  1. I have everything from the first wave, including two LOSS (I made a trans-light blue version), 6 sets signed by the designers, an additional Onua, PoE and PoS for parts and the Hero Pack. The only thing that eludes me is the trans-clear Hau, otherwise I'm pretty much done. Knowing me, by 2nd August I'll have all the Skull Villains too You could go to Bricklink and buy the pieces you need to build Lewa that you don't have, if you want to have a complete set
  2. I'm buying the Indominus Rex set anyway, so no need for me to go to other sources to get the fly in amber. And it will probably fall into the licensed parts category anyway, as will the dinosaurs (but they'd kinda be permanently OOS anyway because they come pre-bagged in the sets and BnP somehow doesn't like stocking those).
  3. What a nice refresh... and with just having put forward the clocks in line with BST, Spring has definitely arrived here! Now for it to stop raining... and then it'll be perfect Side note: the Fabuland squirrel (?) is creeping me out slightly, staring at me like that... (don't worry, I don't mind)
  4. Given that I think it's slated for an August release, we should hear something (from LEGO at least) in late June / early July. Can't wait to see what figures are in that set which I can burn my money on, or what it looks like
  5. May I ask if is this just relevant to the upcoming Chima sets, given you've posted this info in the Chima thread, or is there a chance it applies to all/some other themes also? It'd be a shame if these do not get released at all, if that's even a possibility. I don't think I could bear not being able to have a complete display of Chima minifigures if that happens
  6. I was including Agori, Av-Matoran and Stars when I said that. I never liked them either mainly because of their lack of poseability (I know because I used to make brickfilms with them), and the joints would crack if you breathed on them (Zesk was okay, but that was because it was slightly different to other Agori) But I think I don't like anything with atrocious price/piece ratios anyway, so I'm slightly biased. Also, never realised there was so much love for Aquagon, I thought the general consensus was negative. Guess that was wrong. I don't hate the set, just lack of back armour in CCBS sets really winds me up nowadays I guess. And to be fair, my (modded) Aquagon is still built whereas many other villains have been disassembled. Maybe I should have picked Scarox instead in my original post, but since I wrote a review defending him, I chose not to I guess And I didn't mind the Makuta Mistika when their joints weren't breaking *ducks*. Toa Mistika on the other hand...
  7. Honestly, Aquagon could have been the best for me since his colour scheme and face are so nice, but the fact his entire back was completely bare really ruined it. As was calling simply putting two swords together via a pin as it's main feature Also, only mentioned it as I saw it come up in a lot of other conversations over terrible CCBS sets... I like the set, but not as much as some of the other BA villains. I dare say if Bruizer were made today, I think he'd be a lot better with a proper CCBS-compatible gearbox instead of that bar construction that was flimsy and difficult to use. Anyhow, I do have a bucketload of constraction sets I wasn't that fond of, and I'll probably get a bit of stick for it, but I never really liked the 1.0 to 3.0 HF Heroes, especially the 1.0 ones. Purely for the fact their designs were quite repetitive (used very much the same base) and basic and the build was over far too quickly. I did like the 3.0 animal themed helmets though. Also not really a fan of later Bionicle sets with low (<25) piece counts for the latter reason, apart from Zesk. Well, I like complexity and variety in my builds Strangely, I'm not so bothered by repetitiveness in 2001-2006 Bionicle
