  3. Ahoy ya scurvy sea dogs, Another day - another ship, this time: The 'Gladiateur' Gladiateur is a veteran brig of war, built for La Royale about a half a decade ago by the Royal Shipyards in Quilbignon. For most of her service life she was stationed in New Oleon, but now the Admiralty has decided to assign her to the New Terra Fleet. In preparation for this, she recently underwent an extended overhaul, during which her hull was structurally improved, and she received an armament of sixteen 12-pounder long guns. Experienced and well armed, Gladiateur is now entering the arena that is the Eastern Brick Seas, ready to strike devastating blows to her adversaries. And in comparison to the IFS: about: Yes, those really are prefabs! Well, in fact only the upper bow/stern elements are, the rest of the hull is made of curved slopes. Gladiateur is based on an older design, but being sort of the only of my prefab ships, that I really liked, I thought she'd deserve her place here in BoBS, and renewed her. Gladiateur is no spectacular ship, but she's a fighting workhorse, right what's needed on the waves these days - I hope you can like her despite her simplicity. C&C welcome! Vive le Roi!
  4. Great to see all the interest already I'll sign up for the hunt asap, but first I need to get me a ship for this afloat. It'll be a 5A2 going by the name of Diligente. Nice light effect in the build, Bregir. The poor undersecretary needs some fresh air... and a shave Good job setting this up
  5. Ahoy, laddies! As the Lord Chancellor said, there will be ships. But let's start small, shall we? Presenting: 'Le Protecteur' Being a light topsail schooner, agile and with a shallow draft, Le Protecteur excels at patrol duty in difficult waters, anti pirates sweeps, and reconnaissance missions, freeing La Royale's much needed heavy hitters for more challenging ventures. Crewed by experienced men, and captained by an able sea dog Le Protecteur will surely master the tasks ahead of her. about: Some of you might have recognized the resemblance to La Recouvrance. That's no coincidence. But Le Protecteur was in fact the ship to be launched first, and La Recouvrance was modeled only afterwards. I just never came around to post the ship, and the actual need to do so only arose... well, recently. As always, all can be built. And for quite some time I did have an urge to really build this ship... but then other ships happened Just FYI, her length at the waterline is 57 studs, LOA is 85, and she's 18 studs wide. For now she'll be a class 3A, let's see if that changes with the next ship list. C&C welcome! Vive le Roi!
  6. Color me really stupid, but I don't quite get the recruitment formula... Each ship brings its class level + 5 men per Crew level. So a 2A would bring 25 men. 2A, class 2, crew size 2... result: 25 men... I'm no math-head, though
  7. Oleon's embassador to Namere was tasked to kindly ask for the whereabouts of the Commerce de Breshaun and the Scimitar. Oleon hereby officially requests someone roll a die to determine if there's going to be a build-off between Oleon and Namere. Oh, and... better roll that die well, or the embassador might come knock on your door, too!
  8. And finally: Drastic Measures - Part III The Oleander embassador to Namere 'knocking' on the doors of the government palace in Balmin, demanding an answer in the case of the two captured trade ships Commerce de Breshaun and Scimitar. about: This build is meant to simply serve as the base for Oleon's claim against Namere, hopefully allowing us to enter into a build-off. But this is not 'what's coming' I hope you enjoy it anyway. C&C welcome! Vive le Roi!
  9. Thanks, guys, for likeing the build and the story so far That's the Secretary of State of the Navy The Lord Chancellor himself will enter the stage... now: Drastic Measures - Part II "Walk with me!", Lord Chancellor Calida said to the Secrétaire d'Etat de la Marine, who had just arrived at the Palais Royal de Granoleon. "As I understood it, you have a proposal to make", he continued after a while. "Your eminence", replied the Secrétaire "First of all I believe you are aware of the severeness of the situation. We need more ships for La Royale!" "It's done!" Calida was a man of clear words. "Namere," the Secrétaire continued, only to be cut off by the Lord Chancellor. "Namere will be dealt with," he replied. The Secrétaire stopped and looked at Calida, who seemingly focussed something in the far distance. "Does this mean..." Calida interrupted him again: "Mr. Secretary, I believe you have come here with a proposal for me, have you not?" "I have, your eminence." Pause. "We have to do something about the threat that pirating poses to our merchant operations! And I don't just mean better protection. We must act, we must strike! We need to..." The Secrétaire hesitated. Calida's view was still focussed on that remote spot. "Get to the point!", he hissed at the Secrétaire. "I believe we need to establish a joint operation with Eslandola... and Corrington, your eminence." Silence. The Secrétaire was certain this would be his last day in office, maybe even his last day on Earth. His powdered wig grew heavy on his head. After what felt like an eternity, the Lord Chancellor slowly turned towards the Secrétaire and starred right through him. "Wheels have been set in motion already." Something is coming
  10. Does ones side need a foothold on the island now in order to be able to join the fight? Does belonging to a faction matter at all, since this will likely stay limited to private operations - unless open war with Mardier is desired, or an entire faction decides to crush the Grand Duchy along with Mardier. Can one just join the battle next month? If this continues over quite some weeks, will none of the forces committed to this be able to participate in the following MCRAs, or is it possible to just opt in and out of the battle every few weeks, or until a certain deadline each month? In general: How fixed is any commitment?
