Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Wookiee replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
It will be interesting as i am going to the states in November and was hoping to pick up town hall at a bricks and mortar shop. I hope they are still readily available then as they are expensive here in oz. -
I am going the swebricks route but with three plates through the middle so if i want a single line it ends up the same width if i have a double line in places. Also if you use 1x1 round bricks you can have the road go up and down with a smooth transition. I have not done the curved road bit yet but have a a good pic of it done and will be attempting it at some stage.

Welcome fellow Queenslander. I can relate. Growing up my cousin always had more lego (mainly classic space) and i loved hanging out with him building stuff. Ah the memories i think that is why i am enjoying Lego a second time around.

Thanks Eurotrash for pointing out no starch for the other members. I could not wait for the book to get to oz and was able to download prior to release date on No Starch although the download was slow and needed restarting a few times.

I bought the digital version as i really like thier mocs. It is ok. An advanced builder won't get a lot from it but for a newb like me it is a great reference piece for different facades and interior techniques.

I really like your builds. Great interiors (especially like the use of the windscreen) ,not over the top externally. Suggest use of tan light sabres for chop sticks though. The only element i don't like is the round yellow brick.

The reason the site only allows small images is nothing to do with 56k modems or peoples speed of internet but the cost of running a large server. Bandwidth has to be bought, the more images, the more Bandwidth, the more cost. With such a large user base it would cost a fortune if every person visiting the site would be basically chewing up bandwidth with each veiw. I hope this explanation of the reasoning helps. On topic , great idea. I got back into lego because it helps me connect with an earlier part of my life and a project like this is as much about those great memories as it is the train.

Yes they do. The picture is from Redcokid,s Pumpkin Factory. http://modularsbykristel.com/models-by-redcokid/ -
Awesome Moc. Reminds me of my morning ritual getting my Coffee. The only detail that is off is that you need heap of chocolate bars at the register instead of fruit unless they are healthy lot in your city.

I have built the city restaraunt ,cost between $300 and $400 aud to Brink link all parts although i was not very adept at Bricklink at the time and i also purchased other parts with the batches. It is a nice building and the top sits about level with the second floor of the grand emporium. Excellent instructions, good techniques and a lot of small pieces in this set. I thought the plans were good value ,i get the some people like to do it all themselves but have no hassle paying $10 to $15 to someone who was done all the work to create a nice looking building that i would like to recreate. I really like his new twin pack buliding too.

Yep looks like the Australia Tax has been applied again. It is completely ridiculous in this day and age of the internet.

Really nice truck and i like you went for a B Double trailer set up. reminds me of my years in the Rocklea Markets. Also the tile you used for the road i could not find on Bricklink ;-)

Cool you are right, the amount of pieces you currently have would be a factor, i have zero pieces towards it and in Australia its $250 for a new modular so forking out $275 plus freight from the US is still not too bad at this stage for people like me who have come out of the dark ages recently. I would estimate it would be around $300-$400 or worse to BL inc freight to Oz,so to get the complete set would still be good value IMO for my circumstance. That and the waiting for various shipments (i just completed a Brick City Depot Modular that took 3 months to acquire parts) instead of just getting it complete in one go.

Just buy the complete set at this stage. thats what i am going to do.

This is great. I have started putting away parts towards this build. Will take me probably 12 months or so to accumulate but will be an awesome edition to my layout then. Thank you very much for sharing.

Great looking MOC . Awesome work on the interior. It really makes it. I thought the guy out the back was having a quick smoke. If it was where i work that is what would be going on outbthe back.

Scott , i live just to the north of Brisbane , Australia. As my nick suggests i am a star wars fan but dont collect any in lego except a Darth Vader minifig keyring torch. I am in my forties and loved lego as a kid with fond memories of building the old school trains circa late 70,s. I now have two daughters aged 2 and 4 so have got back into lego. Dispite my nick i love the modular building scene, trains and friends (which is great for my girls) which i am working up some mocs on as modulars from . I have been reading the forum for a few a short while now but decided it was time to join.
