Thankfully, the chances of there not being a old Luke minifigure are approximately 3,720 to 1. Anyway, good title, I like it. I hope Rian Johnson took a lot of risks with the story, and I hope there are lots of big, gray, and triangular space ships.

Video if anyone's curious how the ISD Tyrant opens up
Raskolnikov replied to Raskolnikov's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Aw, thanks again. Not really, a group of five people came over to see it earlier this month, including a five-year-old kid. I've never had any issues with the the ship tipping over, and I've walked into it pretty forcefully by accident. So I'd think a five-year-old would need a running start. The parts of the Tyrant that would be most in danger would be all the different chunks of the ship that I removed, like in the video -- don't really have a place to put all of them. But probably the worst that can happen is that some fragile greebling gets messed up, and that's easily fixed. I probably should have been a lot more worried about that Slave 1 in the background. I think a five-year-old could send that set flying off its stand pretty easily. -
Video if anyone's curious how the ISD Tyrant opens up
Raskolnikov replied to Raskolnikov's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Thanks guys! Yep, it's a cheap GoPro type of thing. Yeah, exactly, the plan was to do a more thorough tour, but it was hard to see the interior spaces. And sometimes things were cut off at the bottom of the screen but I didn't know it, etc. Was planning on re-filming it or something, but a couple months went by and I hadn't gotten to it. So I figured I'd recut it into just a quick video showing how it comes apart. That's a little less than seven pounds (aka, around 3 kg I think). Parts of it are fragile, but it's not going to break or anything so long as you pick it up from the right spots. A lot of things on the ship are not terribly user friendly like that...you sort of need an intimate knowledge of the ship to be able to move it, etc. -
Looks great! That might be just the right amount of snow for pictures. I've got like a foot outside, but I'm not sure if it's packed hard enough to avoid the model sinking into it.

Truly a man after my own heart -- can't wait to see the inevitable Hoth setup!
-
Looks great -- that rancor sure looks tiny in comparison! I'd like to have a go at doing further mods to my AT-STs as well, but alas, other projects and real life interfere. Btw, a little lbg binocular piece may have fallen off the front body exterior panels (or maybe it's still on the to-do list). I wouldn't have mentioned it, but I really like that piece :)

Yeah, I agree with Kevii23 that modifying to an AT-ACT should be doable. I'd be interested to see what you come up with. Well, a big part of the reason I even made this AT-AT at all is because I bought the AT-ST set (75153) that's out right now. The AT-ST just looked way too big in comparison to the AT-AT sets. So, while they're not properly to scale or anything, you could say that the plus-sized AT-AT actually was designed to be displayed next to the 75153. Anyway, there are a bunch of great AT-ST MOCs out there. But getting the set and modding it was enough for me (for now, anyway). There are a lot of mod ideas in this thread: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?/forums/topic/140965-75153-at-st-modification/ One of the original pics includes height comparisons:

I'm glad, great pic, too. It's really cool to see the same AT-ATs that are on my kitchen countertop (yeah, I really need more shelf space) being built by others, sometimes in different countries. Oh, the internet. I also concur with Schneeds on wanting a comparison pic with a cat :)

Yep, rebrickable has a feature that shows you what you can build with the parts from dismantled sets: https://rebrickable.com/pick_set?p=1&s1=75054-1&s2=&s3=&c=1&ignore_print=1&ignore_mold=1&ignore_alt=1&ignore_minifig=1&ignore_nonlego=1&theme=008&numpieces=2400&maxpieces=5050&year=2009&yearto=2016&inc_custom=1&inc_premium=1&sortby=0 Clicking on the Plus-Size AT-AT at the bottom of that page then should show you what additional parts you'd need: https://rebrickable.com/build_set?s=MOC-6006&ov=1&s1=75054-1&s2=&s3=&c=1&ignore_print=1&ignore_mold=1&ignore_alt=1&ignore_minifig=1&ignore_nonlego=1 There still are a lot of parts to purchase even when scrapping a 75054, but most of them should be pretty cheap (well, apart from the scala dishes).

