Beware when the demons in the shadows come to light... and they look like this... I've had this MOC knocking about for a while, and finally got some decent enough light to try and take pictures of it. Raahajjak is a demonic shadow beast with 4 arms (2 being vestigial, adds to the creepiness). I wanted to build something that was almost entirely black, bestial, shadowy and scary for a while, and this was what resulted: Raahajjak, Bestial Shadow by TheOneVeyronian, on Flickr Raahajjak, Bestial Shadow by TheOneVeyronian, on Flickr Raahajjak, Bestial Shadow by TheOneVeyronian, on Flickr Some of you might think this MOC looks very familiar - that's because it is based upon Raahhiju the Marauder, one of my BFTGM entries. Ignore the occcassional red, blue or dark grey - those can't really be helped as I didn't have the pieces in black. Comments and the like are appreciated. Please excuse the photography - I wanted to try and capture the shadowy vibe by photographing it on a black background - you can see how well that turned out Additional pics on a white background at request, though hopefully you can see all the detail in these pics. Hope you enjoyed looking at this MOC EDIT: Typo corrected.

2015 Speed Champions Sets - Rumours and Discussion
TheOneVeyronian replied to CM4Sci's topic in LEGO Town
Oh my goodness. Now I want a P1 in blue, my favourite colour. If only the stickers were printed on clear backgrounds and the canopy wasn't printed, I'd go rooting around for the blue bricks needed right now... Lucky him is all I'll say. Well, I could always cut the yellow out of the stickers I suppose, but my hands are nowhere near steady enough for it -
Bionicle Toa Alternate Builds

Fair enough, you have a valid point. I use the Breakout armour a lot for unarmoured muscular biomechanical beings (with the custom torso design linked in my last post) so I keep a massive stock of them, and I guess Tahu just wanted to show off his muscles the day I took a pic of him Jokes aside, I probably wouldn't have changed Tahu's original armour but an MOC needed it where Breakout armour wouldn't have worked. I took that photo of Tahu a while ago and it's since been reverted to mostly original state anyway (as has Lewa) Anyway, I have got some others to post that have minor modifications (like an Onua with all silver), it depends on when I have time to take decent photos -
I haven't seen that particular prelim art, but there might be similar thinking behind that change indeed. Though you do get red skies iin the real world, so the reason for the edit may not be as clear-cut as just "too scary". I agree. The Skull Villains for the most part look scarier than anything in G1 Bionicle. The masks especially, with their almost demonic and certainly very sinister appearance. And since you brought up Barraki (the creepiest of the "villains" in G1), I always regarded Takadox as pretty scary and creepy myself (in fact, didn't LEGO label him as such?). Didn't stop me from buying 6 of him though, I love sets that push that boundary of creepiness. It's likely I'll be picking up multiple copies of many of the Skull Villains

I think that's the main reason why LEGO don't do trans-red shells - it's a very blood-like colour, and blood ultimately relates to gore and I don't think LEGO wants to touch that territory in case it gets complaints from an over-cautious parent or something like that. Well, that's what I think the reason is, as stupid as it might sound. I agree. Not to mention... wouldn't a lighter shade of trans-red technically turn it to some shade of trans-pink, an entirely different colour altogether? Think about it in terms of, let's say, mixing paint, you would use white paint if you wanted to make a colour lighter. Primary or bright red mixed with even a little white generates a pink colour. Dark red generates more of a plum colour. An RGB colour chart (available in many photo and art apps) illustrates this But anyway... my point is, I think trans-neon orange is sometimes too bright and lively, especially on some villains and can spoil any dark and creepy vibe they have about them (exception being if they have, say, an elemental affinity with Fire or something like that). In fact, I'm tempted to see what LOSS looks like with trans-red. Might be time to dust off the LDD I have of him from when I did my planned mods... Anywho... back on topic I guess.

