  1. Very nice part use here, especially the cockpit, shoulders and the shield. The cockpit gives it a little Macross feeling, it works very well on this model.
  2. I especially like those. The fact I have no idea what they are makes them even more interesting. I was wondering what they could be, but they're so specific they'd necessarily be something really nasty. I'd say most likely light based. They remind me of a device I've seen once that was causing seizures. But it could also blind the enemy (cameras or pilots). Or something entirely different of course. Makes me want to make one, put it on a ship, give it to a kid and ask him what he thinks it is. xD
  3. Now that's a great combination of smoothness and complexity. I especially like how you take advantage of the huge scale of the model to use big parts and make them look like tiny details. The weapons on the hips and shoulders are particularly well designed here. Very nice job.
  4. That's what Technic models should look like, instead of trucks and bikes !
  5. Awesome. That's almost exactly what I always wished Lego would do officially : several small base parts like that you could assemble to make a bigger space base. Now of course it's always been possible to make similar builds, but it was always at the cost of way too many spaceships in a kid's small collection. Official sets such as this would have been perfect.
  6. I really hope there'll be some new space theme soon. Classic or not, it doesn't really matter to me, only the theme and colour scheme are important. Another Space Police would be insanely boring, there's been 3 already and they had little to combine with. Best choice, in my opinion, would be either a real space-like theme, ie exploration, mining, research, or the depiction of a society in space, like an equivalent of City but on spaceships, on the moon or on another planet. I'll also insist on how important the colour scheme is. The white and transparent from Galaxy Squad was classy but really not interesting in my opinion. I like vivid coloured flashy spaceships, unlike the brown on grey with trans-black windows already found in Star Wars sets. So rather than neo-classic-space, I'd say anything that doesn't betray that spirit would be fine, colourful, a little naive, and more importantly not just a good vs evil theme.
  7. Thanks all. :) @bobabricks: Nope, I had never noticed it before (I'm not into "super heroes" sets at all), It's a coincidence. There doesn't seem to be many ways to use those parts to make doors though. Funniest part is they apparently locked the doors the same way, which I thought would possibly be considered an "illegal build". Good to know it isn't. :)
  8. For my first Shiptember experiment, I wanted to make a barge for my (neo) M:Tron fleet. Length: 134 studs Weight: ~3.7kg full, ~3.4kg empty (Click pics, see bigger pics, but you know that) The barge is a cargo able to fly in and out of atmosphere. It can transport all kinds of ore and raw material. It's especially useful to bring the ice extracted from the asteroid fields to the colony. Each compartment can be sealed with a small pressure on its top, which proved to be a life saver several times. Reactors are convenient to move the barge, but it's really hard to find anything interesting to tell about them. Anyway, it can also transport standard M:Tron containers... And has a landing surface for small vehicles similar to the ones found in Mega Core Magnetizers. It has a toolbox. Toolbox aren't really funny but that area was so empty it was depressing. But the most important is the cabin... Because it has a sofa. And nobody knows how the sofa, which is the only sofa from Earth on this side of the galaxy, got in there. Penelope, the pilot, says the barge was built around it. It also has toilets, a water fountain, a small refrigerator and a cute bed hidden in a corner, which is unfortunate because it's really cute. Finally, the seat of the deck can move in front of the control panels. It doesn't sound like much... and well, it isn't, haha. There, I don't think it's impressive in any way, but I've had fun building this and I like it, it's a fine addition to my fleet. I realized 100 studs isn't as hard to reach as I first thought, so I'll probably try bigger next time.
  9. It'd be so great to have the parts in the right colours to build these.
  10. Thanks all. :) @Umbra-Manis & SpacerSteve: I think I'll never be able to build a ship or vehicle without a large cockpit and interior again, it's just much more fun for me. I can only hope they'll release more big trans-neon-green parts someday. @Danorak: I almost gave up trying to collect the entire series myself, I'm still missing the Stellar Recon Voyager (I only have half of it) and an original Mobile Satellite Up-Link (although that's not really an issue). Can't wait to see more M:Tron around. Good luck finding parts.
  11. Thanks guys. :)
  12. Here's my 14th M:Tron MOC: the Autonomous Mobile Greenhouse, Acclimatization and Seeding Machine ! (Click on pics for bigger versions.) The AMGASM is one of the flagships of the terraforming M:Tron crews. Its three greenhouses help to acclimatize plants, micro-organisms, worms and insects. Its water tank collects rainwater and water from the ground to optimize the acclimatization to the direct environment. The living organisms are then taken and dropped on the ground after it's been plowed. Its very slow progress, only 16km a day in optimal conditions, is the main reason for its full automation. Maintenance is done daily, although almost entirely unnecessary. A crane keeps the small M:Tron vehicles (such as those from the Mega Core Magnetizers) nearby during the daily monitoring. The cockpit allows manual control and setting of the tools and devices. Finally, the upper platform is accessible through a trap door located above the entrance. There, I hope you liked it. :)
  13. No, no, no. A ship that big is not possible, you're in the wrong dimension.
  14. If you already chose the colours of your spaceship, you can begin by removing the irrelevant colours, and possibly "unusable" parts (castle walls for example). But it's often better not to put only one colour in a box unless it's well organized. Keep in mind the more you organize your parts, the less you'll damage them when you're searching something. So it's much better, for example, to have all the transparent parts and the easily damaged smoothest parts (such as curved parts) apart.
