[WIP] [MOC] Harrower-class Dreadnought
Raskolnikov replied to Swan Dutchman's topic in LEGO Star Wars
That's a beautiful looking ship you got there. -
There's a somewhat lengthy topic about this already, here: Looks like most people expect something classic from Ep. IV, like a Falcon, ISD, or Tantive IV. I'd vote for a MF or AT-AT myself.

LEGO Star Wars 2016 Pictures and Rumors
Raskolnikov replied to Brickdoctor's topic in LEGO Star Wars
I agree with Forresto. It's not a big deal or anything, but I definitely remember thinking that the AT-ST looked a bit "stumpy" when I first saw the box art. When you see it in person, though, it looks really good. -
Force Friday (30th September) promotions
Raskolnikov replied to Richpepperell's topic in LEGO Star Wars
If all the Revans went to key chain sales before the RO sets even were released, I am going to be sorely disappointed. I sincerely hope they made some effort to enforce the one-per-household rule and didn't actually just give them all out to scalpers. I'm still hoping that the RO sets are going to go live with lots more Revans available, and it's just a big misunderstanding or matter of delay/technical issues. Otherwise, this would be one of the most inept business promotions I think I've seen. -

Maybe I'm late to the party on this, but I just stopped in TRU (New York, USA) looking for the new sets. They hadn't put them out early, but they did have First Order Generals with every purchase of $30 or more. The promotion apparently is running from Sept. 25 to Oct. 1, so I nearly missed it. -
Is there anything from the OT that has not been built?
Raskolnikov replied to PaddyBricksplitter's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Yeah, seems like it. Interpreting the OP's question as "what hasn't been done by anyone" could be interesting, though. I think everything has been done in some form, but maybe not in a particular style. For example, while I have seen a handful of Mon Cal cruiser attempts, none have interiors (to my knowledge). It's something I've put thought into but it's just such a tough ship design. New parts could simplify it considerably. If a few windscreen elements and curved technic panels came in light bley, that'd create a lot of new options. TLG made a TIE Bomber in the blue TIE days -- like all the blue TIEs, though, it looks seriously out of date next to more modern sets. -
Yeah, I actually did film a half-hour video like that, but I'm not sure it was up to production standards. I suppose I could re-edit the clips fairly quickly, make it more of a highlight reel with text instead of narration. It'd be a hassle to take more footage right now because the ship is "in drydock" for repairs. It got a little damaged coming home from Brickfair VA, so I figure now is a good time to start some major alternations. The to-do list includes removing the old LEDs and putting in new, high-end ones. I also would like reduce some of the weight of the ship (some parts of are needlessly built up -- I'm bet it could shed a few pounds yet look the same). I also plan to experiment with making the panels easier to remove, and with removing visible studs from a few more sections. Don't worry, the interior and exterior still will be pretty much the same old Tyrant -- the most significant changes will be "behind the scenes." Still going to take a while, though. And thanks for the nice words, LaPasnaille, Cedbricks, and Dukeside, glad you like it!

LEGO Star Wars 2016 Pictures and Rumors
Raskolnikov replied to Brickdoctor's topic in LEGO Star Wars
I'm super psyched about the new Imperial officers as well. I put a lot of effort into my collection of Imperial minifigures (as I think you have, too), so they definitely will be nice additions. If other people don't feel the same way, all the better for me :) Hopefully, the secondary market for them will be reasonable. But since an Admiral Piett can fetch $40, I guess there are a decent number of us who care about the details of Imperial uniforms, and they'll probably be pretty pricey. -