Cool, love that comparison shot with the Sandcrawler! Glad you like it even in better in person. You get those lift arms in yet? I'm hoping to see it make an appearance in some of your SoNE builds or dioramas -- although you'll definitely have your work cut out for you fitting it in frame, heh. Looks like we're about to get an extra Christmas present, too, since the AT-AT is about to win the rebrickable contest for December. How about that?
-
Thanks, you are seeing the up-to-date version of the rebrickable page. There's nothing to worry about with regard to the parts list either way, though. (I.e., the newest version of the parts list just removed a couple extremely common and cheap technic pins. I was only interested in the parts number because its an easy way to determine whether you're seeing updates to the page in general. Anyway, the issue sounds like it is resolved now.) Hope you find those scala dishes. Cool, hope you enjoy it.
-
Thanks! I'd love to see those pics. I concur on the speeder bikes -- I stuffed one of those and an E-web into mine. Btw, if you could do me a favor, could you go to the rebrickable page and tell me how many parts it says the AT-AT has? It's like not everyone is seeing the same version of the webpage or something, very strange. You can just send me a private message if you want. If anyone else reading this wants to as well, I'd appreciate it.

Updated instructions are now available at http://rebrickable.com/mocs/raskolnikov/plus-size-atat If any of you are currently building an AT-AT, I recommend downloading these latest instructions, which include a number of minor tweaks and improvements and should incorporate most of the feedback that we've received so far. The parts list also has been updated, but the only change is that you need slightly fewer blue 1L technic pins. Thanks again for the feedback, and if you notice any other issues with the build or instructions, let us know. Edit (Dec. 21): Either there's a technical issue with the rebrickable page or I'm not clicking something right, but for some people it's not displaying the updates to the parts list or instructions, and it's linking to an older version of the instructions. If anyone's currently building the AT-AT, the most up-to-date instructions have "V5" at the end of the name of the pdf. It can be downloaded directly here: http://bricksafe.com/files/raskolnikov/plus-size-at-at/Plus-Size AT-AT - By Raskolnikov V5.pdf

Going in reverse order here... Yeah, nothing to worry about. At worst you'd end up with 4 extra $.01 pins. Lol, yeah, getting to it. I was best man at a wedding this weekend... lots of festivities. I'll get the update out there shortly, thanks for posting it in the meantime. I would be interested in seeing that. It wouldn't be too hard to incorporate different colors on the side, since it's just tiles over plates. You could easily substitute tan tiles or something (that dark flesh or burnt orange color or whatever it's called might be best, if adequate pieces are available -- I think the bright orange might be too garish). No offense taken at all haha, just musing about things on my own. (Not sure I agree about being on par with Cavegod's, though -- there are some phenomenal AT-AT builds out there, most of which seem to draw heavily from his. Mine was always just intended to be a "serviceable" AT-AT for those who like LEGO's UCS sets, playable models, dioramas, or collecting Imperial forces, but who don't necessarily want to commit a ton of resources to build the next greatest AT-AT. So feel free to suggest any improvements -- I may end up incorporating them onto my own pair of walkers.)
-
Thanks for those! It's super cool to see another one built. Judging by your previous post about the AT-STs, you might have some specific height requirements that you're aiming for. If not, though, you might find that the feet look a bit better in real life. I think a lot of the pictures I took have the body or head of the walker close to the camera, which makes the feet look misleadingly small. The side-on pic Schneeds took provides a pretty clear view of the real-life proportions: They still may be a bit small, and improving them definitely is possible -- it'll just require some thought. Anyway, curious to see what you do with it -- the more mods the better, imo.

