In the 70's/80's i played a lot with Lego. I ended with technic in 1984 when i went to highschool. In 2012 i picked up my hobby again. I bought the 9398 and 8043 and several other technic sets. But it never got me again like it did in the 80's. I like the gears and building techniques from the 80's. Can't help it. ;-) I already build the 8859 again, that was a tractor! I was looking for a used 8856 set for a long time, but almost all have broken flex cables. Today i got my surprise. A sealed 8856. Very happy with it!

LDD file of Tractor 8849?
Bering replied to Bering's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Thanks for your reply Calabar. I thought linking was also allowed from other sites. I registered at Bricksafe and placed my files there. I cropped the PNG to the edges of the object. I will make some other sets in future. -

LDD file of Tractor 8849?
Bering replied to Bering's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
I already started with the LDD but came across some problems. Part 4442 and 4261 for the steering isn't in LDD. I also can't find the big old technic wheels, but i can replace them with newer wheels. Any ideas to solve the steering problem? -

Thanks for your reply Lasse. I will try to make a LDD file for that set later. -
Does somebody have an LDD file of the technic tractor 8849? If so, i would be very happy.

Bricks cracking... just from being connected to one another?
Bering replied to Endgame's topic in General LEGO Discussion
For the TLG? For the customers you mean, right? The TLG really don't care, they don't even answer emails if you don't agree with replacing bricks and go into the never ending circle of replacing parts. But as you mentioned, it's strange to have so many complaints in Europe. Most of the problems don't exist in the USA as i can read here. So the bricks produced is not everywhere the same quality? -
Bricks cracking... just from being connected to one another?
Bering replied to Endgame's topic in General LEGO Discussion
In the 80's my parents bought me Lego for its durability. I have played so much and really tortured the bricks. 35 years later my Lego is chewed ;-) but not cracked. Now people are happy if their Lego set contains no cracks... It's sad to see new Lego sets crack after first assembly or after few months. It's true: in earlier times things were better. You bought things for life. But i still have hope Lego will be Lego again some day. And people will be buying quality again, not only the visuals. Just my two cents. -
Bricks cracking... just from being connected to one another?
Bering replied to Endgame's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I didn't post the pictures on facebook. Do you mean the official page of Lego on facebook? I am willing to do that, i really think this problem should be made more clear to the world. I respect your opinion, but i'm more of the type who faces Lego with their problems. Their service is good, but their attitude behind it isn't too good. Quality is lacking and they keep the people quiet by replacing bricks (or in your case giving a set). Hello... we pay big money for Lego. And for a product that cracks after a few months... are we gonna accept that? I send my feedback to Lego, they replied with a basic message. I could send my pieces and i get new parts. That's not gonna solve my problem. It's a structural problem. On my second email they didn't reply, when i send the pictures. So, if you keep quiet it is good, but if you are somebody who knows there is something wrong there, there isn't a reply anymore. I will post the reply i got from Lego. I had also parts break the first time i assembled them, even on the same color. Ok, i'm from the Netherlands, the one who posted a picture from the Ice Cream Stand is from Australia. But in this topic there a more people who report 100's of cracked pieces. I wish they join this topic again. This is the reply i got from Lego: Dear Barry, Thanks for getting in touch with us and thank you for voicing your concerns! LEGO® Fans occasionally tell us about pieces which have cracked, in particular the 1x1, 1x2 and 1x3 LEGO System bricks but sometimes others too. These are among the type of elements we produce most of (literally millions each year) and they are included in many sets - but only a tiny fraction of a percentage of all the pieces we produce have this problem. We use the plastic material ABS to manufacture these elements. This material has been chosen because it is very high quality; especially the coupling force (how well the bricks hold together) is of great importance for the play value of the product. However the drawback to the high coupling force is a slightly increased risk that elements may get so called "stress release cracks" when they are exposed to butter, perfume, bath oil, grease or similar which exist in most households. It's likely that this is what has happened to the piece you contacted us about. So far our LEGO builders around the world tell us that it is worth the small risk of cracked elements to get the excellent other properties of ABS. Nonetheless we're grateful that you contacted us as it's very important to the LEGO Group that we continue to receive feedback from consumers, so we can continue to improve. If you would like, you can send the cracked bricks to us so our quality department can have a look. Without having the pieces in front of us, it is more difficult to see what is going on. We will of course send you replacement bricks (if we still make these) so that you aren't missing any pieces. We want to make sure we're doing a good job for you, so you’ll always find the link to a four-question survey in our emails. Please tell us how we did today: LEGO Survey link Please let us know if you need anything else, Barry! Kind regards, Nikki LEGO® Service "but only a tiny fraction of a percentage of all the pieces we produce have this problem" Here i have my concerns. Lego is bought most for children. Parents really don't care for a crack in a brick and will not report. The serious builders get tired in sending the cracked bricks and getting new bricks. You can also read that in this topic. Futhermore, i was talking about new Lego, only assembled once. I didn't wash it ofcourse. Lego can't handle grease. That's gonna explain a lot... Everybody has grease on their fingers. That's natural. About replacing the cracked pieces. That's not gonna solve my problem. It's a structural problem i replied. My Lego was new when it cracked. I also told them i sorted 7 new boxes with 116 pieces cracked. However, i replied with these sentences and attached the pictures. Got no reply anymore. -
