Shadows of Nar Eurbrikka — Introduction and Discussion
goatman461 replied to Brickdoctor's topic in Nar Eurbrikka Archive
Keep I mind, because Imperials go everywhere, the rebels are slightly more limited in terms of scenes. Just because we're stuck in Tie fighters, doesn't mean we can't build a scene inspecting a bounty hunter ship or blowing up a rebel base. The rebels do get more options in terms minifig customization, though. -
[SoNE Freebuild] 7.1 - Alderaan System - Dark Trooper Base
goatman461 replied to goatman461's topic in Nar Eurbrikka Archive
Thank you everybody for the great comments I'm flattered that you picked my post as your first comment; thank you for leaving "negative" criticism, as well. It stopped abruptly because I ran out of bricks and didn't shoot at a better angle to work with the walls I had. I had similar problems shooting the mechs at the right angle to get all the details in that I wanted while not stopping it abruptly. Ultimately, as usual, I got lazy and just posted what I had. Future adventures are coming soon. One more scene to shoot before I post it.- 9 replies

You better not quit SoNE. What would Markus's stormtrooper do without you? Besides, rushed or not, you are seriously raising the bar with these builds.

[SoNE VI] Mon Calamari - Something smells fishy
goatman461 replied to goatman461's topic in Nar Eurbrikka Archive
Sorry about that. I set a lot of my pics of flickr to "private" to help clean up some of the clutter, but it did this to a lot of my posts. I've since set them back to public, but still not showing up here. I guess I'll have to go back and edit every entry so that they show up again. I'll do that ASAP. I apologize for the mess in the meantime- 16 replies

If you base it on the available engine and windscreen sizes, 1/2 scale sounds about right to get the appropriate proportions. The Ghost might be a good reference.
-
I really like the Rebel ship. Attaching the full scale build to the backside of the micro-scale build might have been cool. Any plans to do the Rebel ship in full scale?

A top and within a spinning asteroid in the system that once housed the peaceful planet of Alderaan, a secret Imperial base receives its newest visitors. The AT-ST sentry once again turns its attention outward, ready at all times for Rebel incursions or hapless miners who inspect its home asteroid too closely. The asteroid base survives its tumultuous environment through the combined effort of a shield generator and reversed tractor beam buried in the rock. The base’s two docking bays are currently full; one holding the new visitors; the other holding their payment, a scrubbed Lambda-class T-4a shuttle. The new visitors are a combination of Imperial officers and smugglers led by ISB officer Goatm An. Using their Nubian light freighter, the crew bypassed Imperial, Rebel, and cartel checkpoints, blockades, and scavengers to make it across countless systems to their current port. Their contact on the base is a somewhat familiar face. After their run in on Bothawui, Goatm soon discovered that his (h)armless friend, Rom Mohc, was a renowned engineer and driving force of the Empire’s Dark Trooper project. The program’s current configuration is housed at this facility and is jealously guarded by aging and deteriorating clone troopers. Those troopers that are left completely rely on the lab and work of Mohc to stay alive; as such, they are mortally bound to the base and his current project. Goatm greets Moch as his crew unloads the supplies. Goatm’s unorthodox crew has been hand-picked for missions such as this because of their unique self-interest. Unlike the countless cadets coming out of the Imperial academy, these men are loyal only to themselves, a quality Goatm can appreciate and exploit. Bay 2 by goatman461, on Flickr Once their business is complete, Mohc shows Goatm his latest prototypes. The first two prototypes are of little interest to Goatm. Droids; mindless automatons designed to follow orders no matter what. But the Phase III prototype has promise. Though too big for any kind of real battle in space, the potential for this beast on land was staggering. Goatm politely logged his compliant about the size and its practicality fighting through the narrow corridors of a Rebel or Imperial cruiser. Mohc agreed and they concluded their business. Thank you for checking out my latest freebuild. C&C are always welcomed and greatly appreciated. I would only like the docking bay judged. Thank you in advance.

Shadows of Nar Eurbrikka — Avenger (Imperial Headquarters)
goatman461 replied to Brickdoctor's topic in Nar Eurbrikka Archive
I think all of these episodes have come down to the number of participants. In previous episodes part of the scoring was directly based on the number of entries, but, even in the last episode, it all comes down to who can get the most builders. Hopefully the next episode will not be that way because the Empire is always going to be disadvantaged in terms of recruiting (not as many people want to play the bad guy). Not much we can do to bring up the numbers besides recruit, recruit, recruit. And better builds will lead to more attention/interest in SoNE. -

I don't think submitting true WIP entries in the forum is a good idea because it will clutter the presentation of the builds. Forum entries should be (near)finished projects, otherwise there is a lot of confusion about the pictures being referenced in the comments which can go on for several pages depending on the discussion. It's too messy and takes away from the final presentation of the build. The WIP status is great for minor corrections and making sure that the builds adhere to the rules, but not big changes. Visitors won't necessarily want to see how the sausage is made. As far as the tactics of a secret WIP thread/PM/flickr group, the Rebels seem to be very good at organizing there submissions and timing them properly. It does not help us, in any of the episodes, to show them what we're working on so that they can counter it. Also, any closed group would have to be completely voluntary, we won't force you to participate -

