L’Ordre Royal et Militaire de l’Étoile d’Ardros - The Royal and Military Order of the Star of Ardros The Royal and Military Order of the Star of Ardros is a military order of chivalry founded in October 616AE by His Majesty King Philip I and named after the historic region of Ardros, ancestral estate of the House of Ardros - the Kings of Oleon. It is intended as a reward for exceptional officers, and is notable as the first decoration that can be granted to non-nobles. The order has three classes: Grand’Croix (Grand Cross) Commandeur (Commander) Chevalier (Knight) Eligibility: Military officers of the True Faith actively serving in His Majesty’s army or navy, including non-nobles. Awarded for: Distinguished long term military service and exceptional merit. Rewards: Grand’Croix: monthly pension of 100DB Commandeur: monthly pension of 50DB Chevalier: monthly pension of 25DB

Principles How this works in-game. Read the following carefully – if you have questions, feel free to ask in the Oleon Intro-Thread. The list of noble titles (in ascending order): Knight of the Realm (Chevalier du Royaume) → Baron (Baron) → Count (Comte) → Marquis (Marquis) → Duke (Duc) → Duke and Peer of Oleon (Duc et Pair d'Oleon) → Prince (Prince) Members of Oleon can be knighted for outstanding achievements, or generally after one full year of active participation. Active participation up to Count means regularly showing up in the forum, being available by PM, licensing properties or ships from time to time. If members don't want their main sigfigs knighted, they can use a secondary character for development (imagine a wealthy donor, business partner... or even arch-enemy). Once knighted members' sigfigs receive their own crest (of their own or our choosing – consider that any Lego-based design can be used for this purpose – hand in an idea, we'll make the crest!), which will be extended (see below) with the character's achievements (noble titles, certain orders, high military/religious ranks, etc.) For continued excellence (after each year of active participation, or more outstanding achievements) one will 'level up' to Baron, then Count, Marquis, Duke. Once the title of Baron is reached, (imaginary) land (not in New Terra) is awarded as a fief: Baron – Barony (Baronnie), Count – County (Comté), Marquis – March (Marquisat), Duke – Duchy (Duché) As a result, sigfigs will henceforth carry the noble title 'Baron of …', 'Count of …', etc. With a fief comes a monthly income, increasing with each title: Duchy: 300DB, March: 200DB, County: 100DB, Barony: 50DB, Note that these numbers are subject to possible change. As sigfigs can 'level up', they can also be stripped of their titles: Continuous lack of participation → title by title, year after year, down to the title of Knight (which cannot be revoked), Switching faction → all titles and privileges are revoked, General treason → all titles and privileges can be revoked, a royal pardon is possible. In order to be granted the title of Marquis, every Count has to organize a royal property building event beforehand (property will go to the crown), to practice organization skills, and to show one's loyalty to the crown. From the title of Marquis onward, in order to maintain active participation, at least once every two months a property or ship must be licensed. A lack of participation will result in an immediate cut of income of 50% for the time active participation is lacking. Once the title of Duke and Peer of Oleon is achieved, another Barony to be leveled up will be granted, plus the original Duchy will become irrevocable (= title for life). Although irrevocable, income from a lifetime Duchy will be decreased by 50DB/month, month after month, if active participation is lacking. The rules about treason and switching factions still apply.

