scum. Heck, I'd love to BE one some day too :) -

No rush at all on reporting / comments there Tammo, take care of yourself and your travel. Like everyone said, it was great fun and I'm sorta glad to see myself dying off sooner each game I play :) -

Wow, much twists in this game! Tristan, good job in your PM conversation with me. I trusted you (for a while - I was starting to suspect you before I got killed...) Shoulda seen sooner that the poisoner=fhomess due to the player change made no sense, since the poisons wouldn't have died until then anyway. Tammo - can you post the details of roles? I know there was some weird stuff going on (the 50% vig, for example) and I'd love to see what exactly everyone had going on since I was just a lowly vanilla... -

Silver City Mafia: Day 5 - Unforgiven
mostlytechnic replied to Tamamono's topic in LEGO Mafia and Role-Play Games
Well, IMHO, the issue isn't trying to decide who is good and bad. It's declaring "cleared" rather than just saying "I think these are town, and I'm suspicious of those". It's that "cleared" is too strong of a term - hard to say I've EVER had someone I'd considered cleared in any town I've been in. There's always a way you could be wrong. There's several people - certainly Kenneth is now one of them - that I consider most likely to be town, but the only person I consider truly cleared is myself (and all the dead townies). And I only consider myself cleared TO MYSELF - I don't think anyone else should consider me cleared. I hope I'm trusted by people and that people think I'm town, but I don't think anyone could say 100% for sure I'm town other than me and the deity, since I know what my role PM said. -
Silver City Mafia: Day 5 - Unforgiven
mostlytechnic replied to Tamamono's topic in LEGO Mafia and Role-Play Games
While Kenneth is right and the vanilla role cop results do NOT mean the person is town, I'm now inclined to think he's town. Not as sure on the other two yet. And of course, that's all depending on the role cop being town and telling us the truth! I'm also in the "michael was probably scum" camp. Or third party, but I'm almost sure non-town. I can't see them janitoring a townie. Kane, thanks for reminding everyone again (seriously people....) that the poison takes time to work! I know yesterday that was making me heavily reconsider my attacks on kenneth, since thinking he was the poisoner was largely based on timing and it really wouldn't have worked like we initially thought since poison takes time. Well, I think most people consider "clearing" to be more certain - like have an actual investigator result showing them as town, rather than just "I think they're town". I know, there's almost never certainty in this until death, but I think most here don't consider anyone "cleared" yet. Yeah, there's people I'm starting to trust, but that doesn't mean I couldn't be wrong. I have been before, once or twice in my life. Well, then there was a time I thought I was wrong, but I was wrong about that :) -
Silver City Mafia: Day 4 - Dances With Wolves
mostlytechnic replied to Tamamono's topic in LEGO Mafia and Role-Play Games
Kenneth, thanks for your response. I want to believe you, but... 1. I can't think of any other explaination for the timing of the poisonings yet 2. Perry's reminder about Jessica's poison theory has one big hole. We've been specifically warned that the images have no hints. 3. I only talked to Tristan in private, not anyone else he was talking to. We discussed whether you [Kenneth] were SK, vig, or neither. He didn't push any of them in particular and I didn't either, expecially since I didn't know about Kimberly supposedly being the vig. We mostly discussed whether to bring it up to the whole town yet or not. The obvious fear was losing the vig if that's what you were. He started talking to me about the sheriff right after day 4 started. 4. Note that Tristan said "this morning" he was contacted by the role cop. I'm assuming he meant in his real world, not "early on day 4". If I'm right about that, then he and I were discussing it before he knew about the role cop claim and that would explain why he didn't assume SK until later today.
