  1. Nice work, the speed is quite crazy. Do you have a boat battery level indicator on the controller? Or is a swimming regimen part of the development process?
  2. http://blog.rectorsquid.com/linkage-mechanism-designer-and-simulator/ A second vote for this one, as it is quite good, but it takes a bit of time to learn all the options. I still prefer physical building for linkages because it is easier to discover unintended consequences or states. I think simulators are more useful for complex linkages, or finding optimal paths.
  3. @Philo I can make a drawing when I receive the parts. Can you open DXF or DWG files, or is a drawing annotated with dimensions better?
  4. @Didumos69 My parts are in the mail, I'll be able to test designs soon. I'm also following the LDraw parts tracker, but the wave selector is not there yet.
  5. The answer to this has come up in the past, in a way. There are several members who have expressed the willingness to participate in a contest that has no prizes. You can include me in that group, as long as the goals are clearly defined. I think prizes are a bonus for many people, it's the competition that's the real payoff.
  6. I think @Erik Leppen is driving home a very valid point. The idea of a contest is very appealing if the rules and goals are clearly defined. It makes participating and judging much more enjoyable.
  7. That rear light is starting to look like the real thing. Nice work.
  8. I'm very interested in this as well. I made some preliminary 6-speed layouts, but centering the wave selector axle in a triangular setup is somewhat problematic (so far).
  9. I checked this in LDCad and I'm not 100% sure that a 2 axle solution will work. When the tan gears are aligned with the 16z gear, the orientation of the input axles puts the 12z gears in positions that interfere with the 24z gear. One side can mesh properly, but the other side looks to be interfering. I tried to split the difference with no success. A physical build may behave differently. No Facebook here, what's in the link?
  10. Yup, although you're saving on the width. The only downside is that it uses a weak 8z gear, making it unsuitable for mechanized models. @Limga Were you looking for a 2 speed gearbox for a manual or motorized model?
  11. @Bublehead Why not go through the HOF topic, pick a few models and contact the creators directly?
  12. Nice work guys! The length of the video is just right - it shows progress at a good pace and keeps the interest piqued.
  13. @Void_S I would wait a bit before sharing it publicly. The knockoff sets are still in pre-sale, why make their life any easier. You can probably share it with EB members you trust through more private channels.
  14. The live build was very well produced. I liked the picture in picture display and the multiple camera angles. At the beginning I was wondering if you were chained to the desk until you finished the build with no food, water or "amenities", but luckily there was a helper who sorted parts while you took quick breaks. Nice job.
  15. I did that already as part of the gearbox, but I realized that in certain gearboxes it may be nice to have an option of switching gears without going through neutral or extra gears.
  16. I saw this also, and was wondering if that combination was "legal". It looks like maybe 2/3 of regular meshing.
  17. @Didumos69 pointed out there's some stressed meshing going on in the engine, I think that's what @Paul Boratko is talking about.
  18. Something fun I discovered today: we'll eventually want to design a 180 degree stepper mechanism for shifting.
  19. August 1st, price reduction not guaranteed.

  21. Sorry, this wasn't a dig at your wallet. I simply meant that the price of this set that puts in the no-buy the category for me. The "affordability" is more related to premium building experience that includes fancy packaging and an instruction book with beautiful photos and car history. I know that the set will be expensive, and as I don't care about the premium experience, this makes the set un-affordable to me, so I shouldn't be asking about the price.
  22. At today's exchange rate it's probably closer to $450. We'll find out tomorrow. For some reason I'm reminded of the old car sales slogan, "If you have to ask, you can't afford it."
  23. The gear ratios in the compact 4 speed box by @Didumos69 were not letting me rest. This solution omits the 20z clutch gear and has the following gear ratios: Gear 1 - 0.33 Gear 2 - 0.6 Gear 3 - 1.0 Gear 4 - 1.8 The ratio for Gear 4 is too high, but this is a compromise that was made to have only one overdrive gear. I think this would work well in a manual model, but I'm not a fan of the double 8z gears on the output shaft, especially in the last gear. The difference in the engine speed would be quite apparent. The more I play (virtually) with these new parts, the more I get the impression that they are meant for more complex gearboxes, not 4 speed ones.
  24. By all means, share your prototypes! This combination of parts ended a small "dark age" for me - I haven't been this excited about new parts in a really long time. I can't wait to how other builders will use them. @I_Igor The first post asks the moderators to figure out if this topic should be merged with a different one. I'll leave that decision to them.