  11. Wow, cool greeeaat map! Thanks for putting this together, Mike. Sure helps to get an overview
  12. The High Council is honored to announce that for his continued support of Oleon's course on the waves, and for his devotion to La Royale, Dukesc is hereby promoted to the rank of Contre-Amiral. May 22nd, 616AE Signed, The Secretary of State of the Navy This will grant him a more active involvement in Oleon's leadership - and hopefully a +1 in relations with Poseidon Congrats, Dukesc!

  14. Ahoy mateys, what a busy short month this is, so let's get straight to it: Drastic Measures - Part I Looking from the balcony, his eyes wandered from ship to ship. The Secrétaire d'Etat de la Marine was in no good mood. Although Quilbignon was as busy a port as never before, and despite the fact that the latest shipping numbers had skyrocketed, the depleted fleet was all he could think of. "Something needs to be done about this!", he mumbled into the gentle spring air. "Have this letter delivered to our embassador to Namere! They aren't going to like it, but neither do I." He was still outraged. The Commerce de Breshaun and the Scimitar, both ships had been captured by privateers coming from Namere, as several reports suggested. "Oleon has no quarrel with Namere", he thought "so why in the Brick Seas would they prey on our merchants?! Was it really them? Was it a misunderstanding - or a prelude to open war?" He didn't have an answer - which didn't help his bad mood. "And have my carriage readied! I need to get to Granoleon." The Secrétaire hesitated, weighing his words. "I have a proposal for the Lord Chancellor, that he might not like." "Oh, and before I forget", he continued "Have this here brought to the captain of The Galaxie!" "What is it, Sir?", his adjutant asked. The Secrétaire turned to the window and looked over the port again. "Orders. And a promotion." about: This is a story build to kick off some things. Building wise there's not much to it, lots of work, but in the end 'only' some recycled ideas and repetition. I hope Dukesc's The Galaxie is recognizable. And if you add some minifig hands to those flex hoses used on both ships, all is buildable - they just don't come in LDD. Stay tuned for more C&C welcome! Vive le Roi!
  15. Just want you to know that I think this is a lovely idea and I very much appreciate your efforts
  16. Just drop a note somewhere in the property license form stating this is a prospecting scene.
  17. Psst... wanna buy some copper? Soooo, no wish to be sunk by pirates... hmm... what about privateers? Or Sea-Rats? You need to be really precise these days
  18. Welcome back, LegoEomer Please check your PM! Oleon's islands from this map are #3, #8 and #12.
  19. Nope, not really agreeing here. But it's not a big deal, and doesn't even really matter, let's just wait for some official word
  20. Puffin's Curse was stricken last month already, not destroyed for fun. For fun we had target practise on HMS Fernando Of course there's not gonna be any gaming, that's why I asked leadership, so let's just wait for some official word
  21. Thanks, Maxim Puffin's Curse doesn't exist any longer. Also, the other 3A and lower ships, you can strike them from that list, they won't be used as faction warships driftwood I'll let you know what's being decided on this matter.
  22. Good point. Still think there has to be a line somewhere, as it it the 'home country' sending replacements, and the availability of driftwood can not seriously be considered an excuse not to send ships. I'll ask leadership on this Nooooooooooo It's The Faith that helps. Of course those of you who only believe in money and filthy lucre will never understand
  23. In general, yes. But one license was captured by two members, and they have yet to decide what to do with it. If you want me to, I can let you know as soon as I know. That's driftwood, not ships
