LEGO Star Wars 2016 Pictures and Rumors
Raskolnikov replied to Brickdoctor's topic in LEGO Star Wars
He emphasized the word "divided" twice, so I'm calling it now: it's gotta be a half sphere. From one direction it'll look like the exterior, and you can turn it around to access the interior -- kind of like Orthanc. Most people seem to want something like the 10188 but bigger, more detailed, and with an exterior. Frankly, that's just not going to happen -- that'd be a $1000 set. So TLG split the sphere. Hardcore fans can simply buy two. This is all just a prediction, but the more I think about it, the more it makes sense to me. -
[MOC] Imperial Bastion on the planet Valrar
Raskolnikov replied to michaelozzie's topic in LEGO Star Wars
I've been following the progress, so it's great to see it finished! It's all very classically Imperial. I especially like some of the smaller MOCs in the display -- I've already spent some time studying the shuttle cockpit and speeder bike designs to see what I can learn, heh. -
[MOC][WIP][LDD] Minifig Scale Rebels Ghost Build
Raskolnikov replied to IcarusBuilds's topic in LEGO Star Wars
I love the interior shots! It's so detailed and seems to match up perfectly with the actual ship. I really hope you get a chance to build a physical version -- it'd be absolutely massive! -
Hey Mishka, great work! That snot technique looks great -- not something I've mastered yet, heh. Here's my version: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=137125 Feel free to use any components of it that you like -- I'd love to see what your snot version would look like with my generator domes!

[MOD] 8039 Venator-Class Republic Attack Cruiser
Raskolnikov replied to sahidko's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Cool, pretty good use of the limited space in there. -
Very interesting book! Looks pretty well worn. I also like the way it describes Star Wars as a "Space Fantasy," which is probably more accurate than calling it science fiction.

Ah, I was hoping there were updated pictures -- can't wait to see the fleet built.

[MOC] Imperial Interdictor Cruiser - The IIC Constrictor
Raskolnikov replied to Raskolnikov's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Thanks everyone! Yeah, I'd say the shape of the ship is mostly influenced by the Immobilizer 418, but the greebling down the top center and the raised terraces flanking it are inspired by the Rebels variant (although it's less textured). There's a pic of the Rebels one here: http://starwarsrebels.wikia.com/wiki/Imperial_Interdictor I probably would have used more features from the Rebels variant if I could, but I liked the way the Immobilzer was supposed to be 600m, which would make for a manageable project if made to scale with the Tyrant. I also liked the much more pronounced gravity well generators on most depictions of the Immobilizer. And I had to go with the Immobilizer on the underside, since the Rebels variant is absurdly complex and would really cramp the interior space. I'll try to do that -- I'm not terribly satisfied with the back end either. I can't add too much weight, though, or it'll get out of balance. I also have been thinking about increasing the overall length by a smidgeon, like 3 studs, to better cover up the back panels. That would definitely put it out of balance and would require moving the stand and carry handle. It might also necessitate moving some of the gravity well generators slightly. So one of these days I might just revamp the back end completely, if I can't just touch it up. I also considered doing the greebling along the sides entirely in dark bluish gray (but didn't, for reasons), in which case I could have added dark bluish gray greebled bands to the engine section as well. -
So, here's the first support vessel to go along with the ISD Tyrant: an Imperial Interdictor Cruiser called the IIC Constrictor. I sort of mix-and-matched features from the Rebels Interdictor and the Immobilizer 418 from the old expanded universe (a ship which is now technically canon, again -- but we don't really know what it looks like or how big it is). A couple more pictures and some more detailed descriptions are on flickr or imgur (http://imgur.com/gallery/fEz3X) Feedback is welcome -- when a build isn't 70 lbs, you can actually change things if you want to, which is nice. I was working on that but kind of got bored halfway through -- it turns out that it's harder to attach them than I thought it would be. Jang of Jangbricks put them next to each other and has a video of it: he just kind of opens up the 7879 behind the 75098, letting it just serve as a back wall. That looks ok but it takes up a lot of room and isn't particularly accurate -- it results in the medical and control room parts of the base being randomly dispersed throughout the hangars. I haven't come up with an easy alternative, though. Overall, it's just not easy to combine 7879 and 75098. I think you probably have to disassemble the 7879 pretty significantly to do it right, and that point, I feel like you might as well just start rebuilding from the ground up. Also, one of the biggest challenges is just how much space a proper Hoth display takes up. I literally don't own a table big enough to do it right. Anyway, here's my current plan, if I get around to it: Add a bunch of white bricks, raise up the 75098 slightly, attach the 7879 on the left side of the base, turn it into a designated section of the base with control and medical rooms, and add tunnels with Wampa caves so they can break into the base (Wampas broke into Echo Base in deleted scenes from Empire Strikes Back, and are also shown doing so in Shadows of the Empire and the technical journal/cross-section of the base). What I've completed so far, I did while I was building the 75098 from the directions: I replaced colored technic pieces as I went along, made the blast doors solid black, added a fourth power generator module, redesigned the tops of all the rebel turrets to get rid of the too-wide "cockpits," and added a back to the Ion Cannon. If anyone wants some pictures of that, I could take some.

