  1. Interesting contest! This may seem a silly question, but are the baby dragons considered "animals" for this contest?
  2. Really nice dragons, and a good variety of styles. Creative parts use too!
  3. Incredible and beautiful MOC! One of the best I've seen. I really love your temples and statues. I'm working on a Rome project but its much simpler than this.
  4. Here are "historicalized" versions of the Batman figs. I wish I had a better torso with black armor for the "Spartan" and I'd need to cover or remove the bat printing. The wizard design is growing on me. The connection from the torso to leg slope seems a bit looser than usual though.
  5. By Grabthar's hammer! I like the snotty rock work on the sides, slick build!
  6. FYI the Batman Bricktober set is available at TRU starting today (Ninjago was last week). I was not successful in trying to army build the Roman / Spartan Batman because at my store at least they were strict about only giving out the set as a gift with purchase. I did pick up one set though after much deliberation on how to spend $50+ with TRUs pricing... Also interesting to note the value was $20 not the $15 previously speculated. Some people on ebay have piles of them so probably some places are selling them.
  7. I wish the spear didn't have that dangling thing, and that the bow and arrow was brown. Still I am tempted to buy some of those toy weapons, I was impressed with the ones I saw at Target.
  8. These sort of threads generally make me a bit sad, but I suppose people need to let off steam from time to time. I think LEGO designs these days are top notch, and I'm glad that they are successful with female oriented themes. I do wish for some different varieties of themes, and less or different licenses, but these things are cyclic. There's rumor of Harry Potter sets next year so that's something to look forward to, and who knows what 2019 holds. Regardless I always find great sets to buy each year.
  9. Beautiful neo-classic castle build! Great that you worked in several factions. I like the stained glass details.
  10. Great details on such a small footprint! Like the textures.
  11. TRU filed for bankruptcy, apparently they have 5 billion USD in debt. Its not clear yet if stores will close. In case anybody hasn't seen, they recently changed their rewards so that they're not redeemable on LEGO in store, but apparently there is a loophole online. If you have a lot of rewards, should cash them in soon if you want to use them on LEGO. https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/business/wp/2017/09/19/toys-r-us-files-for-bankruptcy-amid-struggle-to-pay-down-billions-in-debt/?utm_term=.f246ce33a857 https://www.toysrusinc.com/press/toysrus-inc-commences-court-supervised-processes-to-implement-financial-restructuring
  12. I'd like to add some facts to this thread, based on the catalog: Theme Name: Building Bigger Thinking Sets: 10405 (red brick bucket with 2x4 brick shape), 10404 to 10401 (gradually smaller "set shaped" boxes, not shaped like creator brick boxes). Release Date: January 2018 Tagline: "Get Ready to Celebrate 60 Years of Creativity and Building Bigger Thinking!" Also note the 60 years logo looks just like the 50 years logo on the Town Plan anniversary set. Now my speculation: 10405 red brick bucket is probably a 100+ USD set, 10404 around 60-100 USD, 10401 around 10-20 USD. I'm not sure it will be a legends type remake of old sets, given the theme "building bigger thinking," although that would "celebrate 60 years of creativity." I don't think it will be brick boxes besides the obvious one either. I think it may be something more unique, maybe all the sets will combine in some way?
  13. Great looking building, the roof and all the different textures / embossed details are beautiful. The style has a nice balance of historical inspiration and fantasy.
  14. The wizard printing is nice in general but personally I find the batman logo to be too iconic to treat as a generic bat symbol.
  15. In case people haven't seen this: Bricktober 1 by Candidbricks C, on Flickr I'd really like to get a few for the helmet and shield (printing will have to be removed), and sword/cape are always good. Maybe the legs could be reused. But its a pain to drop say $60 just to get 4 packs and have to sell all the rest of the figures. I wonder how much these will go for individually and if there will be a decent availability that way.
  16. I think the layoff is not so much about the loss in profit in the short term as about what it is believed to signify. They have been growing fast for a while, it looks like LEGO may have peaked and be starting a down slope so they need to plan for that coming dip instead of continuing growth.
  17. That is a nice armor for use with the helm, cool fig!
  18. Glad to inspire you! Be careful the parts can get scuffed. Using a particularly soft cloth seemed to help a bit.
  19. After stripping the printing the Lord Krakenskull helmet from NK is great for historic fantasy figs. The Elves shield for the latest waves is very nice as well.
  20. Brilliant idea to show the two time periods and flawless execution! Always great to see ancient Rome builds.
  21. Nice builds, the details match the style of the sets quite well!
  22. When I first saw the Nexo Knights helmet used for Lord Krakenskull in 70355 I knew I wanted to make some historic fantasy figs with it. These guys combine Nexo heads and helmet, Ninjago and Nexo body parts, and Elves shields and emblem tiles. A real adventure themes smorgasbord. The hard part was getting the printing off the helmets. I followed the brasso tutorial on here but some of the printing goes into the crevices around the eyes, brow ridge, and "teeth", meaning a lot of toothpick scrubbing is needed. And then getting the brasso out of all the little corners was fun too! Worth it for these cool helmets though, hopefully they are available without printing at some point.
  23. Nice rockwork! Its kind of funny to see sand green being used as hidden support structure, since it has been one of the less common colors until recently with it being in PAB and now quite a few new pieces in Ninjago.
  24. Goats already exist, I'd be fine with them just putting the existing ones into new sets. I do think deer and more common birds would be great for natural scenery.
