  1. I think you built it wrong in on the beam with a cross hole and a pin hole I should've posted more pictures of it, it wasn't clear from that angle The whole axle is stopped by it, so it can't move. The clutch ring stops the grey gears instead of moving them
  2. Nice work Edit: I built it, it really does need an XL motor, that thing is tough
  3. I couldn't find a way to include a differential without making the gearbox too big, so here's a first prototype. It has functions A, B and A and B at the same time. It works fine, though I wouldn't use the separate functions A and B for anything requiring speed, so I'd make all the speeds slow. Only one motor to drive needed, and it it works pretty well, though is kind of crap when using only 1 function at a time because of the clutch gears. Here's a photo, easy to build if you have the right parts and want to experiment with it
  4. I think I have a solution. What if the clutch stops axle A if it is shifted to the right, stops axle B when shifted to the left, and doesn't stop anything when in neutral, activation both A and B? This would require 2 clutch gears, since you can't just "stop" a moving axle, you could just increase the torque enough for the clutch gear to work Edit: I don't know if this could give 3 speeds, but it would allow for 3 functions with one clutch ring. I'll post some pictures if it isn't clear how it works
  5. Another reason to be a garbage collector in the same neighborhood as the lego HQ You don't need to buy pieces when you can get them for free!
  6. Surely there are some people who work as deconstructors and resorters!
  7. Don't sell it yet, every day it becomes more valuable The oldest discontinued lego sets are the most expensive now, aren't they? The price will go up when all these sets are discontinued
  8. NMOC is probably the best one for actually using in posts, but we'd understand if SHITTABAMWIWM or something like that was found embedded in a serious paragraph
  9. You just won my vote. Third photo looks best
  10. @Balrog I think this is the reason, because a Technic gearbox is easier to make, and lego motors go with it. How many gears do you want for your gearbox? For a good design, maybe Sariel's gearbox page can help you out. http://sariel.pl/tag/gearbox/
  11. Gear it up, that way you'll get to faster, so it has more chance of flipping and rolling around. Take the front tire off and see how it drifts if you want to. I am looking forward to the video
  12. Steering via the exhaust? Inventive solution, and I like it, but it is going to be even better if you steer via a roof gear. I don't really imagine anyone operating a lego car by twiddling the exhaust pipes. Plus, you'd have to have a gap for the fingers, and that could be a problem. It's simple but robust, and looks really model-team at the moment. I want to see how it develops, because it will turn out really good if it works.
  13. I heard that even in real life this thing is unstable. Adding an RC motor will probably make it flip over and pull wheelies and drift around! I've always wanted to see this in lego
  14. If TLG is only willing to accept small models, then Technic is pretty much out of the question. The majority of voters only vote for models that look good or contain lots of functions and pieces, and small technic models aren't exactly in the "good looking" category, so the the only models in Technic people vote for are big ones, and if those don't pass the review, then they aren't going to become models. Another issue is that people are submitting branded works, like Land Rovers and Audis and Liebherr excavators. TLG would need to get a contract with those companies to sell those models, or else they might get sued because the model "doesn't represent the true quality" of the real vehicles or something like that. People need to submit things that aren't associated with certain companies Except Shell, of course
  15. The top image is of the chassis (which felt extremely small without the case) and the aesthetic casing in the background. It comes off in 3 pieces, and it is easy to reassemble. The fake engine is connected to a motor on the chassis, so it will still run. Even though it looks like part of the casing, it is part of the main chassis, just it has more connection points in the case, so I took it off that way.
  16. Box Van I see vans on the road every day, but very few in Technic. The humble van is overshadowed by it's big brother, the truck, so builders don't usually see the van as something to build. It is easier to build than a truck, and much more piece efficient. This is a Box Van, a van that has a separate container on the back instead of the container being part of the van itself. My model is made primarily from Unimog pieces, including 3 M-motors and PF lights. I wanted it to have all the functions that a real van has, but have all the functions able to be turned off easily, so I made the V4 fake engine disconnected from the drive motor, meaning less efficiency, but more functionality and ease of use. The headlights are hidden in the radiator "grille", and all the other PF equipment is either in the box or under the vehicle. This model is more robust than other models that I have made, but it also very simple. I tried to replicate the small amount of suspension on vans like this, but in this scale, it is hard to include suspension, because I couldn't fit shock absorbers or anything that would spring back down into the small space. I wanted it to look really good, so I included a fake gearstick and a fake steering wheel, all at the same scale as the model. Fold-down wing mirrors and openable doors are also features. It is a fun little thing to make, and it drives reasonably fast on flat ground. It is a road vehicle anyway. Side View Rear View Underside View Front View Thanks for reading! I will be uploading a photo without it's plastic aesthetics shell, working parts only, soon. Here's the brickshelf folder link for the full-size photos, if you want a better look http://www.brickshel...ry.cgi?f=547199
  17. No, unfortunately not. U-joints are better because they are smaller and more bendy than a real flexible axle would be, but I agree, it could be a nice replacement if you want looks or something to fit though the technic holes.
  18. It reminds me of an F1 car, fast and agile. It even looks like one from certain angles
  19. I saw somewhere that lego pneumatics hoses work well because their colours are accurate. They will be much cheaper then the 19L flex axles Keep in mind that they fit with certain pieces well, such as the T junction and the extender, both in the Unimog.
  20. As for sets to buy, for minimum price, I would choose the lego PF set 8293 and any small set that you think fits your needs best. The total price for this should be around £20-30 (35-50 USD) This price is from the official lego store, third party dealers and ebay should be much cheaper, $20-30
  21. I don't see why the person who invented the real tractor would make it look like that... Wouldn't it be less stable? It's a great representation though, just like the real thing Nice use of the normal lego for the hood and the front
  22. The chrome is awesome on that! It looks really retro, with the big wheel. Just like the real thing
  23. Alasdair, I think the link for timslegos' Trophy Truck in the HoF is wrong, every time I click it, it sends me to the link for the front loader compacter truck. It might just be my computer though, please check if you put in the right link
  24. I really want to see it the flail, liftable with LAs and able to spin the chains around
  25. Lego is better than regular RCs because you can make it how you want it Trouble is it's easier for people to know how it works if there isn't a gearbox or any complicated mechanisms and TLG is designing it for kids who don't care what's inside something as long as it's easy to build and good performance. It's easier to build with more motors and "contains 10 motors" looks good on the box