[FINISHED][2.2 meters long] Venator class star destroyer "ATELLES"
Raskolnikov replied to Kommander's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Looks great! Did you say you started this in 2008? You must be excited to complete it -- having a project going for that long would probably drive me mad. -

Shrug -- could just be a Disney image somewhere on the packaging. -
[MOD] Death Star II Housewarming Party!
Raskolnikov replied to Littleworlds's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Wonderful! There's a lot of really clever (and sometimes very relatable) stuff in the pictures as well as the captions. It's also amazing to me how minifigures can convey so much personality, sometimes, with just subtle changes to how they're positioned -- a tip of a head here, a raised glass there, etc. The royal guard outside the door is not going to feel well tomorrow morning, I'm sure.- 15 replies

Love this. I'm not too familiar with Babylon 5, but this does look very "Star Wars" to me. The rotating cockpit and somewhat awkward landing mode is reminiscent of both the B-wing and the Slave 1, so I could definitely see a heavy fighter owned by a bounty hunter operating this way.

I heard someone speculate that it's Porkins, wouldn't it be awesome if he was in Rogue One? Looks kind of like it. -
LEGO Star Wars 2016 Pictures and Rumors
Raskolnikov replied to Brickdoctor's topic in LEGO Star Wars
You can see the leaked pictures in multiple topics on r/lego, where they'll probably be continually re-hosted and re-posted: https://www.reddit.com/r/lego Also, you know, not to criticize the mods or anything (thanks for what you do, truly) but doesn't it seem rather silly that there is such a constant struggle to keep this on topic when it's titled "LEGO Star Wars 2016 Pictures and Rumors" and the most on-topic thing you could think of -- leaked pictures -- isn't actually allowed here? -
LEGO Star Wars 2016 Pictures and Rumors
Raskolnikov replied to Brickdoctor's topic in LEGO Star Wars
The AT-ST looks acceptable, so I'll be purchasing several of them. I'll wait for more/better pictures before judging the other sets, I think. Looks like the ISB Admiral comes with the black shuttle, so I guess that's also a must. I've heard that black is a tough color to photograph -- maybe it looks better in person. -
[BL - WIP] 10030 Imperial Star Destroyer
Raskolnikov replied to Midlife-crisis's topic in LEGO Star Wars
I like those brick-built engines as well. I didn't think the size of the death star domes was that bad on the 10030, though, it was more the smoothness of the domes and the gray-mixing that looked jarring to me. So what you gonna do with those domes? Each is a couple bucks, if I remember correctly.- 38 replies

Hey, do you have any updated pictures showing this build? Maybe you posted them somewhere and I just missed it. It'd be interesting to compare your finished version with the new set. At this point, I'm thinking about building your version, but maybe I could incorporate some pieces or features from the set.

I also liked the Ghost. I think a lot of people wanted it to be bigger. But since it was based on Rebels, I understand why they tried to keep the price point relatively low. I think it achieved a good balance of playability, aesthetics, and interior space for its size. You kind of have to pretend that the escape pods double as crew quarters, though.

I doubt it's going to seriously change my life or anything, but it certainly has been a lot of fun. From the beginning I was hoping that a lot of people would see it, but the level of interest exceeded all my expectations. I mean, I had posted a TIE Bomber MOC a while ago, which got like 5k views on imgur. I thought that was pretty good. With the Tyrant, I thought I had done something more unique, so I was thinking that 100k views would be nice. But across all the blogs and news sites that have featured it, I'm pretty sure that millions have now seen it. So that's really cool. It also means, for better or worse, that those of you on Eurobricks probably will see it a few more times over the next month or so ("The Tyrant again? I already seent it!"). It was just on the brothers brick yesterday, and I was a little worried that people might consider it old news. But thankfully that post seems to have reached a lot of Flickr users who hadn't seen it yet. BB post is here: http://www.brothers-...dible-interior/ Anyway, I am sure that part of it is just the atmosphere right now. I can't remember Lego, Star Wars, or "nerd culture" generally, ever being more popular or mainstream. There are a lot of journalists and bloggers who are on the lookout for that kind of content now, and I think this fit the bill for them. But hey, if you have any ideas to use that popularity to recoup the parts cost, let me know :)

What can I say? If it's about an Imperial Landing Craft, ima be clickin on it.

Your link's broken, but I can commiserate with being initially confused about how to embed pics from flickr on eurobricks. Go to the bottom right of the pic on flickr, click on share, click on BBcode, then paste that into your post.

Ah, thanks. The TIE Interceptor was one of my early MOCs/mods after coming out of my dark ages. The cockpit is identical to the one on the 9492 set, and the wings are supposed to be a similar style. More pics here: http://imgur.com/a/VcKcj The re-colored A-wing is also based on a set, but the body is pretty heavily modified. I tried to make it a more accurate and curvy shape, but it didn't quite work out as planned. More pics of that here: http://imgur.com/a/dX5vR I'd like to revisit the A-wing at some point.

Thanks, it would look awfully nice in that Death Star room of yours, wouldn't it?