Might be a protocol droid of some kind at the top right of the back of the box pic, maybe? Hope they go ahead and do the official release, soon. I'd like to see the details on the Imperial officers. -
LEGO Star Wars 2016 Pictures and Rumors
Raskolnikov replied to Brickdoctor's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Seems to me that an unfortunate mismatch between rumors and reality is what caused disappointment. We heard pretty early on that a death star was coming and that it was going to be "bigger." If the rumors from the get-go had been "they're going to release an update to the 10188 because all the figs look super outdated," I doubt it would have caused much of a stir. Anyway, I'm in the boat of not having a 10188, so I'll probably get this one. The outdated figures on the 10188 were a big turn off for me. Now, at least, I'll be paying for a bunch of minifigures that I can use -- including, finally, a gray-uniformed Tarkin. And although adding cheese slopes is a bit of a joke, it seems, I plan to add a ton of them to the set-- give it a bit more of a finished look (might do some other modifications, too). Edit: Noticed a couple nice surprises in the high res image. So the Navy/Death Star Troopers have backprinting, which is new. There also is a black uniformed officer with a black cap, and it looks like he has a rank insignia on his torso. Very excited about that. So it's kind of hard to see, but it looks like this guy: This is just a well-intentioned suggestion: But are you guys able to change the titles of posts? The rumors topics all are titled "LEGO Star Wars Pictures and Rumors." To me, that sounds like a place for pictures that are related to rumors. So I'm thinking that maybe a new title would help prevent what seems to be a constantly recurring issue. Something like "LEGO Star Wars Rumors Discussion (Don't post leaked pictures)," perhaps? -

I particularly like your version of the table -- those bricks are gleaming. Do you have any pics showing more clearly how it's made? -

Raskolnikov replied to Brickdoctor's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Yeah, 10188 came out when I was still in my dark ages, and over the past couple years I also didn't bother to pick it up partly because the minifigures all looked really outdated. As for the minifigure line up, I'm generally more interested in the Imperials than the main characters, but I am looking forward to getting a couple copies of the new Han hair piece and a new Leia. -

Ahhh, I was really hoping for a Motti or Tagge too. I bet the Imperial Navy Officer is a use of that new black cap. -
[MOC] Imperial Interdictor Cruiser - The IIC Constrictor
Raskolnikov replied to Raskolnikov's topic in LEGO Star Wars
I'm starting to really enjoy reading your detailed write-ups, Beaver -- even if you tend to be about a month behind schedule. :) So both the Constrictor and Tyrant were at Brickfair, and I managed to make a couple very minor updates to the Constrictor's engines and bridge before I went. I haven't taken any new pictures of it myself, but while browsing some other people's Brickfair pictures I found a good one: VA BrickFair 2016 Pop Culture by EDWW day_dae (esteemedhelga)â„¢, on Flickr Heh, a 32-inch Victory-class is well on its way. The goal with this one is to basically do a user-friendly, smaller, and less overbuilt version of the Tyrant. I'm trying to build it in LDD as well, so once it's done I'll either learn to make directions or have someone else help me with them. The directions will be to build an Imperial-class, since way more people would probably want that, but I'll keep my version as a VSD (the ships are almost identical apart from the easily altered "wings" and bridge). I'd love that -- that dang Atlantic Ocean does make it difficult, though. Yeah, the shaping on that is really interesting, and I'd say the Constrictor mostly draws from the Rebels version already. It'd just be really hard to get that shaping right and still have any space inside the ship. Since it's hard to see the bottom when it's displayed anyway, I took the easy way out for once. If someone were to do a Rebels version right, I think it'd have to be a much larger ship. I wanted to stick with a smaller, Immobilizer 418-sized project, though. So yeah, I like that idea and messed around with it a little. If you look you can see four big "blank" spaces in the interior, where you can see the bottom panels. I was going to put stuff there -- like tubing or something to represent "cut-away gravity generators" -- but it turns out that you can't fit much at all there because the L-shaped liftarms for the top panels would run into it. When the ship is closed up, those L-shaped liftarms go below the level of the interior "deck" and are virtually touching the bottom panels. So I might be able to add some flexible hoses in a couple places, but a lot of the space is already used up. Thanks! You're the only one who mentioned those, I think. That was one of the very first ideas I had for the Constrictor that helped get it going. No joke, I basically set out to build an interdictor that used eighth spheres for the generators and disc shooters along the side. I also wanted the ship to be a test of a lighter, easier to access version of the Tyrant's basic frame (the frames create the same angles and repeat some of the same patterns). Anyway, thanks again for the great feedback! -
Anakin's Custom Jedi Starfighter kind of came out of nowhere, too, so it wouldn't be unheard of.

