  1. Biases can be explained. I would love to hear yours. Again, not saying I agree or disagree. But I don't think TLG is doing themselves any favors in the eyes of the public. Time will tell. Perhaps they will be able to work on this image once they actually acquire BL and the changes begin. I will say this however, no matter the quality of the product, in any market, how one is perceived by their buyers is important. Also, in my experience, ethics are great but there is a place where one's back is against the wall where ethics change. I am not speaking of the sentiment "everyone has a price" - no, it is just that ethics are built on a hierarchy where folks can easily rationalize poor behavior because their POV has shifted. In their eyes they are not being unethical, it is just that the game table has changed. If, after this acquisition the average price per piece raises substantially and even prohibitively for some builders, the Robin Hood analogy you gave will be real. VERY real. Given the choice between one's ethics or enjoyment derived from their hobby there will be many who will chose the latter. Right or wrong, It will begin to creep its ugly face in the picture if the average price per piece rises substantially.
  2. I have not read all seven pages so I hope this is not redundant. But TLG has a perception about them out there, not saying it is accurate or not, but it is out there. This perception says they are the typical big, bad, magnum company out there to suck all the money from the earth. Again, not saying it is accurate or not, but it is there. There is also a perception out there about copy-cat companies of TLG (Lepin, etc.). The perception is they are bad, copy-cats, stealers, copiers, etc. .... but, at least they do not rob the AFOL community. The narrative goes something like this..... they are dishonest in that they offer a product the illegally took from others, but...... at least they do not charge an arm and a leg for it. At least they do not try to monopolize the hobby. There are those out there, behind closed doors, that think monopolizing the market, or at least the attempt to do so, is as bad if not worse than being a copy-cat. Not saying I agree with it, but the perception is out there. Pick your poison I guess. I am wondering if this recent takeover changes the perception of any towards TLG versus copy-cat Lego companies....
  3. I loved the set. And I also have 42056 and 83. Though they offer alot of the same thing, as others have pointed out, and overly-complicated gear-boxes, I have fun learning about them and building them. And for the price, well.... it is a better value IMO than either 42056 or 83. Also, I think there are huge differences between at least 42056, 83 and 42110. 42083 and 42110 are much more dense. IMO the building techniques much more interesting and sophisticated. Build for each was much more fun and appreciated than 42056.
  4. They would never do that just because it is always possible to do with sets as they come already.....
  5. Suppose I can, but it is so finicky. Worked just fine a few weeks ago.
  6. Looks like my BuWizz is up to its no good tricks again. Tried the sequence that worked last time and it won't work now. I have the V1 type, with the new app. Don't want to re-download it again because I just did it a while ago. Any ideas? What are some ways to troubleshoot this problem?
  7. Wow... this looks great. Do you have just regular pics of the model with the new actuators?
  8. The new Defender set lends itself well to cut-away pics:
  9. To me, according to the eye test.....yes.
  10. Its funny. The elbow macaroni piece (newer version) came out in 2016 and was pretty much not used at all for the Technic line. Then came 2018 and it seems to appear in nearly every set now. Sometimes unnecessarily. That is how I feel about 42108. I like the set, but it doesn't seem to go well with the cab layout.
  11. Yea, if one does not like the 2020 flagship models buying two of these may suffice. That would be around the 250 USD mark and around 2500 pieces. Perfect metrics your make ur own flagship model.
  12. Had a feeling this would be coming soon with the new XL linear actuators. Great model, i am liking it as well. Also be a fun model to buy two of, and combine into a 6 or seven (or even eight) axle monster.
  13. Ummm.... yea, this is dangerously close to being shut down. C'mon guys. Read the guidelines. Jim?
  14. Yes, I know of Chrome Block City. I labeled them wrong in my post. My bad. But I did not know the owner (Auri) and I did not know he would do custom orders to TY for the information.
  15. Some new information I had not heard of on this thread. Specifically, that TLG may be using molds eerily similar to molds first created by other brands. Thanks for the information. Honestly though, there are now so many knock-off brands it is not worth trying to keep track anymore. I recently got back from living in downtown Seoul, Korea for a whole year. When I was first there, when I would go sight-seeing, I would see so many examples of knock-off brands. Initially I had the goal of taking pics of sets every time I came across a knock-off brand. However, there were so many, I just gave up. In fact, they have a whole neighborhood dedicated to children's toys and adult hobbies. In that section of the city alone, I came across dozens upon dozens of different knock-off Lego brands....
  16. Part of the fun of fantasy is stepping outside the boundaries of our current situation. Love this build. Thanks for sharing.
  17. Ive used BL for years. Still selling 2010-2015 technic sets. I think its ur best bet.
  18. Chrome Grill looks amazing. I think I might apply it to mine. Question for the group- I know if Chrome City Bricks and Real Chrome on BL but the parts selection is so limited. I see so many with pics of a part selection much more extensive than what I see at either of these two stores. ANyone have recommendations of other stores?
  19. Figured it out. Its the sequence in which the BuWizz unit is turned on. I need to have the app open, etc. then turn on the unit. Prior to this i had been turning the unit on first, then trying to start the app. I never remember this being an issue in the past.....
  20. Only tried to pair because app did nothing.. And charged fine. Zero use was due to my hectric schedule. Just getting personal stuff back from being overseas...
  21. It has been just under a year since I used my Buwizz last. I pulled it out to use it today not I cannot get it to pair. It is requesting for a pssword but I don't remember setting one up and I don't have it anymore. Any help?
  22. Upper left. Yea, I get that much, but for some reason, in complex gearboxes it becomes much more difficult for me. Perhaps I just need to try the advice though....
  23. one would have to first know how power is transferred to color the gears.... no?
  24. Very useful, and yes, this is in response to a question I had about a year ago I took time this morning to really read this. Thank you for taking the time to do this. I think I understand everything written, but honestly additional help from the community would be useful for dolts like me. I have no formal training in this stuff and gearboxes still throw me. Simple ones - no problem. But more complex ones I still have difficulty in following the path in which power is transferred. Take for example 42110 gearbox. I am building it now. The four speed gear box in the rear is simple enough, and I understand how the primary stage of the gearbox (much like @Didumos69's examples here) meshes with the rear four speed gearbox to produce additional gears. But the forward versus rear indicator throws me. It almost seems like there are two inputs, and I am not sure how that works. Wondering if there are any good resources out there that show the path in which power is transferred through more complex gearboxes. I know there are many resources out there for real gearboxes but these are simple enough. In real life there are enough different sizes of gears so that they don't need to be so needlessly complex. One would think that as long as one has the principles mastered one could apply them to understand any gearbox; yet this is not the case for me. I can master most, but then comes along 42110 and I am lost.