LEGO doesn't like using trans-red in CCBS But given trans-red wasn't even used in constraction before the ddawn of CCBS that much (aside from pieces used as eyes and brain stalks), we're unlikely to see the colour ever being used in CCBS. Which is a shame, I'm still waiting for true trans-red shells. I was bored of trans-neon orange by 2012, and trans-red would look so much better in many cases in CCBS sets. Something about trans-red makes it look so much more sinister than trans-neon orange

Bionicle Toa Alternate Builds
TheOneVeyronian replied to Logan McOwen's topic in LEGO Action Figures
Erm... and the piston shells don't look at all robotic? Not to mention that they are technically robots of some kind? "Too robotic" does seem a bit of an odd criticism in that context But the Breakout armour was only used since I had to lift the original red torso shell from Tahu for another model (and I didn't want to BL another one). And considering I had bought a few Iron Man sets, I had plenty of the Breakout armour to replace it with, which I think looks better. I like the muscle look it gives. But if you're referring to the way it tapers, then good point. I do have a custom torso design (used on the figures here, for example) that eliminates that problem, but it wouldn't work on Tahu anyway since it only works with a second torso plugged into the back and it wouldn't be able to accommodate a gearbox In fact, I would have given Lewa the same Breakout armour as LewiMOC has done (it actually looks better on him, given he has a slim physique), I just forgot... -
Jurassic World 2015 Rumors & Discussion
TheOneVeyronian replied to adotnamedstud's topic in LEGO Licensed
If you're talking about the Gallimimus polybag (I want to refuse to call it that ), then it's extremely unlikely that it will be sold at retail (outside being a pre-order). But who knows, there might be another more generic JW poly coming. We normally don't know of their existence until a retailer publishes them on their website, or they're found in stores, or if LEGO puts up their instructions (which you can see via Brickset as it automatically trawls LEGO's instructions cache for new instructions, usually every 24 hours or so). You never see polybags or retailer exclusives at Toy Fairs by the way Anyway, I hope the polybag with the dinosaur does become available in the UK one way or another. I'd hate to miss out on it, major inaccuracies aside.- 1,412 replies

Not exactly, you're thinking of BFTGM, and that was stated at $120 (though that was increased to $180 as they ended up including Protectors) I'm talking about what LEGO have stated the gold mask values as in the current Mask Hunt contest (according to The Brick Fan). This was the paragraph from mentioned site where I got the $160 figure from: Maybe it is just the value of the gold as it is nowadays, it's not nearly as expensive as it used to be a year ago Anyway... That would give you the maximum chance of one of yours being picked in theory, and the best option of keeping your choices open. Though coming up with 36 unique entries might be difficult for some. I wonder if the competiton will say that only one of your entries can win? As it sounds at the moment, it sounds entirely possible to win in all 6 elemental categories, one every week, or even all 36 winning entries could be by the same person (though what's the chances of that, one in a million or even more?). I imagine LEGO would want to restrict the amount of times one person can win a Toa set to 1, like they did with BFTGM, right? I couldn't see anything mentioned relating to that, so thought I'd put it out there.

The $2,000 value I recalled was from LEGO's BFTGM rules (not from actual sales of similar objects): And at the time I (and many others) thought that was the golden Skull Spider mask's material value. But maybe not. Maybe that value was inflated by LEGO? Either way, it's an interesting anomaly.

Jurassic World 2015 Rumors & Discussion
TheOneVeyronian replied to adotnamedstud's topic in LEGO Licensed
I echo the sentiments of others, that is so far away from Gallimimus it is unbelievable. From my palaeontological knowledge, Gallimimus literally means "bird mimic" or "chicken mimic" (I've heard both used) and has a toothless bird-like beak and feathers (it would never have been coloured like that?). The only plus point I can think of is the Coelophysis mould is pretty much on minifigure scale for the size of a Gallimimus (the mould was far too large for the former anyway), but otherwise looks almost nothing like it. While Gallimimus was indeed omnivorous, it'd struggle to eat the turkey leg left for it in the trap with no teeth, would it not? Geeky rant over At least now we know the origin of that elusive mould. I'll still be trying to get hold of this polybag (I won't consider it a Gallimimus though, no way), even if it means pre-ordering the game then selling the game on (I don't have any of the games consoles it's available on), however I'm concerned that this won't become available in the UK. Has all other pre-order bonuses become available in the UK one way or another? I can't remember as I don't normally pay attention to these things for many reasons. Ha ha, maybe they should have. Except that Compsognathus is even smaller than Coelophysis. But even that would have been more accurate than passing the mould off as a Gallimimus- 1,412 replies

