[OL - CH2B] Storming the Fort
Kolonialbeamter replied to The Sarge's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Wow, this is stunning, especially the minifig depiction, and more especially the archer on the right!! The guy hit in the neck while he fires a shot in agony... brilliant! It's violent, yet pacifistic, makes you wonder 'bout the absurd reasons for wars. Loving this entry -

[OL - FB2] The 'Commerce de Breshaun'
Kolonialbeamter replied to Kolonialbeamter's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Thanks to all of you, glad you like her Both is sort of french after all, so they go hand in hand Yo, she has a tumblehome, very little though, 2 to 3°. Pretty sure that goes here as well! Heck, so far basically the only type of ships I've been building were first rates ( )... never thought I'd lay hand on a schooner design (didn't even know what that was), or whatnot. The window ornamentation consists basically of the same elements as the fleur de lys' 'frame', so 3742 and those dragon wing thingies, attached to a 11833, which is attached to the hull via headlight bricks. Sorry, can't provide additional renders atm, system is busy. But the guns are pretty basic, and the boat is the same basic design as that of my small shipyard boat, just larger and more refined. Haha, I wouldn't feel well without you 'criticising' my sails The shape of the staysails doesn't have to be triangular, I (well, google) found a lot of examples of them being almost rectangular, at least the lower ones. Of course you're right, no sane captain would fly all these sails at once, but I just add sails for show purposes only... and the ship is a 'F', so it not only is fast (a barque rig was quite capable for both running and close-hauling), but also has to look fast -

[OL - FB1] Prospecting on Île de Zeus
Kolonialbeamter replied to Gideon's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Since it's the end of the month (well, actually the beginning of the new one...) you're likely going to be told soon. If you build a prospecting scene sooner in the month, you might want to PM the leaders to get to know the result asap. -
It's quite easy, actually. I count - I get some DB, and maybe more benefits later (tax refund, or whatnot). Anyway, the yield here is better than with any 3+ FB

I was wondering, is there any size limitation for the .lxf file? With larger models starting at around 2MB I keep getting the following error message: Exception in thread "Thread-5" java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: (details in the 'spoiler') If it's not the file's size, any idea what else it could be? I used both version 0.0.0.5 and 0.0.0.6beta, standard .sc files. If you need, I could PM you the .lxf file. Also, is it possible to render several .lxf files into one render, as it is with pov-ray? If not, but it could be made possible in a future version, I'd be thrilled!

The Empire of Oleon: Sign-up and Discussion
Kolonialbeamter replied to Sebeus I's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
These are indeed difficult times. But the passing of a King is never an easy affair, especially given the mysterious circumstances of His Majesty's death. Everyone is interpreting would-be 'evidence' in the light of current relationships between our factions. So something that's most likely just been a flask with His Majesty's favorite drink suddenly becomes a 'vial of poison'. The High Council can only urge everyone to remain calm, and not make hasty assumptions - or worse - rash accusations! This is a week of mourning for Oleon, to honor His late Majesty. It would be an affront to his heritage to lapse into petty dispute! The new King will be enthroned soon - and his reign will mean a prosperous and peaceful time for our great nation. But foreign agents and usurpers be warned: Any interference with the uninterrupted and divine royal line of succession will only result in increased tensions! -
Kai, thank you sooooo much for this Great work, feels so fresh now, just like spring Now, back to counting, I'm halfway through my FB minifig registration. Appreciate that you included digital minifigs

The Empire of Eslandola: Sign-up and Discussion
Kolonialbeamter replied to kabel's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
If you keep using 3062 as top masts, flex tubes (they aren't as flexible as their name suggests) might be an option. You could also use the 'official' combi of 6538 and 32062 for the top masts. To strenghten the 'intersections' between the lower part of the masts and the upper parts, you could make use of 3176, or some equivalent.- 780 replies

The Empire of Oleon: Sign-up and Discussion
Kolonialbeamter replied to Sebeus I's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
For all we know, the exact reason of His Majesty's death remain a mystery. The Order of the Faith is safeguarding any information. There's rumors however, that his death is the tragic result of a hunting accident, while attending the annual Royal Spring Hunt in the region of Bothnia. -
The Empire of Oleon: Sign-up and Discussion
Kolonialbeamter replied to Sebeus I's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Announcement of the High Council Le Roi est mort! With great sorrow the Royal Family has to inform the loyal subjects of the realm that today, on the 31st of the month of March in the year 616, our beloved King Stéphan II has unexpectedly passed away. The High Council hereby orders a national week of mourning, all flags are to be set to half-mast, and all Oleanders are requested to express their sympathies with the Royal Family. The line of succession is uninterrupted. After this week of mourning the brother of late King Stéphan II will be crowned Monarch of Oleon. It is now that we must stand as one people! The King is dead - but the Monarchy will endure, so Oleon shall live! -
[OL-Ch2A] Fort in Astrapi, Île de Zeus
Kolonialbeamter replied to Gideon's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
This... is... great... !!! Excellent entry, Gideon Amazing, how an early fort can look so perfect. Love all about it, and story and presentation are great, too. The black background really adds a menacing feeling, and that last shot just screams 'Don't mess with us!' This fits the Île de Zeus perfectly. -