  15. What Frostyfeet said, but not being skilled either, I'll share some of my habits. There are three main concepts from my standpoint: appearance, global functionality, and local functionality. So the first idea is to place the key elements of your design where you want them to give you an idea of what you need to do. For example, you can place all the windows and wings on your desk as you want them on your spaceship. This way you can see the length of the structure you need, how high some parts have to be compared to others, etc. Then you start assembling roughly, and refine when needed. This way, your spaceship should look the way you want it to. The second idea is to build a structure, mostly like a technic model, and when it does what you want it to do, you decorate it. The third idea is to build several elements separately and assemble them the best you can so you'll have several separate playing elements on your spaceship. You'll notice they don't exclude one another. You can easily do 3, 1 and 2, which means: design some gameplay elements, place them with decorative elements, and build a complex structure to make all that work together.
  16. That's just an idea, but I've seen *very* big exoforce MOCs using the method used on bionicle titans, which is a mixture of ball/cup and axle/cylinder. Maybe you could adapt that to build a stronger skeleton for your gundam.
  17. That's really nice, I like it a lot. The colours are especially well chosen. But maybe you're missing an opportunity. Since you're building it with LDD, why don't you make it like it's floating on a cloud or on a weird shaped rock with very thin parts (something like this or this one)?
  18. I vote BT1 and lime. Lime seems to work on some MOCs, especially when it's used the way yellow is used in BT1, only a few touches and lines. Trans neon green is probably my favourite LEGO colour, but I think it's way too bright for this theme. The problem though, is that I don't like yellow, and white always seemed like a bad idea to me. Although it does look great with trans neon green, it just looks out of place. I'd rather see them replaced with more black, possibly dark grey. So I essentially voted against white. I really like Space Police XVIII's version of the blacktron theme here. Maybe I'd even get rid of the logo.
  19. They can try all the new stuff they want, I just wish they would release sets with colour schemes compatible with the older series, especially the transparent parts. I'm so sick of trans black and trans clear. Of course, the logos and minifigs would still be missing, but that would be a good start nevertheless. But if someone can think of a devious way to lure them into releasing parts with all the classic logos (with the right background colour of course), that would be even better.
  20. Thanks. :) @TheLazyChicken: I'd love to see more as well. Maybe in 30 years when they'll be considered a classic... @SpacerSteve: Oh I can perfectly see what you mean. I was really disappointed when I built the original insectoids to see almost nothing was moving. The bionicle parts aren't perfect, but they really give the models the "organic" feeling that was missing. Hardest part is to make them look like bionicles as little as possible though.
  21. Haha ! Thanks ! It might be hard to believe, but taking them outside was indeed a little crazy. The sun was hitting really hard and the weather actually turned into a thunderstorm only a few seconds after the last picture of the second series. As for the story, the idea was originally to have the two small ones gathering food, with the scorpion-like one protecting them. The missing pictures (no time to make those), were supposed to show a Galaxy Squad Titan's "Deep Space Destroyer" flying over them, causing them to retreat to the woods where the big one appears (4th pic), forcing the Titan to leave. The last two pics were meant to be reconnaissance observation, showing the biggest insectoid guarding the insectoid workers after that event. But the combination of little time and unfavourable weather made me drop the idea.
  22. I'm trying to make some insectoids following the Galaxy Squad color scheme and using some bionicle parts. Here are my first two (click for bigger pics if necessary): And this one, a little inspired by an Exo-Force model: The eyes aren't where you'd think they are.
  23. Oh please, tell me this beauty has an interior.
  24. @Lady K & Dannylonglegs: That'd be quite a custom piece to make. The M:Tron Unikitty would need a white background on a black brick, then the drawing of the head and finally a transparent fluorescent coating. Sounds awesome. I have no idea how to do that. @Chase The Cop: Great to play with, indeed. It's a bit heavy though, the kids need to use both hands to make it "fly", and they hesitate a lot when they have to carry it. The swooshing factor took a hit on this one. But aside from that it's really playable. :)
  25. More than 25 years later, it still looks great. I especially remember I kept building this one over and over when I was a child, until I got the M:Tron Mega Core Magnetizer and began doing so with that one instead. The only complaint I ever had about this set was, indeed, the bottom of the front part, which was easy enough to fix, fortunately.