Le Médaillon des Deux Épées - The Medal of the Two Swords The Medal of the Two Swords is a medal for outstanding bravery on the fields of battle and at sea. It is one of the oldest and most highly regarded decorations in His Majesty’s Royal Forces, especially among the common soldiers, who are the main beneficiaries of its prestige and benefits. Eligibility: The medal can be awarded to common soldiers and sailors as well as non commissioned officers who swore their faithful oaths to His Majesty and hold this oath sacred. Awarded for: Exceptional bravery in the face of the enemy and heroic military deeds. Higher classes of the Medal of the Two Swords can be obtained through repeated acts of heroic bravery, and each consecutive decoration will bring more prestige to its owner, as well as more benefits. The Most established Noble Houses of Oleon and their Fiefs Ardros The House of Ardros - the Royal House - proudly looks upon an uninterrupted bloodline of kings that stretches back hundreds of years, and that bases their name on the ancient region of Ardros, one of the heartlands of Oleon. Covering the valley of the Pantac River, Ardros is dominated by gently rolling hills and vast forests, with Granoleon as biggest city and capital of Oleon, situated at the northern end of the Bay of Sarrant. Pontia Pontia is a province in Western Oleon, centering around the rivers Chanon and Roisel. Near the delta area of both rivers lies its capital Allondrelle - overseeing and guarding the Great Western Bay, and with it all Oleander trade with the western lands of Halos. Pontia is also a core province of Oleon, and the grain basket of the Kingdom due to its rich and fertile soils. The region gives its name to the House of Pontia, which is de facto the oldest noble house in all of Oleon, and has been rivaling Ardros for power since before the days of King Arltrees. Courtia Together with Ardros to its East and Pontia to its West, Courtia forms the heart of Oleon. In terms of economic strength, the province is behind its coastal neighbors. But politically, Courtia is a capital player. Not only because it’s here that the Followers of Zeus traditionally have their power base, but more so since the House of Courtia regularly finds itself in between the two great houses of Ardros and Pontia, whose rivalry it often utilizes to its own advantage. For two centuries now the dukes of Courtia have supported the House of Ardros, which tremendously increased the influence of the Order of the Faith, stabilized Oleon as a whole, and allowed both houses to flourish. However, the recent enthronement of Philip I. has already lead to first strains in this almost holy alliance. Vele For almost two hundred years now the House of Genaro has been ruling over the province of Vele, a coastal region of largely rural character with a rocky and unforgiving shoreline that borders Ardros to the East. Its capital Saint Vele is one of only a few large cities in the province. Its traditionally important harbor is home to many merchants and lately even banking houses which helped transform Saint Vele into a center of commerce second only to Granoleon. To a large degree this success is owed to the fiscal talent of the current duke, Pierre Lavalette Genaro, who in a matter of years managed to not only turn Vele into an economic powerhouse, but also restored the long lost prestige of House Genaro. For his accomplishments, the Duke of Vele was appointed Oleon’s Intendant Général des Finances. Already, he is considered the rising star at the Royal Court - a role that is not seen without envy by some. Tourment The House of Tourment holds the ‘Southern Key’ - Eranos, a vast region the size of several ‘northern’ provinces, which makes up large parts of the fortified border with Varcoast, and which also neighbors Pontilla. It’s a region mostly dominated by flat, fertile grasslands that stretch to the seemingly endless horizon, spotted with lakes, only interrupted by a few dwellings - and the ancient city of Tourment - ancestral seat of the dukes of Eranos, and the heavily fortified gateway to central Oleon. Valduria The House of Valduria formerly ruled over the province of the same name, a relatively small strip of land to the North, bordering Juniper province. But for its role in the Forty-Nine Years War the House of Valduria has been declared a disgraced house without honor, and His Majesty has forbidden to talk about it. The province of Valduria is now part of the royal domain. These are the houses - named the 'Original Six' - that lead the struggle for Oleander independence which culminated in the dissolution of the Empire of Madrice in the early second century. For their great deeds they were granted the right to depict knights' helmets as addition to their crests for all times. As the ruling house of Oleon, this helmet would be painted golden. Bothnia All background info on Bothnia can be read here. Beauregard The House of Beauregard traces its roots back to the year 463 AE - the year the Midlands War ended. For his faithful service in the war Marshal Artizar ‘Ironhand’ Beauregard was awarded lordship of Corban - a newly created, small province comprised of four former free cities - Quilbignon, Essarz, Trigny and Cavaroche - all located at the southern end of the Bay of Sarrant, and thus guarding the Lavoye Channel - a natural strait leading up to city of Granoleon. Like all coastal regions, Corban has flourished over the last decades, and especially the city of Quilbignon has developed into an important harbor and prime naval base for La Royale. Boussac Located north of Lac Givron, on the western banks of the River Doix - the stream that marks the border with Corrington - lies the historic march of Boussac, along with its capital, the fortress-city of Durmont sur Doix. Lord in this key province has been, for nine generations, the Duke of Mazan - also named the Lion of Boussac, because - like the roaring lion that blazons the house’s crest - the Duke of Mazan needs to stand tall facing Oleon’s hereditary enemy to the East.

The Campaign Shield - Medal for campaign participation The campaign shield is a military decoration donated by His Majesty for participation in Oleon’s war campaigns. The shield comes in three classes and is eligible for every Oleander, regardless of social standing. Military units can be awarded as a group, also. An individual shield accompanied by a matching ribbon will be donated for each campaign, and it will be awarded at the end of the conflict, regardless of its outcome. Duration and year will be marked on each shield. Awarded in: Gold: participation with private troops and/or ships for the entire duration of the campaign, plus active contribution (MOCs, planning, general initiative, etc.) Silver: participation with private troops and/or ships for the entire duration of the campaign Bronze: participation with private troops and/or ships for more than half of the campaign

Noble houses offer prestige, noble titles open doors. Therefore, it comes as no surprise that the establishment and expansion of one's house is a matter of heart and honor for every Oleander – and so it should be for you, too! Oleon grants you the possibility to establish and expand your own noble house, too, as the ultimate reward for long term commitment to His Majesty and the empire, for outstanding achievements and unprecedented acts of loyalty. How this works in-game: Well, it’s simple, really - contribute to Oleon’s esteem and glory, be that as a faithful and brave soldier on the fields of battle, or as a determined and loyal citizen, and His Majesty will provide for your own prestige and social standing.
