[COR - CH 2A]: Setting Up Defenses
Kolonialbeamter replied to Puvel's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Hey, another great entry I forgot to comment on! Sorry I love the landscape here, all looks so colorful and natural - I really love you added a small pond - one could almost forget there's military involved. Those early palisades are well done, and those larger wheels for the guns add to the perceived caliber of the artillery. The watchtower is a fine addition, well executed. Just... the powder storage directly underneath might... backfire... or rather 'upfire' All in all, great entry (I'm repeating myself ) Keep it up! -
Angry bullets, happy snipers - what's more to have? Characters are great, the artillery emplacement looks very convincing, and I love the slight climb of the landscape, really giving the impression of 'cliff ahead!' Great entry!

How dare I miss to comment on this beauty! Shame, shame, shame... That's one of the finest landscaping and foliage efforts I've seen here All the different levels of vegetation, the transition between rocks and earth, the SNOTed base - just remarkable! And not to forget minifig placement, storyline... this has it all!! Top entry

[OL - FB1] The 'Royal Shipyards' in Breshaun
Kolonialbeamter replied to Kolonialbeamter's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Thanks guys, much appreciated That's how we roll in Oleon *smileywithshades* But for real, the 'Corderie Royale' in Rochefort sort of looks like that (well, that's been the inspiration). And that's just the place to make ropes- 24 replies

[OL - CH2A] Shields and Daggers

Haha, try yelling at it! Sure helped me. Hmm... I've seen it done in MOCs already, but if this way doesn't work for you, there's always other methods to get an angle. Thanks, Garmadon, much appreciated. But honestly, I'm still kind of surprised the water generated so much attention Wow, thank you, kabel, that means a lot- 21 replies

[SR-CH2B] Victory Is Short Lived
Kolonialbeamter replied to dr_spock's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Lovely scene... well, except for the dead, of course I really enjoy your building style, always an eye for the essentials in a build, slightly exaggerated and cartoonish, always triggering an emotional response and shining an intended spotlight on it. This outpost is both hilarious and very Lego-ish: No matter how small, there's always a prison cell I love the contrast between the vast sea area and the tiny tower. Also, great title Keep it up! -
[OL - FB2] Royal Merchant Shipping
Kolonialbeamter replied to Capn Frank's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Been waiting for the 'Twins' all evening Worth it! These are splendid, Phred! TLG just knew Oleon was gonna happen when they produced these hull elements. Great color scheme, they look fairly fast, nice sails , and I'm still amazed how you managed to jam a SNOTed deck into these tiny prefabs Thing is, they'll never get captured, as enemy captains will always be confused, thinking they're drunk, like: 'Great, now I have to deal with four ships!' Too bad for Challenge II, though. -
Earthwork fortifications - Ch2a
Kolonialbeamter replied to blackdeathgr's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Haha, Field General Nah, seriously, I like this a lot. Some great earth work here. It really looks like they're digging in, plus you gave a convincing explaination as to why this is necessary That gun port or what you call it might be a tad small, though. But, doesn't matter... Impenetrable defenses MWAHAHA -
Wow, great entry, Faladrin! Splendid boat design, and the natives' catamaran looks top The story, however... well, smells like propaganda. At the very most it may have been some sort of miscommunication. Oleander priests, especially the Followers of Zeus, are peace loving people, only meaning to teach those poor natives the amenities of civilization. Keep it up!

