[SoNE Freebuild 7.2] - The Flying Rays
goatman461 replied to Kodan Black's topic in Nar Eurbrikka Archive
Great job. The story perfectly suits the purpose of SoNE, showing the day-to-day of the characters. It has great detail (especially about the droid and the hat) and shows the proper tone, IMHO. I'm really looking forward to seeing how your builds evolve over the next few episodes. I'm not crazy about the arrow on the floor or the "four" on the right. The "four" on the left seems to fit into the wall much better. Otherwise, I think you did a great job incorporating the red/white striped bricks, the stingray/blue flags (...which is amazing), and the blue stripe in the wall. Don't be afraid to leave out the base to save on bricks. If you use the right surface, it will blend right in to the scene. Also, great job on the photography, but try not to cut out portions of the bricks in the editing process (as in the last pic). I do hope you get some fleshies for Christmas; those yellow heads are horrendous. Right MKJoshA? -
Thanks guys. Hopefully I didn't write Goatm too much into a corner.

Those trees are great. They give it a unique feel. Glad to see your guy is locked up as he should be.

[SoNE Episode VII] At the Table-Before the Storm
goatman461 replied to Commander Beltar's topic in Nar Eurbrikka Archive
Have you played with GIMP at all? With the extended deadline, you should have enough time to delete the background and do a full blown edit on one of the past scene shots. This may be an easy way to give it an outside feel (by adding in a background image) without more building and re-shooting. Glad you liked the previous input. Feel free to PM me if you want more help of have any questions. -

Shadows of Nar Eurbrikka — Introduction and Discussion

I'm doing something similar, a follow up to my episode build. There's no restrictions on "when" your freebuild must take place, so build away -

Most of my final shots and story are up. Let me know what y'all think. There will be some small adjustments to coincide with BEAVeR and Tyrus's builds. @MKJoshA - Do you have a feel for how much participation we're going to get this time? And when are we going to see your nice new Imperial signature? -
[SoNE Episode VII] At the Table-Before the Storm

Very clean and sharp looking builds. I do have a few complaints and suggestions if you're open to them. On the present scene. I'm not sure what your supply is like, but what about building up that wall and dangling a tie fighter above the table? It's hard to get a sense of where they are and there is not much to look at (which makes it look clean, but underwhelming). I'm not a big fan of the legs to that table, which don't even need to show but should look a bit sturdier if they do. The door and the wall look great, but why is the door partially open? Maybe have a mechanic working on the stuck door (because somebody stuck a penny in it or something). On the past scene. This is another build that is very clean and neat, but I can't get a good sense of where they are. If they are inside, I think you need more walls to give it a closed-in feeling; maybe just a large window where you can dangle a micro ship behind it. If you're short on parts, you could add some kind of ship next to them to take up the space. That computer thing is great, but the exposed anti-studs underneath are distracting. Adding a couple of 1x1 round plates should greeble it up enough. As for the story, I don't really understand why a Colonel wouldn't find out what is on the memory card that the clone was so keen to protect; kind of wasteful. I hope I wasn't too critical and that something I wrote might be somewhat helpful. This is a great build and I'm glad you're on our side. -
The transition between the orange slopes on the top looks cool. I'm interested in why you switched between lbg and dbg in the greebling instead of keeping a more consistent palette. Mainly I mean the dbg clip on the back, the lbg door rail plate on the side, and the dbg cone and round thing below it.

I'll be editing in GIMP so I can delete whatever background is in my shot and add any color I want. You should definitely try out GIMP, it's free and pretty easy. http://www.gimp.org/downloads/ The overall arrangement is definitely something that I can easily adjust. I'll try some different arrangements to even out the sides once I get the N-1 hung up and in the shot. Thank you.

