42055 - Bucket Wheel Excavator

Good questions for the designers -
I think the real engineering feat is taking a weakness in the part and using it a strength. Lego pieces have a ton of slack in them, making most suspension and steering solutions sloppy. And it is t something you can engineer away. Why not try to find a way to use it. It is no different than the torsion beam suspensions found on many vehicles. Using the weakness of the material (the elasticity of the metal) and turning it into something functional

If they are changing the axle color theory, it isn't being implemented evenly. 42048, for instance, has axles in red, yellow, lbg, dbg, and tan. The 7m axles in 42048 are lbg, but in another set they are yellow. The only reason I can think of, is they need these axles in yellow and red and are spreadin them out to spread the cost of a special color run on the axles. Or TLG could just be messing with us.

Go check out the akiyuki gbc thread. There is at least 3 or 4 people working on recreating akiyuki's gbc machines. As for the rest of the technic world, I couldn't tell you. I am the only person in my area that I know is in to technic. I think we as technic builders are tend to build alone so we have our own styles which make it hard to collaborate. The highly collaborative themes, like trains, gbc, and town layouts, have specific guidelines to follow to make each unit fit together. Nathaniel Kuiper came up with some guidelines, but I've not really seen anyone else adopt them. That would make a fun Technic Challenge. Design a vehicle so that it goes together like 8448 or 8244. Each person can design up to one of each module.

You have to use 2 receivers and 2 battery boxes because 4 l motors will trip the protection in a single battery box- 220 replies

When you paint you fleet pink it does two things, generates awareness of the issue, and then generates additional revenue as people switch to that product because they give money to a charity. -

Definitely well said. My wife brought me out of my dark ages with 8297, and makes sure I have every opportunity to purchase sets when we can. She has even tricked into the Lego Store a few times. But we should get back on topic, unless this set requires spousal approval to purchase. -

Is Sheepo's MB 300 SL supposed to have 2 entries in the HoF? There is one on page 6 and one on page 7. -
Why are Eneloop Pro batteries good?
deehtha replied to Technic Jim's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Mixing different types of batteries, even same brand rechargeables with different mAH rating is not good. If I recall right, the motors are all 12v but the control circuitry in the IR receivers gets damaged above 10. I don't know about the rc unit though. As for not driving very well, without seeing the model, we can't help you too much. -

"What is the Smarthub 2 I/O? An electronic system based building brick that is part of the LEGO Power Functions (LPF) 2.0, a new technology platform for LEGO Education." Straight from the same page that mentions changing plugs. Although this does just say for LEGO Education. 2.0 is happening, just a question of when and what. -

TLG put out 9398, which is a crawler. Take it outside and try to rock crawl with it and it will roll. Didn't stop them from making 41999. My nephew drove my Volvo loader down some stairs, it came apart. I didn't get angry, and complain to TLG. I just asked him to help me rebuild it and to be more careful where he drives. I think most parents are smart enough to say, "it's made of small pieces and will break apart when run into a wall. Stop crying and just rebuild it". This set is 16+ for a reason. Hopefully, because of advanced electronics. -

If they were to introduce a new buggy motor, the Porsche would be an excellent platform to launch PF 2.0. If this is motorized. I hope it is, but it is looking less and less likely. I just hope what we can't see if phenomenal. -

Maybe they are the scaled dimensions, based on the size of the dump truck. -

The Toys'R'Us's here in central Ohio have had all of the big technic sets, just not all at the same store. I can't remember if they had any 41999, but I would expect any store that had 41999 to have the Porsche. -
[HELP] Laptop or Tablet for PDF Building Instructions?
deehtha replied to Andy D's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I use a laptop over my tablet too. I like the laptop because the screen can be angles and for me it is much easier to follow the instructions upright, as opposed to flat. Plus, the screen is much bigger -

What if you sacrifice a little of the curve and move the 5l beam up one stud to connect with the roof (di 6l thin lift arms exist in white?)? That should give you some strength. Or attach the roof to the roll cage. The whole shape looks nice. I like the top pictures of the hood better. Just need some filler at the back of the arch near where the door attaches.- 29 replies

I think has new hubs, at least on the front. I haven't been able to recreate the position of the pieces that are visible with any of the current hubs. -
Just looking at the two images the one on the right looks like it has more reinforcing. Besides the changes in the ridges, the base of the claw part also looks thicker. There are many reasons to Make minor changes to a mold. In this case it looks like TLG wanted to strengthen the piece. Other pieces have had the plastic reduced, without reducing the strength. Newer machines might require a different mold setup, requiring a new mold pattern. And some piece got new molds just to match the newer pieces.