  8. I'll be honest: I'm only into these sets for the dinosaurs and other vaguely palaeontological parts (wasn't there a fly in amber in the Indominus Rex set? I need that for my LEGO fossils collection). It's very likely I'll buy and build all the sets on day one, depending on how much I save between now and May (I can't believe it's almost April already, not long to wait now! ), then most of the parts will end up in my Bricklink store when I realise I just don't have the room to display some of the more sub-par builds featured in this line. It's probably the most cost-efficient and enjoyable way of doing it, rather than just going to BL and spending half the set's cost on just the dinosaurs and parts I want. I wasn't a big fan of the simple, overly yellow vehicles in the 2012 Dino line either though and ended up BL'ing some of those dinosaurs because of that. Though I agree in part with Deathleech, I just wish they'd given us more varieties of dinosaur. In a couple of months time, I'll end up with 6 slightly different coloured raptors, which is quite a lot. I would have liked more herbivores, even if it was just a recoloured Triceratops, but I guess LEGO fell into that whole "carnivores are cooler" mantra here
  9. Oh man... I forgot about Bruizer... I take back my condemnation of some of the promo polybags, though having said that, the (purchasable, at least in my country) Hero Factory polys had way better designs than many of the Bionicle ones so... I remember giving that set a rather damning review on S@H a couple of years back (a score of 3/5 from me is basically a fail )... easily the most flawed Constraction set I've ever bought. The mechanism didn't even work that well and I had to mod it extensively for it to even look vaguely like a possessed rock golem, which was what the set was supposed to be. And really, all the metallic bits ought to have been remoulded in standard greys, they just don't look right I kinda liked Speeda Demon though... well, the bike bit anyway. Speeda Demon himself quickly got scrapped for parts. Can never have enough Technic bikes for CCBS figures to ride on anyway
  10. Hmmm... difficult one. I'd be tempted to say some of the small Bionicle polybags. This one comes to mind (where on earth are his hands!?), but especially the 2006 ones. Hero Factory... I know some people would say Scarox or Aquagon. And I'd agree, they weren't very good sets (which is why I modded both extensively). But still, I think they're much better than the 2006 Bionicle polybag sets, especially this one in my opinion. If you're only counting CCBS sets, then I'll say Aquagon. EDIT: If you ask me, the laziest designs: the Bohrok Kal. Worst value: the Ben 10 sets
  11. Thanks. When I built Skull Chiller, I really liked the combo of white extremities with trans-light blue, silver and grey, so naturally I wanted to give Skull Protector a similar colour scheme. I probably would have used all silver, but since I still have Mechan'Rex and the Recon Mech built which are both hogging all the silver parts, I used titanium metallic instead, and turns out it worked really well too. I'm still not 100% happy with the one handed pepper grinder gatling gun design, I wanted a design that wrapped round the hand completely without looking too chunky, but the red and blue Technic axles/pins sticking out are a little jarring for me, but I'm not quite sure how to solve it without having to turn to a saw to cut them down* *Don't worry, I wouldn't do it
  12. Sorry, I said I might have got my forearms mixed up! In that case it looks like this in light bluish grey with this on it. The hands seem to be attached by means of a bar attached to this
  13. Been wanting to make a Protector style build to go with the Summer Skull Villains wave, so here's the fruits of my labour: Skull Protector. Just like their big warrior counterparts, Skull Protectors are basically skeletal, undead Protectors, encased in their thick, heavy armour. This particular Skull Protector is like an undead counterpart to the Protector of Ice. This particular model takes cues from my other Skull Warrior MOC, Skull Chiller, as well as design aspects of the Summer wave Skull Villains. Skull Protector by TheOneVeyronian, on Flickr Skull Protector by TheOneVeyronian, on Flickr As always, credit where it's due: credit to Rayskull for the basic torso build used in this model. And yes, the gatling gun does fire. I wanted to use actual Protector feet, but all the ones I have are currently tied up, so silver Ben 10 feet it was. Come to think if it, I could have used white ones, but I suppose it gives the metal shoe look I desired really. Comments and constructive advice always appreciated