FYI if you want to nerd out on the numbers... Our average against the Rebels wasn't too bad. They averaged 7.0851 and we averaged 6.7955 per build. That means that 4 more average builds would have won this. Alternatively, over half our builds (25) needed another point each to win. They also had 6 "10s" that helped bolster their lower scoring builds, while we had a lot of "7s" and only 2 "10s." I don't like losing, so as far as improving in the future... I know that I need to take more time on my builds and definitely work on my photography. I think a WIP group PM would help me by allowing for more feedback on the builds and the presentation, I don't want to bombard others with my WIPs though, so a purely voluntary group would be nice. Or several groups so builders can choose their level of involvement. What do y'all think? How could your builds improve or make them more desirable to the judges? Where can we help our teammates develop their skills and/or come up with more interesting designs? What can bring Ninja Nin over to the dark side? Can somebody chop off one of LegoFjotten's hands or take away Donnie's bricks? -
Disappointing overall result, but congrats to BEAVeR and all the Rebels. Glad to see that the Rebs are back. Thanks Josh. Looking forward to the next one.

I usually do not buy large LEGO sets, but I really liked the 75055 ISD and wanted to take a stab at MOCing the interior. It's been sitting on my shelf for a while but I finally got around to it. I first took out a lot of the interior guts, including the hook and middle support section. As you can see below, it holds up fine but doesn't necessarily seal as tightly as I remember. I tried a few layouts but settled on this SNOT'd version. The front section does have to come off to close the top completely. There's not too much to it, just a matter of designing the walls and workstations the way you want them. The real bridge on the top right in the picture below, connects and sits atop the SNOT'd floor, but it is not the best connection. It won't fall when assembled because the "cap" helps to hold it in place, but only 4 studs are connected to the ship below. There are not as many work stations as I had hoped to fit in there and I hadn't realized how few crewman hats I had. I didn't SNOT the floor because there is only so much vertical space because of the folding top. I did apply some of the stickers to 1x2x2 bricks rather than the slopes that came with the set. I also used dbg tiles instead of black for the other stickers just based on my supply. ISD - 5 - briefing by goatman461, on FlickrMy original plan was to recreate the bounty hunter scene from TESB, but, after piecing together all the bounty hunters based on some really great ideas other builders have had, I realized that this scene was on an SSD, which is why I was having so much trouble figuring out the correct layout of for the bridge crew. Either way, I wanted to share the bounty hunter collection. (I just realized that Zuckuss looks really happy to see Vader at this angle, oops). ISD - 6 - bounty hunters by goatman461, on FlickrI hope y'all enjoy it. I don't plan to keep the interior as is because I want to use the parts elsewhere and the original version works better for hanging/displaying the ISB when closed. So, I will likely put all the supports and the hook back in without the playset features. C&C are welcomed and appreciated.

[SoNE Ep VI Freebuild] Bothawui Battle Blues (part 1)
goatman461 replied to LucasLaughing's topic in Nar Eurbrikka Archive
You do a great job posing all of the figs for the action shots, but some more overall shots showing your entire build would be nice so that it would be easier to track the action. Way to stick it to those Rebels -
Very clean and sharp looking. I might have to try this with an A-Wing spinning into a ISB bridge or an Imperial shuttle landing on Endor The y-wing nose gives me pause. Maybe if it came forward a little bit? Not sure, but it's definitely better than mine ; I definitely plan to use your design for the body

