Combining the futuron monorail with a 7745 passenger train
Doom2099 replied to AlmightyArjen's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Good start with the LDD! Have you thought about a blue brick stripe down the side, keeping with the 7745's white stripe, while maintaining the Futuron coloring? -
Very well done, lots of great details packed in. I really like the display base as well, makes it very display ready! Nice job.

Simpsons Collectable Minifigures aka Series 13 (non-official term)
Doom2099 replied to kasmca's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Seeing that picture of CMF Homer makes me a lot more excited about the line. The half closed eyes for the House were by far the worst aspect of an otherwise near perfect set, so I'm glad we'll have affordable options to replace them. Can't wait to see more, and with great accessories like that donut, this should be a blast in terms of extras. -
Ghostbusters 30th Anniversary CUUSOO set Discussion
Doom2099 replied to Itaria No Shintaku's topic in LEGO Licensed
I think this is a great idea, and should become a great set! Lego Ghostbuster minifigs and Ecto-1 should have lots of appeal. I do hope we'll get the firehall as well (it would be a great set to mix in with the modulars), but if the response is strong like it was with Minecraft, maybe we'll be in luck. -
Good news about Marvel being confident enough to start prepping Captain America 3! I've always thought Baron Zemo would make an excellent movie opponent.

As people have mentioned, I really like the wheels as well. But even more important, I think this is a great set on its own merits. It's really colorful, and the seals I think really add to it as opposed to detracting. The whole year of Great Vehicles looks fun.

Yes please! You may be able to guess I'm fond of him from my username. And since he's kicking around in the regular Marvel U right now, maybe we can dare to dream!

Combining the futuron monorail with a 7745 passenger train
Doom2099 replied to AlmightyArjen's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Sounds like a lot of fun. I remember building my own space trains all the time, and it was a blast mixing the two themes together. The classic white and blue of Futuron should look quite interesting on a regular city train. Have you thought about using LDD to try it out first before spending the money? Either way, I hope you'll share the result! -
Nice job recreating this in brick form! I really like the small details you've got put in, and it's even better with the different colored LEDs.

Hi, nice post about one of the best (if not the best) train Lego has every produced. I remember my first time building it, my thoughts were exactly like yours. This is a train built and designed to be as perfect as possible. Sadly, tricks are needed to keep it driving smoothly, but in terms of looks, it's a home run by Lego, and may become truly legendary as time goes on.

Thomas the Tank Engine and James the Red Engine

Really nice work! It brings the best of Lego and Thomas together in a spectacular fashion. No wonder it's a hit at shows! -

Nice idea and nice drawing and photos showing how easy it is to realize. This'll be useful, thanks! -
Outstanding! I'm so glad Lego is making enough historical characters that there are so many pieces nowadays to mix and match. Great work with the minifigs and the stadium!

MOC: Pennsylvania Railroad Class BB1 Electric
Doom2099 replied to dr_spock's topic in LEGO Train Tech
This is great! Thanks for showing it off, and including the history lesson as to how it changed over time. And of course, it's great having double the space to fit in all the PF components. -
I know everyone is already excited about the movie enough, but all this time waiting made me go back and watch the Clutch Powers movie. Despite its intended audience, I really enjoyed it! So many inside jokes, and I couldn't help myself from pausing just to check all the minifigures shirt prints, etc. What I'm trying to say is, if Clutch Powers can be that enjoyable to an AFOL, and filled with so many great things that catch the eye, how awesome is the Lego Movie going to be? A-List voices, and cinema quality production should make this a great movie-going experience, but even better, I look forward to slowly pausing my way through the blu-ray to see all the small details that are sure to be packed in. Maybe Clutch will even have a cameo?

The freight train is looking even more fun now. The overhead crane is looking sharp, and even a little bit of a rural theme is a nice change of pace. Looking forward to seeing more!

Since this seems to be revived, I just wanted to say that I think it's a great thread! With more and more licenses coming, it will be very interesting to see who keeps adding to their totals. For some reason, I don't think Lego and Disney are done with Johnny Depp. Maybe he'll be the long term winner?

The LEGO Movie Sets News and Discussion
Doom2099 replied to Itaria No Shintaku's topic in Special LEGO Themes
There are just too many cool possibilities with this movie! I hope we'll eventually be able to brickbuild all these characters floating around on Lego.com, and in the trailers. Still can't wait for that spaceship this summer!- 2,626 replies

I agree completely, keeping them separate from the start will save lots of wondering later. When you bring in new/old Lego, just sorting it out then in good light would be my suggestion.

Well with better pics of the new passenger train, I'm liking it more and more. I skipped RC trains, and it sounds like due to the terrible nose piece that that was a lucky break. I'm sure Lego won't make a similar mistake this time. Coming back into Lego again after a decade off, I was really surprised looking at the new planes and helicopters and their huge molded parts. But while complaining to a friend who's been out of Lego for even longer than me, I was surprised to hear he really likes them. While I think it doesn't look Lego-y enough, he says that the more realistic look will attract more casual buyers like himself, and presumably the kids and parents these starter trains are aimed at. The other small touches like the bike and level crossing are the kind of simple thing that Lego could (should?) throw into every passenger set, so I'm happy to see them. Also, it's nice to have straights instead of flexible track, it's just sort of funny that the platform looks really tiny and probably doesn't need a whole oval to make it fit properly. Looking forward to more information before it's release!

I think this is great. Really adds a nice level of realism to a layout. And thanks for the how-it-works video. Could be really useful!

Great job, and a great trick setting it all up. I'm almost afraid to see pics with the lights turned on, as it would take away some of the magic of this fantastic photo. Thanks for sharing!

I'm really liking the look of this! Even if the pricepoint is higher, it's still a nice way to try and bridge the creator buildings and modulars together. And with the multiple builds, the possibilities start to get really interesting!

TRAIN TECH Help, General Questions & Talk to the Staff
Doom2099 replied to WesternOutlaw's topic in LEGO Train Tech
I have that problem a lot. With a five long train, usually one magnet doesn't want to cooperate. Once they're aligned it goes back to being ok, I just wish they'd stay that way all the time.- 578 replies