I know it was a joke I just wanted an excuse to use the rock related joke in return Anyway, from reading around on various news sites, to clear up any confusion there seems to be regarding the contest, it sounds like the top entry for each element in a week will get a corresponding element Toa. There will be 36 top entries, 6 for each element, 1 of each element is picked in eah entry period. Then they'll choose one Fire, one Water, one Jungle, one Stone, one Earth and one Ice face out of those 36 (remembering there are 6 of each in the final 36), and those will win the corresponding elemental solid gold mask. Brick Fanatics I think explains it best. Interestingly, the 14 karat gold masks seem to be each valued at $160 (or so I read via The Brick Fan anyway, am I reading it wrong? Don't seem right, I thought the gold masks were worth $2,000+ each? )

Bionicle Toa Alternate Builds
TheOneVeyronian replied to Logan McOwen's topic in LEGO Action Figures
Your Lewa is really nice. I like the use of the Ben 10 barbs, which I wish I had more of but they're just so rare and expensive in any decent quantity on BL I may as well share some pics of my modified Toa (which I've already shown a while back in the Bio2015 thread), not as deeply modified as yours but still relevant: Lewa Master of Jungle Shoulder Modification by TheOneVeyronian, on Flickr Lewa Master of Jungle Shoulder Modification (construction close-up) by TheOneVeyronian, on Flickr 70787 Tahu mod by TheOneVeyronian, on Flickr I will share more as I modify the other Toa. I've a feeling that, come July/August, there'll be a thread for modified Skull Villains too. May as well. I'll be happy to start such a thread off closer to the time if there's enough interest -
Nope, not at all. I'd never imply anybody was crazy, I was just seeing people comment about real life rock formations looking like classic masks and how I liked that. After all we geologists are gneiss people* *Sorry, couldn't resist. Geologist's joke. Look up "gneiss" if you don't get it ;o)

Sorry, just to clarify that I don't hate social media at all. Believe me, I used to have accounts on many of Facebook's predecessors and used them almost all the time, then something happened and now I'm put off general social media for life (aside from Flickr, which I just use as a picture host). I much prefer specialised communities like this anyway where it's not about popularity... but that's enough on the subject, I shouldn't have really brought it up in the first place EDIT: Mandate managed to sum up some of my thoughts pretty well. Besides, I don't go out much, and my only camera that I can connect to my computer/Internet is too cumbersome to carry around for general use anyway, and even if I did carry it round, I'd completely forget to look for faces in stuff And people talking about seeing masks in rock formations? I absolutely love it, seeing as I studied geology and love the Bionicle masks. Almost makes me want to flick through my field trip pictures looking for faces in the rocks I took pictures of myself

I notice that they're not giving away one of the golden masks in this contest, but six of them. One for each corresponding element. Interesting, I wasn't expecting the six Toa masks to be given away in this competition. The more I read this, the more it seems that I want to join in and go looking for faces in things, but I know I can't since I dislike such social media (personal reasons) and will never use it So after this, there'll only be the golden Mask of Creation left to give away, right? I wonder what sort of competition or sweepstake LEGO will adopt for that one? If they are giving it away of course.

Ah... the catch for me is "Facebook, Instagram or Twitter". I have no desire to join any of those sites at all (no, not even for a solid gold mask ), so count me out, but still sounds like a very interesting and innovative contest. Plus it's pretty fair and doesn't necessarily rely on talents. Not that I'd be very good at it anyway, I am terrible with seeing faces in things (aside from the famous vase/two faces illusion of course). Unless it's seeing a face in the front end of a car, then I'm world class

I agree, Enter the Serpent is a nice set. I was pleased especially with how they managed to integrate the shooters so that they fired when the snake skulls are pushed down, yet blend into the aesthetics reasonably well (none of that awkward stick-out bars stuff that mars plenty of other sets that also use the small spring shooter). I only got the set for Chen and Kapau'rai, but I ended up liking the set a lot and even gets one of the prime display locations in my room. And for once, the UK RRP of the set (£40) stacks up really well against the US RRP ($60) My only real bugbear is that it is smaller than the relatively high piece count would suggest, but then again plenty of sets suffer from that anyway. I still keep thinking "how on earth has this used more than 500 bricks..."