Bricks cracking... just from being connected to one another?
Bering replied to Endgame's topic in General LEGO Discussion
116 yes, and then i'm only talking about noticable cracks. Not starting cracks... My new frustration with Lego. :-( And i'm talking about new Lego, never played with, only assembled once. And i skipped the cracked teeth as posted in the picture above, because they will be placed in the mouth, where the cracks are not seen. ;-) These are the cracks i'm talking about. I made a pretty good deal on Bricklink by the way. New parts included postage 16 euro's. But i'm afraid it will solve the problem only temporarily. Sorry to say, but the other 2 will break eventually. Just put it on the shelf for a couple of months and post the picture here. Deal? That would be very handy such a site. For now i would encourage everybody to post pictures here for damaged/cracked Lego. Only by doing that we could bring it to the attention of Lego. I'm from the Netherlands by the way. -
Bricks cracking... just from being connected to one another?
Bering replied to Endgame's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Good point. And if they modify something to solve the problems, how do we know if we order good or bad (old) bricks on Bricklink then? Sorry to hear about your Ice Cream Crack Stand. I had exactly the same problems. This picture should concern Lego i think. -
Bricks cracking... just from being connected to one another?
Bering replied to Endgame's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Sorry to hear about your experiences. I also had pieces cracked the first time i build the model. And i didn't use force. I'm very gentle for my Lego (AFOL). This week i went through 7 sets i bought new. The 4886 house, 5891 house, 6745 house, 4958 walking dino, 4884 wild animals, 4998 stegosaurus and the 4507 dino. Result: 116 pieces with noticable cracks. Ordered new pieces on Bricklink. I will post some pictures later. I only build these one time and put it back in ziplocks in the box. Lego is expensive, but i could live with that if the quality remained the same... I emailed Lego.com about this issue and i will post the feedback here. -
Bricks cracking... just from being connected to one another?
Bering replied to Endgame's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I have the same problem here. I bought the 4998 Stegosaurus and the 4507 Dinosaur a long time ago for example. After years storage in a dark place with constant temperature, nearly all 1x1 white teeth/nails have cracked (see picture). It also happens with 1x1 and 1x2 bricks, as for 1x1 and 1x2 plates and for 1x1 mini slopes. You can't see the crack when you just hold the brick, but when you put it on another brick, the crack shows up. I only build these models several times, in my opinion the quality isn't the main importance here right now. I am willing to spend more money for quality, what i thought i did... The strange thing is, the crack starts from the outside. When a brick is placed onto another brick for a long time (1x2 brick), you can see a bending from the outside. Then you see a small, hardly noticable crack coming up from the place where the pressure is put. Then after more time, the crack is fully noticable and sometimes cracks to the full length of the brick. My theory is, if you show new Lego sets or Mocs for a long time, cracks appear. I think due to the lower quality of the modern Lego. I have had sets from the 80's which i showed for years and they still don't have cracks in them. I hope the quality of Lego will soon be what we were used to. But i also think it is a good thing we post our experiences here. -
But in an older post you told me to skip step 3 regarding the LDD manager. Now i am confused. Maybe if i explain it more clear. For example, i would like to see a stacked view of bricks in LDD from for example the 5891 house. So if i use the LDD file of the complete 5891 house i want it to be shown as stacked bricks. (as in step 4 in LDD manager). I hope you are willing to explain it more clear to me.

Hello all, A question. Is it possible to import bricks from a certain Lego set into LDD? I mean, i have the 5891 house for example and want to make a MOC out of it. I could use the partnumber from Brickset or Bricklink for example, but that is gonna take a while... Is it possible to upload all the bricks at once to LDD? I hope my question is clear enough. ;-) Thanks in advance.

That's a great build. I also want to motorize an old lego locomotive. I have 2 questions. Where did you buy the brown rails and what partnumber is the trainwheel on which you connected the axle?

Thanks for building this great hippie bus. I want to build it myself, but can you tell me which partnumber the grey mirror is?

Just one other question. Does anybody know how the 90 degrees angle is made which i showed by the arrow? I know the use of brackets in Lego but this one has no gap between the bricks. Thanks a lot.

Creating parts list in LDD
Bering replied to Bering's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
You are totally right Duke, the part number does exist, only the text after the partnumber is unknown. The import into Bricklink works perfect and the few unrecognized bricks are easily corrected manually. Thanks!