  14. Pretty sure it's this piece with some add-ons (unless I've got where the forearm is mixed up again).
  15. Plus, I can't see those lightsabers being repurposed anyway, so we're unlikely to see those outside SW for that reason also. Hmmm... that Hau really is expensive anywhere outside the US. The prices themselves aren't that bad (I have no qualms dropping $30 or so on it), but it's the shipping (if done through eBay) and import fees that kill it for me as they add more than double to the price... it'll have to be the one gap in my otherwise feasibly complete Bionicle 2015 collection. I heard about something that BZPower might raffle some off, so all is not lost I guess
  16. I like that the whole build is essentially stuffed with some neat NPU's (I didn't even recognise the seashell helmet as being Dragon Bolt's head until somebody else said it). I think the arms and the feet are a bit simple compared to the rest of the build, and I would have liked to see a little bit more medium blue in the build, but otherwise it's pretty good, and a very nice concept. Somehow it doesn't leave much of an impresson on me like some of your other builds do (I can't quite put my finger on why though), but that's just me of course Look forward to seeing what you come up with next
  17. I wasn't talking about the current mask giveaway/contest, I'm aware that's likely a scavenger hunt type thing. How they're doing this current one I don't know, but I was talking about other ways that LEGO might distribute the gold masks. After all, 8 masks, one already given out through a building competition, the remaining 7 will probably be given out in all manner of different ways. The first one was given away in "Battle for the Gold Mask", the second in "Hunt for the Gold Mask", so I think each mask might have it's own type of giveaway if you catch my drift That's the reason they would do it. To boost sales. That's LEGO's logic. Do you or I like them doing things like that? Nope. I never liked their Mr Gold "stunt" anyway. But honestly, I don't think they'll put such a unique item into a set, so I don't think there's any reason to panic about a kid treating a solid gold MoCr like they would any other LEGO piece *shudders at the thought*. The sweepstakes I suggested would likely reduce that chance too, since you have to be an adult to have your own VIP account. Still, I'd prefer contests and quizzes and stuff to give away all the masks, that way it isn't completely down to luck of the draw. But any quizzes they do should be semi-hard at least, not something that 99.9% of people would be able to get right even without a search engine (I'm looking at you, British TV sweepstake competitions ).
  18. I personally hope they don't do this. I remember when they inserted Chrome Darth Vader polybags into some Star Wars sets a few years back, and I vaguely recall stories of people actually weighing the sets to check for weight anomalies that would indicate the polybag's presence, then possibly returning any that didn't contain the polybag. Similar story with Mr Gold from the CMF line, people buying whole boxes then returning them if they couldn't find one through feeling the bags. A solid gold MoCr would probably have enough of a weight diference to be noticed as a weight anomaly compared to the regular plastic MoCr, so scalpers could potentially identify sets with the golden mask by weight alone. Remember that LEGO sets have a specified weight range to fall into (which I think is less than the weight anomaly a gold mask or polybag would cause?). But I think it's unlikely, they would be more likely to do a random insertion with a gold chrome version of a mask or something like that, so it is truly random. I don't know if the Vahki/Bohrok examples you gave fall into that category though, or were they additional masks also? I don't know, I was too young and out of the loop back then to remember such random insertion occurences I see I'm not the only one who's adverse to the idea that the giveaway/contest may only be via Facebook. I don't want to have an account for sites like that, even if there is a golden mask at stake I do wonder if one of the giveaways might be via a LBR/S@H VIP sweepstakes when you make a Bionicle purchase later in the year, maybe enter to win the gold MoCr if you buy Mask Maker vs Skull Grinder and use your VIP card at S@H or a LEGO Store during August, for example. LEGO has done it before with things like winning trips to LEGOLAND and the Inside Tour, I can't see why they couldn't do it with one of the golden masks. Also, it makes it much fairer than random insertion as it eliminates the scalper part, and wouldn't be that dependent on location. Though, having said that, it would restrict it to countries that have the VIP program. If something like this happens, I called it