Strange... I got a confirmation email on Friday morning for an order placed Friday morning. But I don't always get confirmation emails either. Sometimes the order can take a few hours just to appear in Order Status. Normally, they would have shipped the same day if I bought items in the morning (they were really good at sending out orders in my experience), but S@H has become slow (in the shipping sense, but site slowness counts too) even for small orders where everything was listed as available... I knew I should have just made yet another trip to Westfield instead Also, am I the only one that hates the recently implemented S@H terminology? "In Warehouse" is such an annoyingly broad term - would it hurt for them to implement tracking similar to Amazon's instead, where it gives you an indication of how far along your order is during the shipping preparation, and also adjusts according to the courier's tracking as well so it only says "Complete" once delivery is confirmed? (right now, it marks an order Complete at point of shipment,, which doesn't make an awful lot of sense ) I think this will be the last time I use S@H... unless something crops up that I just can't get at a LEGO Store or regular retail, it's purely PaB/BnP, or it gets it's act together And to highlight how bad S@H has got, I've only placed 3 orders for sets at S@H this year (not counting BnP), last year I placed more than twice as many in the same timeframe. And staff at Westfield London LEGO Store are starting to recognise me now I've diverted over 75% of what I normally spend at S@H to them

For somebody who doesn't like to play YouTube videos (for the pitiful broadband allowance I have anyway, most of it is quickly taken up by program and picture downloads), would somebody please explain what the contest is (or the content of the video in words)? From what I've read, sounds like you have to take pictures of mask-like shapes in objects or something like that? I'm guessing you have to have an account on Facebook or Twitter or something like that in order to enter, in which case count me out, but still I'm genuinely curious. Doesn't sound like anything I was expecting, and whatever it is, kudos to LEGO for coming up with something that isn't just "like this page to enter" (or retweet or whatever)

If you had asked me this 8-10 years ago, I would have said I only concern myself with Bionicle. I got into it seriously in 2005, and haven't missed buying many constraction sets since (I believe I only missed Irnakk and Kardas, but I BL'ed the latter some time ago). Nowadays, my commitment to themes is very extended, but Bionicle will always be the thing I aim to get all the sets to first. If it matters, I also commit myself to collecting Chima, Ninjago, Jurassic World, Mixels, bigfigs, moulded animals, some Star Wars, Speed Champions, dragons, anything CCBS... too much basically

What was the worst construction set?
TheOneVeyronian replied to Bigger Fish's topic in LEGO Action Figures
You, my friend, have made a powerful enemy... Nah, just kidding In defence of Good Guy '06, he managed to get in all the major anatomical parts, including something that can pass for hands. The more I think about it, the more I think Good Guy '08 is worse now, as much as the helicopter jetpack was neat, I just can't get over the fact he has no hands But I guess it's unfair to judge tiny little promos on poor design, so that will be the last time I mention them. That's another problem I have with Bruizer... what was wrong with having a functional CCBS arm? Today's Bionicles can prove you can have both poseable and functional arms -

My mistake... I knew squirrel didn't seem quite right but at the time, that was all I could think of! -
That's certainly very possible. I'm a regular Bricksetter (or at least used to be, I haven't been so active there recently), and when the LEGO Movie was released, there was a sudden surge of signups to both the main site and the forum (these statistics speak for themselves). Same could be said for here and all other major LEGO fan sites. More people into LEGO, more people want LEGO sets, and it seems LEGO is struggling to meet demand, with OOS labels coming ever more common on S@H, S@H not working properly due to sheer weight of traffic, and popular sets selling out the same day as general release. Not to mention decent sales in my neck of the woods are increasingly difficult to come across. Hence my "buy it as soon as possible" policy, that way I don't miss anything I want It's possible that, with so many other themes to produce sets for which might be more popular than Chima, LEGO may have made those a priority, thus scaling Chima back. "Production issues" is a vague description, it could mean almost anything, from problems with necessary moulds to something as simple as demand for other sets, and the factories might not be able to hold the capacity required to make the Chima sets also. From Legomilk's post, I'd bet that the sets are still coming out, they might just be late (August instead of June, or January instead of August for example), or just available in a certain region. But given the sets were displayed at London, Nuremberg and New York, it'd be silly for LEGO to then not release them in either Europe or America. But stranger things have happened, so nothing can be ruled out just yet. I do want to finish the job I started over 2 years ago and get every Chima fig though
