  1. Blakbird: What do you use for your animations? Scripting in LDCad? LD4DStudio? Something else? Or a whole bunch of manually-created still shots stitched together?
  2. I'm also really enjoying the back-and-forth between Blakbird and aeh5040 - by the end of it we'll have a pretty comprehensive record of exactly how this marvelous machine does what it does.
  3. Man, it'd suck to have to be one of the poor chaps at the back of that swan, trying to maneuver that huge thing with just that long stick!
  4. Oh so you did - I missed the link to the video. Carry on.
  5. Is that black upright piece just jammed between the studs? It seems to me that that's the weak point of the design. How easy would it be to brace it with a transverse member between the rowlocks? Owen.
  6. Your images aren't showing up because you've linked to the Brickshelf image page, not the image itself. You want the URL that goes something like brickshelf.com/gallery/yourname/folder/imagename.jpg rather than something like brickshelf.com/gallery.cgi?i=number - hope that helps. However, you might want to look at resizing the images before you post them - they're a little on the large side. Owen.
  7. My guess is that you've put image tags around a couple of webpages (rather than directly linking to the image you're interested in) Owen.
  8. Is there a spot for the 'official' photos that were taken? Like the big group photo at the end? Or are they all mixed in with the photos from everyone else in the flickr group?
  9. Some of the most impressive functions are built out of just axles and liftarms!
  10. Well, as far as those bits arranged in that fashion is concerned, all it'll do is make a lot of noise. Spur gears don't mesh at 90 degrees! Edit: Damn, beaten to the punch by Saberwing
  11. Those photos really are a lot cleaner than the old ones (not that the old ones were bad). They are still photos, right? The better the photo the more like a render it looks, and the better the render, the more like a photo it looks. It's got to the point where it's tricky to tell them apart!
  12. Nice. Lots of modules I'd seen before on various videos, but plenty of new ones too.
  13. Well then just don't build any channels that are only 2 studs wide! There are plenty of GBC modules that would work with both types of balls. You do have to be careful though of the little divot that's on one side of the bionicle balls - it means you need a steeper slope than normal to keep them rolling. Owen.
  14. How about a Rube Goldberg machine? Find some simple task to do (like maybe pressing a button on your Mindstorms controller that plays a tune or something), and come up with the most convoluted way you can to achieve that. Bonus points if you start the chain by pressing a button on your other Mindstorms controller!
  15. I've been pondering recently what to do with all my parts that have similar problems. I have many bushes/half-bushes with cracks, and almost all of my axle pin connectors are cracked around the bottom bit (where you insert the axle). It seems such a waste to just throw them out, given that they are still useful for low-stress purposes. What's the general consensus of using cracked parts? Owen.
  16. Thanks! That red one was the first module I ever built, about 3 years ago now. I think it needs a bit of a redesign - I feel it can be made to fit entirely on one baseplate with a better geometry. Copy away. It might be easier once you've seen it 'in the flesh' - there are a couple of critical half-stud offsets that aren't obvious from the video. Owen.
  17. Was I the only one who didn't know of the existence of two variants of the Axle 5.5 With Stop? One is slightly longer on the long leg than the other, and you really only see the difference if you have two of them side-by-side. According to the LDraw file header for the longer part, it's 2LDU longer, which, given a stud is 20LDU, should mean it should be called Axle 5.6 With Stop, no? :-) I did have a look around various places on the Internet, but I couldn't find any info about it. Does anybody know the reason for the change? Is it even a change or are there two molds in use concurrently?
  18. Detailed is right! Welcome to EB - that's a great first impression. Owen.
  19. Sounds good. Bring it! I hang out in the Technic forum mostly, so there are a lot of people I won't know, but I am looking forward to meeting Kristel, who according to the registration list is the only other person crazy enough to come all the way from Australia. I would consider cosplay, but I don't know how to dress up as a GBC. Maybe double up on Mad Scientists? In any case, I'd probably look a bit out of place amongst the other GBCers, so I'll give this one a miss. I have also come to the conclusion that I'll probably be done building with a weekend to spare. Mind you, that's got more to do with being limited to the amount of LEGO one can fit into a suitcase than building proficiency!
  20. Wow, I didn't know you could get that information out of Bricklink.
  21. I do wonder what the price of those brown half-barrels has done in the last few months...
  22. Wow, places in the GBC workshop/Winter village set draft went fast!
  23. One site that does what you describe is Technica (http://isodomos.com/technica/technica.html), but that site is now somewhat out of date (having been last updated in 2002). I was thinking as I read through the descriptions of those years that it was a hard time to be a completionist!
  24. The Code Pilot paragraph in the New Parts section of 1997 links to a page that is titled 8479 Barcode Mutli-Set, and has a couple of renders/photos of that set, but has most of the content from 8456 Fiber Optics set. Owen.