[OL - CH2B] The Diary of Derelin Magini
Kolonialbeamter posted a topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Ahoy once more, mateys! I'd like to present my entry for Challenge II B: Strike your Colors! Warning: Contains not only much text, but later also violent scenes, blood, and general misery... better go grab some popcorn first, to enjoy this properly Here goes. When Ivo Fortesque set foot on the island, nothing was the way he expected things to be. None of his men were here! Instead, all he and his crew found were burnt remains of a wooden structure. There was no sign of any living soul. Fortesque was terrified. What had happened while he was gone? As they continued searching for clues, a member of his crew found some pages of what seems to have been a diary, buried in the sand. As they deciphered the increasingly shaky hand writing, they froze in agony... The Diary of Derelin Magini First entry: After leaving ten volunteers behind on the island our captain named 'Berelli', we sailed north-east, only to be caught in a storm, causing much damage to the Santa Clara. Fortunately, we found another island close by. After some repairs to the ship, the captain set sails back to Terreli with only a sparse crew, to report to the King about this new paradise-like island here. He promised to return with more supplies in a matter of two months. We – that is another twelve volunteers, including myself – have so far set up a small outpost here at the beach. It's been a tough job these past days, chopping down trees, building a cabin, setting up a defensive perimeter... I'm tired as hell, but we're all pretty positive about being here, and eager to start exploring this island. I wonder what riches await us! Second entry: Yesterday we took a first trip into the jungle, looking for fresh water, since our supply will only last another three days. We didn't find any river or creek so far. As nice as the isle looks from the beaches, all that vegetation in the interior gives me the creeps. I find it hard to orientate, and the heat is awful. But what I find most irritating, is that the natives we saw on our arrival here seem to have disappeared. Of course it was Velasques who had to tell a story about them being evil demons, going to kill us all. I'd much rather believe we're just not that interesting to them. Third entry: Still no fresh water. And we cannot penetrate further into the interior, the jungle is too bloody dense. Tensions are rising here, Velasques is turning into a source of trouble, scaring everybody. I don't want to believe what he's ranting, but I could swear during the night I heard the sound of drums coming from the jungle. This is turning into a nightmare. Fourth entry: Velasques has gone mad! He ran off into the jungle tonight, and returned covered in blood with the head of a native this morning! What has he done, he's doomed us all!! Fifth entry: Drums! All night long the sound of drums echoing from the jungle! No sleep, no water, no relief. We're all praying to the Gods... Sixth entry: They're coming! There's no way out... The following is a depiction of what could have happened to the brave volunteers. And a 360° view: For higher resolutions follow links to flickr! about: This scene was to some extend inspired by the fate of 'La Navidad', the first Spanish settlement in the New World, established by Christopher Columbus. Lego wise, well, all parts exist, all is buildable, just to display minifig action I turned gravity 'off'. Minifig placement in LDD is no fun at all, and the roof of that hut must have been the single most annoying thing I've ever build digitally. However, I kind of liked portraying all the bloody stuff The renders are made with Bluerender, which has the advantage of being much faster than Pov-ray, and also more realistic in lighting. Only thing is the water here doesn't really 'shine' in light transparent blue. Oh, and the 360° view consists of 100 renders, taking two full days to finish. I hope you like it, C&C as always very welcome!- 22 replies

Ahoy again, second FB incoming: The 'Commerce de Breshaun' The 'Commerce de Breshaun' is the first capital ship built in Breshaun's 'Royal Shipyards'. She was ordered and paid for by the Breshaun Chamber of Commerce, and donated to the 'Office Royal de la Marine' as a sign of gratitude for continued Royal support and investment. Constructed with a sleek hull, and rigged as a barque, she is a fast and agile sailer, able to keep up with the top speed ships of the Oleander merchant fleet. May her voyages be blessed by Poseidon so she will bring fortune to the Empire! Next, with a reduced number of sails, for you to see some deck details: And last, but not least - and almost already a tradition - IFS shaming: about: As always, all parts exist. This time a bit more emphasis on sails and rigging, although the hull also comes with some unique features. Her hull is exactly 100 studs long at the water line, making her slightly larger than 'La Recouvrance', and her beam is 23 studs wide. Credits for the 'Fleur de Lys' design go to Gideon! As you said, works out well on a ship I hope you enjoy her looks, C&C welcome! Vive le Roi!

[ESL-MCRA] There's Gold In These Waters!
Kolonialbeamter replied to Umbra-Manis's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
As Capt Wolf said, interesting perspective. And good job on the posing of the diver. The cargo, and especially the coins are a fine addition. Some nitpicking: You might have better chosen a blue surface, and maybe colored the ship's deck in a color that's not reddish brown (tan, for example). Keep it up!- 4 replies

[OL - FB1] Prospecting on Île de Zeus
Kolonialbeamter replied to Gideon's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Nice! Simple, but very effective. Convincing digging action and nice minifigs Hope the geologist's name is a good omen -
Kudos on a very cool ship, and congrats to having launched the first SotL in the waters of New Terra She's on the top end of number of guns on a prefabs-only hull that still looks harmonious. And I really dig her colors, the dark red along with the tan broadsides, highlighted by golden parts - beautiful! Not a fan of the red fences for side gallery windows, but that's just a matter of taste. Great job rigging that pretty lady Just, you could have added a spanker (sail) to the mizzen mast. Or is there one meant to be attached to that boom? If not, that 'useless arm' is quite an homage to every official Lego ship ever made Four months that were worth the time spent! I hope hurricane Helga or her offspring fear her!

[ESL - CH 2B] Why did you burn it?!
Kolonialbeamter replied to Elostirion's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Some dense action going on here! Great entry, very convincing build and an excellent story to go along with it! Love how you depicted the burnt foliage, the irregular base is spot on, minifigs carefully selected, and those natives in the jungle - quite sneaky. Is that cat on the last pic meant to be a jaguar? My condolences for your loss of Juevo. But Oleon is very grateful you liberated the officer. We will not forget your brave sacrifice!- 12 replies