Thanks! Looking forward to your pictures. All that feedback is really useful feedback, too. Much appreciated. Yeah, you're right. Looks like all it needs is a mini-instruction that says to put pin through the liftarm first? This one's my fault, since the picture instructions were messed up here and actually required backtracking. Right again, but I get to tease Legolijntje this time :) http://i.imgur.com/DQMzLd6.jpg I'd definitely be curious to see what you did there. I know it's not impossible -- but it is at least a question of whether you're willing to apply a maybe-going-to-break-something-but-hopefully-not amount of force.
-
Yeah, I think Legolijnte did as much as he could with that. I wasn't really thinking of directions when I built it, so I ended up making each leg differently. The legs on the left are mirror images of the legs on the right, but then each leg also differs depending on whether it's a front or back leg. So, some portions of the legs can be built 4x, and some components can be built 2x, but not any single entire leg can be built 2x. If it were an actual mass-market set, that would never fly. If TLG did it, I'm sure they'd do a whole left leg (2x), followed by a whole right leg (2x), and that'd be that. But I'm glad you were up to the challenge :) Should be smoother sailing after that. No, sorry, roughly the same size as the set, though. Maybe a stud shorter? Funnily enough, the 16 troopers in the back left are the Tyrant's contingent, so some of them have different faces under their helmets. Gotta keep track of that so they don't get mixed up with the others. Hrm, I'll check on this. The only collision I can think of off the top of my head are the inner "toes" of the feet. So if each leg is straight up and down, the inner toes collide. In real life it's not a huge deal because putting it into a walking pose alleviates the problem, or it can even stand straight if you don't mind a little flexing in the legs. The set would have had the same issue, but they simply removed the inner toes -- so that'd fix it, too (but I prefer to keep them to add stability when "walking"). Maybe as a result of this, some of your pins are not pushed in the whole way or something? Or maybe a step was missed? The technic and plates on the body of the AT-AT are pretty legal and exact, so far as I know. Edit: Took another look and didn't see any issues. If you have a picture, I'd look at it, though. Yeah, tell me about it, heh. Building digitally drives me nuts. Hope your plans for a brick-built version come to fruition :)

Cool, I definitely have wondered what other blurry ships are in that scene, since we can at least tell that they're not corvettes or transports. I don't suppose there are any clear images of the model(s) used in the film? Since we don't get a close up, I suppose the special effects artists might have used scraps or even coffee cups, for all we know.
-
Very appropriate. Glad to hear it, hope it doesn't disappoint! Also took a pic with minifigures for scale, but it's got me worrying that I've gone a little overboard with this hobby...

[FINISHED][2.2 meters long] Venator class star destroyer "ATELLES"
Raskolnikov replied to Kommander's topic in LEGO Star Wars
That looks amazing -- truly one of the definitive renditions of a Star Destroyer of any class! You must be so happy to have it finished. Also, I hope everyone sees it. Sometimes things get lost in the shuffle when you post an update to an existing thread. You might want to edit your first post or something so people know to scroll down. Having run into that problem myself, I know exactly what you're talking about. Your ship is bigger than mine, and the panels are thicker, so I dunno if this would work...but what I did was use http://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=76766#T=C , as "hooks" on which the bottom panels hang. The top part of the bracket is buried in plates and secured, and the bottom part slips into a receptacle attached to the frame of the ship. This mock-up kind of illustrates the concept: http://imgur.com/Xy1PjHR. Anyway, just throwing that out there if you want to try it. I imagine you're not looking to make any drastic changes at this point, though, heh. Also, if you don't mind my asking, why sell? If it's put on public display somewhere, that might be the best of all worlds. But don't you want it to be the centerpiece of your living room? -
Yeah man, it definitely is fun to pose it next to minifigures and snowspeeders and such -- really towers over them. Might still be able to make it looks small, though... Anyway, I just got a new table, making it much easier to put something else in the same picture as the Tyrant. Maybe I could take some better fleet shots, now.
-
Not sure, probably a little smaller -- it's close enough for me, though. I just made it big enough to hold a decent number of troopers and two pilots in the cockpit. I find that trying to be too exact when it comes to "minifigure-scale" can be a recipe for a headache, since minifigures just aren't shaped like humans. Some of the official sizes for Star Wars vehicles may also just be numbers that an author pulled out of a hat and can be inconsistent with film portrayals. Sure, just did it (see, I can learn how to use technology).
-
Haha, yeah I think so, but maybe it made it into a step later that I didn't look at. It's nothing that would throw a wrench in the building process, just a minor sturdiness issue. One of the 1x4 lbg plates is visible here: http://i.imgur.com/0I34p4h.jpg?1 Anyway, no worries. I was going to wait until we had feedback from a completed build (c'mon Schneeds) before thinking about revisions. Thanks!
-
Ah, that's a shame -- I'm looking forward to seeing pics when someone builds one! Btw, if you place a new order, get 4 extra 1x4 lbg plates. I think they may be needed on the underside of the AT-AT, where I attempted to improve a couple things for the instructions version of the model.