My first BrickFair VA as well (my first any kind of LEGO convention or meet-up, actually). I'm located in Buffalo, so pretty much every convention seems to be about equally far away. I chose VA because I had some friends in the area and wanted to meet up with them for dinner. I'd like to hit some more conventions, but anything in October is probably off the table for now. I also really need to simplify the process of transporting and setting up the star destroyer. That was the first time it was out of my apartment, and it turns out that my car is way too small and the ship is really heavy. 6-7+ hours of driving, plus hours of setting up, repairing, and packing the ship makes for a very hectic weekend. I have a couple changes to the ship in mind, so maybe the "Tyrant II" will be more transportable and easier to assemble.

LEGO Star Wars 2016 Pictures and Rumors
Raskolnikov replied to Brickdoctor's topic in LEGO Star Wars
I believe it's the ice pick piece (http://brickset.com/parts/6088382), and its handle is stuck into a black, round piece of some kind that extends back through the engine. -
Yeah, just want to say that my theme leader, John, did a great job of making space for me even though I arrived really late. So I had no problems (that weren't of my own making, heh).
-
Cool! I met you at BrickFair, too, AC. Great event -- lots of cool stuff and people there. I kind of snuck in at the last second on Friday and barely had enough time to set up. So I didn't get a chance to meet too many people and really appreciate you introducing yourself. Next time, I hope I'll be able to take more time off work so I can arrive a little earlier.

LEGO Star Wars 2016 Pictures and Rumors
Raskolnikov replied to Brickdoctor's topic in LEGO Star Wars
I agree that the new sets look to be of good quality, and the new pictures really make them pop, but I can't shake the feeling that something's a little "off." I think it just may be that the designs of Rogue One are a little dull, not really anything that's LEGO's fault. It's almost like the designers (for the film) of the U-Wing and TIE Striker were faced with the problem "well we have to design something new...what hasn't been done yet? Also we can't make it look too advanced because this is before Episode IV." And again, I really like what LEGO did with the texture on the front of the shuttle, and it looks like it has room for a big interior. Combine that with great minifigures, and it's a day-one purchase for me. But in the back of my mind, there's a little voice saying "the design of that shuttle looks like the Lambda-class shuttle you tried to build when you were 7 years old." (I think I made some "hovertanks" due to a lack of treads, too.) As for the AT-ST -- an original trilogy vehicle -- I like the design of the "head." It reminds me a lot of some of the good MOCs out there. Isn't that conical piece on the sides of the head the expensive Scala piece that some of the AT-ST MOCs use? The legs are a bit too fat for my tastes, but I understand why they might be designed that way, and it's probably easy to mod. Anyway, I'm pleased that we're finally getting a passable AT-ST in a set by itself, so I'll be getting several of these. So yeah, I'll probably be getting everything in this Imperial-heavy wave -- just worried that the new vehicle designs in Rogue One may be a bit lackluster. Luckily, the film will also have tried-and-true original trilogy vehicles, like the Star Destroyer and AT-AT. -
LEGO Star Wars 2016 Pictures and Rumors

The color scheme was an issue for me, actually, so just last weekend I tried to mod the set to look similar to thenerdyone's picture. Just in case anyone has similar plans, you should be warned that the large printed front piece has some red on it. That makes it rather difficult to difficult to change out the red in a way that looks good. -
I plan to attend. But I can't really take much time off of work so I plan to arrive sort of late Friday afternoon with a big Star Destroyer on a dolley/hand truck. I've never been to any kind of Lego convention -- am I going to run into trouble by trying to set up at the last second? Also, any tips for preventing damage to MOCs to the extent possible?
-
Agree -- I like the style of this MOC and look forward to future updates, but I would also caution to start thinking about reinforcing the support structure in a big way if you plan to build a physical version. Weight adds up really fast.
-
This is wonderful -- after I saw the rather disappointing size of the original set, I was hoping that someone might make something like this. I think you've captured all the recognizable features of the location really well! Edit: Also, can you go into a little more detail on the bluetooth speaker? How's that work? Is it easy to turn on? It'd be nice if all you had to do was press a button and it'd play the song.