Because it is fairly large and in several pieces I don't want to take it outside for better lighting right now; it would just take too long. But I'll try to help out. Working clockwise from the top, those are STAPs along the back, a droideka and a fountain, a smaller scale Elder head, lots of towns people fleeing into the grass (grass to come soon), dying ancestor, young Goatm, and crashed speeder. I plan to do a second shot without all the craziness of the droid invasion to better display the build instead of the story. If y'all see any big problems, let me know. I get anxious about the deadline and my opportunities for lighting, so I'll likely shoot it this week. Would love to hear from some of the expert Rebels about how to improve this. Also, this seems minor but any suggestions on background? I'd like those STAPs to stand out but also want to compliment the building and make it look like Naboo.
-
Naboo/Past WIP scene edited. I'd really appreciate some criticisms. My plan is to string up the N-1 for the left front of the scene. Sorry about the bad lighting, but it is just a WIP. (that droideka next to the fountain will be standing in the final version) Final pics of this scene by Thursday at the latest, so let me know fast.

[SoNE Episode VII] Always Be Ready
goatman461 replied to Kodan Black's topic in Nar Eurbrikka Archive
Great job. I know how hard it can be to build with 20 year old parts, but you've got some excellent part usage and techniques. Lighting could use some work; try taking it outside on a cloudy day. Also, good job keeping that naked guy strategically covered up. -
Rebel Infantry Transport by goatman461, on Flickr Peaceful citizens of the outer rim feel the wrath of the entrenched Rebel forces. An Imperial campaign has cornered a small Rebel contingent on this agrarian planet. Starving, the Rebel forces attack a nearby farmer bringing his harvest in from the field. The Rebels load their stolen goods into an RIT, Rebel Infantry Transport. Two forward cannons and heavy armor make this ship ideal for smashing through Imperial blockades and avoiding aerial attacks. The starving Rebels hurriedly load their transport while Imperial officers watch on, delighted in what they see. This small band of Rebels is part of a larger propaganda campaign orchestrated by the ISB. While the Rebel base could be destroyed at any time, starving the Rebels and forcing them to attack local farmers for food will provide invaluable footage for news broadcasts across the galaxy. RIT - Hologram by goatman461, on Flickr Please judge the first build; the hologram scene is just extra. Thank you BEAVeR for the tutorial (although I did deviate slightly). C&C always welcome.

When all seems to be lost, ISB Agent Goatm An 46-1 dives into action. Lord Tyrus fires furiously into the overwhelming Rebel forces to provide cover fire. Officer VeR is in position to take out the Rebel's main weapon. As he blindly leaps over the edge of the icy gorge, Goatm quickly assesses the situation below... A Rebel officer presents an obvious target, but Goatm will need to save his blaster for the Rebels outside of his hammer's reach. The taun taun mounted Rebel will need to be removed from a distance, the gorge is too tight to outmaneuver the beast. Officer VeR still hasn't taken out the cannon; this could be a problem... Past scene... Goatm's favorite blood-stained hammer has been with him from the very beginning on Naboo, his families adopted planet. Goatm's father, Kalib Ritter von An had fled to Naboo with Goatm's mother when her father refused their marriage. She was royalty and he a lowly knight with a dubious past. On Naboo, Kalib joined the Naboo Royal Space Fighter Corps and worked as a carpenter. He regularly grumbled about the royalist system, managed economy, and interventionist politics of the Naboo elites. As Goatm grew older, he apprenticed under his father and was soon trusted with the sale and delivery of his father's creations. Goatm's father was too hard-nosed to politely deal with the entitled customers who desired his products, but Goatm had a humble tact with the clients that proved very useful to the family's prosperity. This continued on into Goatm's teenage years, until the Separatist invasion in 32 BBY. Kalib was quite sympathetic to the Separatist cause until the Trade Federation blockade. Despite being a former knight and volunteer pilot, Kalib An was a stanch believer in the non-aggression principle. While these Separatists should be free to leave the Republic, they had no right to enforce a blockade. Kalib prepared his family for the worse. Their home was already on the edge of a large conservation zone and Kalib had secured a tunnel exiting there. This was done early on in case the family had been found by Goatm's vengeful grandfather. On the day of the invasion, Goatm was sent into town to purchase more supplies with the remaining currency and wares the family had. Few on Naboo took the blockade seriously and Kalib's furniture sold at a premium because of the lack of off-world competition. Goatm hurried home as the invasion began. His mother and sister would already be into the tunnel and Kalib would be heading for his N-1 to fight back the invaders. Kalib didn't make it to his starfighter. Their home was swarming with droids. Apparently the Naboo government had been collecting records on its citizens for a long time and the data was not as secure as the bureaucrats thought. Kalib was quickly identified and targeted as a possible threat to the droid occupation. Goatm rushed in to see Kalib dying in front of their home; hammer in one hand. His father couldn't speak. He just bled out and died. Goatm would go on to lead a cell in the Naboo Resistance, tracking down collaborators and dispatching them with extreme brutality, often with his father's hammer. Goatm's mother and sister shunned Goatm for what he had become and once the occupation was over, they returned to his grandfather's court and Goatm embarked for new adventures in the Outer Rim. The story continues... Rescue Mission by Commander Beltar Med Evac by goatman461 1/5/15 Edited to include links and bonus pic showing the collaboration with BEAVeR.