[OL - FB1] The 'Royal Shipyards' in Breshaun
Kolonialbeamter replied to Kolonialbeamter's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Thank you very much for your comments, glad you like it. Makes me want to build some additions right away. CD! You should know better, as you've proven with your fantastic gigantomaniac shipyard But, yeah, rendering really large facilities (30000+ parts) is an issue The arch is 3x2 wedge plates and 3x2 wedges only (the keystone is 'decorated' with 4x2 wedge plates to appear larger), held only by gravity. It's all tight, without gaps. When you look closely, the arch cannot 'escape' to the sides, and the keystone prevents it all from collapsing. By my understanding it should be buildable. But it's only meant to withstand simple gravity. It's not (inner) child proof Well, I'm not so sure about the ship either. But I wanted to present something larger than a rowboat on that 32x32 base. Think of the river being very close, so it'll just need a 'kick' to be launched Haha, well, maybe the elite will have to use earplugs. With that office I kind of got a little carried away... But being intendant of the Royal Shipyard is probably a prestigeous position to have, so it might feature some fancy office- 24 replies

[OL - CH2A] Shields and Daggers
Kolonialbeamter replied to Kolonialbeamter's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Thanks, Kai The flowers first were all green, but then I thought, what the heck, let's have pretty beaches! Thanks, CG. Well, the water was annoying to build, but at least I knew the ways in which it would likely annoy me - which it did 'Shore business' on the other hand is still sort of new territory (lame pun totally intended) to me, so I felt pretty retarded at first, not being able to make bricks look rock-ish. And since things are never my fault, I had - of curse course - to yell at (digital) bricks- 21 replies

The Empire of Oleon: Sign-up and Discussion
Kolonialbeamter replied to Sebeus I's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
I added it here and here. Plus, registered it as a FB via the FB-Form, if it's that what you mean. No license yet. Also didn't add it to the 'Breshaun' thread's first post, 'cause I didn't want to screw your routine. Did I forget anything? -
[ESL-FB1] Cotton for Salida Este
Kolonialbeamter replied to Umbra-Manis's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Looking very good. First I wasn't even sure whether this was a render or real What program(s) did you use? Seems cotton is New Terra's cash crop #1 That lazy guy is a fine addition. I hope Uncle is watching The connection between 3741 and 33291 seems a bit odd. But that's not your fault. Some nitpicking (if you care for 'realism' in digital builds): Did you use olive green for the flower stem? If so, 33291 doesn't come in that color. Both come in green, however. But maybe you used green, and my eyes are just playing tricks on me. 99780 (that you used for the base) doesn't come in reddish brown. Try not just copy-pasting the plants, but add more variety, by rotating them in different directions, and using different compositions. Also, to make minifigs look more real - and not just have them stand around - make them 'move' by rotating their body parts. Keep it up!- 11 replies

The Empire of Oleon: Sign-up and Discussion
Kolonialbeamter replied to Sebeus I's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
FB1 up: The 'Royal Shipyards' in Breshaun Not (yet) licensed, as I'm not sure I'll have the 50 DB for the medium artisan license this month, but I'll post it in the Breshaun thread right away. -
Hi there, inhabitants of New Terra, pretty late, but here goes, presenting my first FB this month: The 'Royal Shipyards' in Breshaun With the ever growing demand for new ships in the waters of New Terra the naval yards in mainland Oleon alone cannot keep up. So some time ago already the 'Office Royal de la Marine' had decided to set up a branch of the 'Royal Shipyards' in the city of Breshaun, providing high-quality shipbuilding and ship maintenance expertise on-site. The compound is flourishing. It's constantly growing in size, and new buildings and installations are being added regularly, obvious proof of Oleon's expanding presence on the waves, as well as Breshaun's increasing importance for the Empire. Last month I presented a small peripheral facility to you, this time we're visiting the entrance of the 'Royal Shipyards' main compound situated directly at the mouth of Breshaun's harbor. about: Not much to say about it, could have been larger, but this month was pretty crowded. All is buildable, I'm kind of cool with the way the gate's arch turned out, the rest is rather regular business. The 'Crown-Wheel-Anchor'TM is the registered emblem of the 'Royal Shipyards' The architectural style is influenced by buildings I saw in Rochefort, France. It was a fun build, experienting with two colored walls and a SNOTed ceiling, but making the rider hold that letter was a real annoying job More of this shipyard is likely to follow. Thanks for watching, C&C as always very welcome! Vive le Roi!