Below is BEAVeR and I's consolidated stories and builds from SoNE: Episode VI. We hope that you enjoy the contrasting story arcs of our characters and how two vastly different Imperial officers interact on their missions. 1.1 - When did the killer become the hero? Officer VeR is glad that he is finally on a peaceful mission, but he has his questions about it. Landing a craft on Mon Calamari, the troopers in the back start talking about how awesome Boba Fett is, and that he can do everything. He doesn't mind that they adore him as long as that prevents worse, but he wonders... why is that murderer celebrated like a hero? Because he can do anything? And what does that make Officer VeR? [soNE Ep. VI] 1 - When did the killer become the hero? by Bert.VR, on Flickr 1.2 - Something smells fishy While between missions, Agent Goatm An joins Officer VeR in his mission to find Boba Fett. The two pilots drop chatty troopers off at various floating cities before following one up on one of Goatm’s local contacts located on a shipyard orbiting the planet. The officers receive a far too formal welcome, leading Goatm to wonder what the Calamari are really up to. [soNE VI] Mon Calamari - 2 by goatman461, on Flickr2 - Worse than war The bounty hunter is said to frequent a certain mining company on Fondor and Officer VeR plans to interrogate the boss of the facility. The mining boss reveals that he gives missions to the bounty hunter. Certain competitors have to be eliminated to terrorize the people in the name of the Rebels. And that terror is good for business, so war should be maintained as long as possible. Officer VeR finds this horrible, and calls that terror worse than war. And he questions the role of the bounty hunter in this. He's not just a blaster someone else fires. By offering such a possibility, he encourages others to commit these crimes. This is atrocious to Officer VeR. [soNE Ep. VI] 2 - Worse than war by Bert.VR, on Flickr 2.2 - Worse than war (part 2) While Officer VeR is checking out a mining company, Goatm seeks out local union workers that Fett would have likely used for repairs. After starting, and finishing, a street fight with a group of them, Goatm starts to interrogate the workers. However, Officer VeR calls Goatm back to the shuttle and Goatm leaves the workers bleeding on the wet, busy street. [soNE Ep VI] Fondor 2 by goatman461, on Flickr3.1 - Just another horror The last assignment Boba Fett received on Fondor, was to eliminate a competitor on Ord Mantell. In a recycling facility, officer VeR and Agent An discover that the target died in a trash compactor, along with his family. A datapad left behind indicates that Rebels were responsible, so that there's nothing left to be done, and people are left without hope. Officer VeR is utterly disgusted by this. Not only the atrocious murder, but that it took hope from the people. Instead, they just accepted it, as something normal, as just another horror of the war. He realizes that this cannot happen, that people need to wake up. But how? [soNE Ep. VI] 3 - Just another horror by Bert.VR, on Flickr 3.2 - Just another horror (part 2) Officer VeR is visibly distraught by the murder of recycling center owner and Goatm decides to interrogate the remaining worker elsewhere. As they walk back to the janitor’s home and shop they discuss life on Ord Mantell and the implications of this attack. The janitor gives Goatm directions to a local Hutt arms dealer where Goatm is hopeful to get a lead on Fett. Goatm is interrupted again by Officer VeR before getting to the dealer and the two officers head to Bothawui. [soNE VI] Ord Mantell - 3 by goatman461, on Flickr4.1 - Ruins among ruins The datapad from Ord Mantell still contained some information, and Agent An and Officer VeR reach a ruined temple on Bothawui. The former descends into a hatch leading to what might be a Rebel base, while the latter stands guard. When two Bothans happen on the place, the only thing he can do is to hide and contact his colleague. Then the horror becomes apparent to him, but luckily the Bothans value their lives and leave the place. Now that he knows the Rebels are after the bounty hunter as well, officer VeR sees what the real objective of their mission is. Not to find the Boba Fett, but to find the Rebels that are after him. But it puzzles him why this should be hidden. His ideas about the Empire become ruins among the ruins. He despises that kind of hidden warfare, and decides that something has to be done about that. [soNE Ep. VI] 4 - Ruins among ruins by Bert.VR, on Flickr 4.2 - Ruins on top of ruins (part 2) When they discover the Rebel hideout, Goatm eagerly descends into the unknown below. The reluctant Officer VeR stays behind to guard the escape route. Goatm quickly finds and dispatches a hapless Rebel scout and continues further below. Further below, he finds a large weapons depot, an arms dealer in the middle of a procedure, and a mysterious hatch emanating the sounds of alarm and ambush below. After arguing with Officer VeR, Goatm throws open the hatch and generously fills the room with blaster fire. Once the smoke clears and the room is quite, Goatm grabs the arms dealer who will lead them to their next lead on Felucia. [soNE Ep VI] Bothawui by goatman461, on Flickr 5.1 - Felucia (part 1) On the way to Felucia, Goatm discovers that imperial troops are scanning Felucian sarlacc pits in search of Boba Fett. To hide his favorite dump site, Goatm mounts a speeder and departs from the shuttle as soon as Officer VeR hits the planet’s damp atmosphere. Just in time, Goatm turns a squad away from the pit and races back to VeR’s landing coordinates to lead a squad in the wrong direction. VeR is up to something, but Goatm knows that whatever it is, Goatm will gain some leverage if VeR ever discovers Goatm’s own deviations. [soNE Ep VI] Felucia 1 by goatman461, on Flickr5.2 - Delivery, deliverance The two found themselves on Felucia after a tip from the arms dealer. The datapad, however, revealed a more exact location to officer VeR. But after all he has been through, he can't allow Boba Fett to get a thank you message for his cruelties. Instead, VeR sends Agent An and the troopers in the wrong direction, while he will try to deliver his very own 'thank you' message to the bounty hunter, in the hope that that delivery might bring deliverance. [SoNE Freebuild] 6-4 Boarding Party

Thank you. You managed to pick out the two areas I did last and therefore got lazy on (especially lazy when it came to how the hull would be breached); good eye. I did think of the cones as being part of what breaks through the hull and the small cone was just a damaged or worn down part. In the back, I wasn't too worried about propulsion because were talking about the vacuum of space and an initial push would be enough to get this box to target. I think I'll try another one of these larger ships in between SoNE episodes. Got to finish a dark trooper build first, though. Thank you for blogging. I hope it's not taking time away from your Felucia building.- 10 replies