Sounds great. I think BEAVeR can add you to our ongoing PM; we can work out details there. -
This looks great. I hope to take a stab at building it with real bricks in the future (and curse you the whole time for using fake bricks)

Shadows of Nar Eurbrikka — Avenger (Imperial Headquarters)

That's the present (16x16) scene for this Episode. No specific level of skills required, just white bricks and a willingness to collaborate on the story. -
Shadows of Nar Eurbrikka — Avenger (Imperial Headquarters)
goatman461 replied to Brickdoctor's topic in Nar Eurbrikka Archive
Does anybody want to collaborate with BEAVeR and I? We're doing a scene where Agent An and Officer VeR have crash-landed on a Hoth-like planet and are trapped in a temple built into the side of a cliff. Our build will split up the temple and cliff, but we need one or two more imperials (preferably pilots) to be present at our scene. We thought that somebody could build the crash-landing in the snow. Any takers? Ideally you could account for our minifigs and we could create yours (or just throw a helmet on it). Here's some WIPs of the cliff scene, which would not need to be incorporated into the crash landing. The one on the left is the latest version -

both, sometimes i come up with what i think is a cool looking greeble technique and base an entire build on that, other times i just throw some stuff together at the last minute because everybody loves greebles. my last freebuild evolved from those dbg flags on the back end of the ship -
[ SoNE Episode VII ] - Dark Secrets - The CODE
goatman461 replied to Pointblank's topic in Nar Eurbrikka Archive
I feel like there is a lot of random part usage going on here. For example, the black tiles and railing on the stadium, whatever is in front of the red droid, the red fabric, the netting, the gates, the brown weapons rack, and the miscolored slopes on the rock wall. There are also some parts that could be covered up to prevent eye soars, like the wall behind the dark troopers and the technic bricks along the base. I also think your drone could use a redesign. Sorry for all the negativity, but it is what I would want from c&c on a WIP. If you have the episodes, go back to the end of season 4 of the clone wars (I think that was when all the Mandalor scenes were) and look at the architectural features in their buildings. Some of the chandeliers and whatnot were pretty interesting. As for your room, I actually think it's a little big for military quarters on a ship. I think you should cut it in half (at least) and include other corridors and rooms. You could make that bed fold back into the wall (Star Wars Murphy bed style) if you have the extra space behind it; this could also allow you to put in a cool door or other storage. A lot of your lighting looks great. Just make sure we get some clear shots of the entire build so we can get a better idea of what we are looking at. I hope I wasn't too critical.- 22 replies

Glad to see you getting out of your dark age. I would suggest limiting the size of your build so you can use the vegetation more densely. Also, don't be afraid to get away from building a ship up from a single flat base. Good start. Keep it up.