[OL - CH2A] Shields and Daggers
Kolonialbeamter replied to Kolonialbeamter's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Thanks all of you guys for your input and suggestions, glad you like it Using slopes I could maintain the (almost) rectangular shape of the base. Maybe I'll do a revamp for test purposes Count me out for two reasons Ever the warmonger Actually... no. At least not in Bluerender - less than 10 minutes. But I have one pic of the first scene rendered in pov-ray... and it took almost 20 hours Haha, please tell that to potential invading parties! 'Don't touch our beaches! They are too pretty to walk on!!' I'm sure they'll understand- 21 replies

Yes, something that makes it look like used linen, or whatever these sails were made out of. You might want to check this sail making tutorial for some inspiration. Keep it up! -

Variations of Fortifications around BoBS
Kolonialbeamter replied to Captain Braunsfeld's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Good stuff, Captain! But where are those Eslandolans everybody is talking about? I see blue soldiers, red ones, crazy personal... and vegetation... Honestly, this is a pretty cool MOC, especially in the light of faction 'arching' building efforts. Not everything is DBs! Much appreciated -
Ahoy, mateys! This is my entry for Challenge II A. Shields and Daggers The race for New Terra is heating up. More and more land is being claimed every day. Fortune seekers from everywhere are heading out looking for riches, and settlers follow. But most newly established settlements are very short lived, perrishing as quickly as they were set up, either due to a lack of supplies β or defensive capacity. Everyone knows the terrifying stories of the very first settlement attempts of the Mardians and Eslandolans, everyone knows the consequences of neglected protection. New Terra isn't quite the paradise it looks like. So in his infinite wisdom His Majesty the King of Oleon has decided that all colonizing efforts undertaken by the loyal subjects of the realm will be determined, but cautious ones: The claim we lay to the land will stretch no further than the reach of our swords. So as we claim the Γle de Zeus for our glorious Empire, His Majesty has dispatched additional King's Guards to the island. Their task is not only to crew the forts that are being set up along with new settlements, but also to establish a multitude of smaller gun batteries along the shores, shielding the Γle in all directions. These defensive positions surely aren't enough to repel a fully-flegded invasion, but they are certainly capable of dealing with smugglers, pirates and other predators. And when push really comes to shove, 'La Royale' will always fly Oleon's colors on the waves. Small patrol boats might not be seen as mighty swords, but handled with determination and skill, a dagger can do serious damage, too. about: As always, everything except for the vessel's sails can be build. The water is a delicate matter, consisting of many rows of 1x2 plates linked by 1x1 round plates wherever possible. This is my first ever attempt at rockwork, and it only caused me to despair and curse a high two digit number of times... Not sure if it's to the liking of the experts among you. Sorry for the back of that cliff looking so dull, but all I managed to come up with in order to 'close' it were slopes. Oh, and the boat's curvature is done with hinge bricks, all held in place by a multitude of flex tubes and clips, most of them well hidden below the deck. I hope you enjoy, C&C welcome! Vive le Roi!

[Esl - Ch II A] : Fort Severus
Kolonialbeamter replied to Tezclatipoca's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Solid entry, fitting the category very well The way you build that casemate holding the gun reminds me of 6266 Cannon Cove from the early 90s. Nice early fortification, and I'm a huge fan of that flag with the apple Good luck, and keep up the good work!- 14 replies

Yeah! Good one, BD! A necessary build well executed. And it fits the early development stage of Astrapi nicely To your question, I think if you use smaller plate sizes, but more instead, mixing the 50 shades of grey Lego provides, maybe SNOTing some rocks, you'll get more rock diversity. But I'm a sucker at rockwork myself, surely you'll get more competent answers from others.

Good job! Nicely proportioned ship, good choice of colors, the jumper plates based tumblehome works on this scale, sails are great... the name is not so, however The beakhead looks a bit too 'heavy', and it might use some headrails. Also, I suggest to add a spanker... the sail that is! All in all a very good ship! Oleon approves