  19. I don't think it's a matter of shipping them, but rather possibly the country they were produced in (I think). Bagged and fabric parts are, I believe, produced in China, and it's these parts that are unavailable via BnP. But I'm just guessing, I probably think too much. Out of curiosity, how much did you end up paying for your clear Hau? I've been trying to get one for months at a decent price, but it's always my country's absurd and very strict customs charges (not to mention the extraordinarily high shipping that seems to exist on eBay) that limit the maximum I can spend on it to just £15, which I know is impossible You know, I vaguely remembered it's mention right after I posted that, but I'll take that with a huge vat of salt until leaks start to emerge. Also, minifig lightsaber pieces aren't even bound by the licensed part rule, so thinking of it that way, they've got to appear elsewhere. Unless of course you're talking about the Constraction sized lightsabers, in which case that will probably be bound by licensed part rule. As for this most recent Mask giveaway: if the only way of getting involved is via Facebook or Twitter or whatever other social media site like that, then count me out
  20. Yeah, that was back in 2012. That one I mentioned struck me as the oddest, because that piece is only a very vague representation of Hulk's fists (about the only reason why that part would be classed as licensed)... at the same time, I was able to order a bucketload of Captain America's shin guards (red ones) without any problems. So I think it's safe to say what is and what isn't tied to license in Constraction is very... random, to say the least. Even if the licensed parts rule didn't exist, you probably wouldn't be able to buy parts like Smaug's wings from Bricks and Pieces anyway. My rule of thumb is that if the piece comes in a separate bag in the set, Bricks and Pieces likely won't stock it for purchase. Case in mind, the Chima ultrabuild heads. 3 years ago that was different, but that's what it's like nowadays. Don't get me wrong, I'd love an extra pair of Smaug's wings, but £45 for another Smaug off BL just to harvest the wings is something I just can't do. Neither can I bring myself to dismember my own Smaug for his wings to use in a Constraction MOC This is what I'm hoping for, I also doubt they'll be used solely in Star Wars figures and it wouldn't make sense if they didn't stick them in a Bionicle set or three anyway. Stranger things have happened though
  21. That sounds perfectly plausible and I'd be up for that, as long as the shin guards (I think that's the piece you're referring to?) don't turn out to be pointlessly tied to the Star Wars license (reminds me, I was once told by LEGO that this part in lime was tied to license and they couldn't sell it). It'd be a great way to get the part in new colours. I'm hoping they make it in blue and red so I can use them on my sigfigs. The only thing is: those shin guards don't look very Bionicle-esque to me, not that it would bother me much of course
  22. Why was it that as soon as I read "biomechanical dinosaurs", I was reminded of this picture I saw while browsing BS01? If we get biomechanical dinosaurs (or pterosaurs or marine reptiles even) in the future, I will be absolutely all over it (even if they are woefully out of scale or inaccurate), especially since dinosaurs were the main reason I eventually went to study palaeontology at university. Failing that, I'll settle for biomechanical dragons But somehow I think they might be unlikely. I've no idea where Bionicle 2016 will take us next to be honest
  23. Bought quite a few Technic parts off Bricklink recently as my Technic tray was rather depleted of the elements I use frequently in MOC's. And tomorrow I'll be putting in an order for a Technic Street Motorcycle and Iron Man vs Ultron (and a couple of keychains) from S@H. I was supposed to buy them 2 weeks ago with my last big purchase, but I didn't have the extra £50 at the time Oh well, may as well sneak in another order between getting paid and end of double VIP!
  24. I really appreciate all the work that has gone into making this comparison, and was an absolutely fascinating read from start to finish. I can really see how far the Slave I design has progressed from those early days (I can't get over how bad 7144 looks, only exaggerated by the superior later versions, but since the first curved slopes that are now almost a staple and essential brick in starship building were still at least a year away, I can almost forgive it. Almost). I personally like 75060 the best, but I might be biased given that it is the only Slave I model that I own. And it's version of Boba Fett is easily the best for me. The only thing that feels incomplete though is the lineup of Fett minifigures. I completely understand why that's the case since we're only comparing figures from System scale Slave I sets, so in that respect it is complete, so nothing to do there really Good job though, I'd love to see more retrospective comparisons like this
  25. Nice find! Nice to see the 2 raptors are indeed slightly different in colouration and print from those in 75917 - but is it just me or does the one named Charlie look ever so similar to the green raptor from the Dino 2012 line? I don't think it is, but it's a little difficult for me to tell with the small pictures Once some nice high-res pictures of it come out I'll be able to put it all against those leaked pics I have stored on my computer for reference. Anybody know what the piece count might be? Looks quite small for a ~£35-£40 set (I'm just estimating that from the US price, I can't remember the UK price), but given the other raptor set is going to be an eye-watering £50 here - it shouldn't really be a surprise. Now what's happened to the Coelophysis? Now we can see it's not part of Raptor Escape, it must be part of a polybag, D2C or just a false run to trick everybody (who knows nowadays) now
