42055 - Bucket Wheel Excavator
Bering replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I am hoping for better sets and less bricks, like the 8043. For me, Lego went too far with the BWE. It's only a statement, but the functions to bricks ratio is pretty lame. And the functions suffer a lot. Bigger is definitely not better. Hope they will continue their way with the Claas and Volvo EW160E. -
Nice review and good pictures. For me this is the winner this year, followed by the Volvo EW160E.

42055 - Bucket Wheel Excavator

Building the mine isn't a challenge. The only challenge you got is spending another 100 euro's for building the mine with bricks. Ofcourse, Lego has enough bricks to put in this video. -
42055 - Bucket Wheel Excavator
Bering replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Unfortunately the bucket wheel stops at the slightest resistance, it's of no use picking up bricks. The only way is throwing bricks in the buckets yourself. ;-) If you replace the clutch gears with normal gears the bucket wheel will continue to turn when it touches something. Furthermore, the turning speed of the bwe is far too slow. Enough room to mod here. :-) -

I see. :-) I'm from Europe and i have always had the best prices after months (even years) after release. The 2016 sets will certainly be no exception. My time will come. ;-) -

Why the rush? Patience is a good thing. These sets will be available for at least two years with many better discounts to come. :-) -

Another proof that many parts doesn't mean it's a great set. I'm glad the BWE hype is over now. The best sets in the past were mostly under 2000 pieces. Except for the 42043 Arocs, still one of my favorite sets. -
42053 - Volvo EW160E

For me this is the best technic set for 2016 with the best functions to pieces ratio. Looking forward to this flagship. -
If you go for the most functions and playability, go for the 8421. Did you consider the 8460 set? I like it better than 8421 and even 42009. 42053 seems to be a good candidate too. Compact, pneumatics and nice functions.

[CMODEL] 42042 - Bulldozer
Bering replied to J_C's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I agree with you. 42042 is one of the best technic sets. Lots of good functions, big, very playable and cheap. Really good work on your MOC. I'd love to build it. :-) -
42055 - Bucket Wheel Excavator
Bering replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Thanks for the link. The biggest drawback is that the main function "picking up bricks" doesn't work. You have to put the bricks in the buckets yourself, because the bucket wheel will stop turning at the slightest resistance. :-( There goes the main function of playabity. My first mod will be speed based though, it's far too slow. I like the lock function a lot, well constructed! -

Good point. Part damage may happen especially by "digging" too deep and break the LA's, because of the heavy weight of the BWE. Maybe a stop at the LA travel is possible. -

Nice review, it shows all the functions which we already knew about and the details. What more is there to say? I agree with the reviewer, for a flagship model with 4000 pieces the two manually operated LA's are a little bit cheap. I hope there will be some mods for a fourth lever taking care of that function. -

I'm excited too but can happily wait till prices drop to 200 euro's. No need for rushing things. :-) There will be enough for everybody. -

I'm afraid there isn't an extra book.... I love building, but the computer spoils my building fun a lot too. On the other hand, i understand the environment part. However, this set is mainly aimed at adults, so why not go back to the old school instructions? 10 steps on one page. It's more challenging, it saves paper and we have printed instructions for the B model again. Please Lego! -

Coastguard Mini Helicopter
Bering replied to steph77's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Really good job. Nice proportions and compact build. Thanks for the LDD-file! -
Time will tell, nobody knows yet. And it depends merely on your taste and preferences for vehicles/machinery. In a few weeks you can read the reviews of the new sets. I agree with Legonut, the helicopter is definitely one of the best sets this year. Good price, nice gearbox and lots of good executed functions.
