Stud.io and Mac big issue with Mouse input
JopieK replied to JopieK's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
I thought so. Apparently it has been an issue for over a month now. Even though I update regularly, I only realized it yesterday (after not having used Stud.io for about two weeks). https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT214036 I suspect it has to do with Mono. -
macOS 14.2 and Stud.io don't like each other. Mouse clicks stopped working or clicks work but Studio freezes. Currently there are two workarounds: - downgrade to 14.1.2 or earlier - use another operating system See also: https://www.reddit.com/r/DigitalLego/comments/18j8gqu/macos_142_update_breaks_studiopartdesigner/ https://forum.bricklink.com/viewtopic.php?t=9775 Of the people reporting the issue I only see M1/M2/M3 Macs, I don't think it is related to the ARM silicon, but it might be.

[ENTRY] Rock Island Refuge (Now Finished)
JopieK replied to CaptainDarkNStormy's topic in Pirate MOCs
Wow that is a stunning take on Rock Island Refuge! -
I would always start with FDM to get the part right. PLA is the easier material to start out with. LEGO is ABS so after that you might switch to ASA (ABS 2.0) but that is much harder printing, you really should use a heated enclosure for that. A good way to start 3D printing is finding some FabLab / Makerspace. I print quite a lot (for my PhD research, not so much for the LEGO hobby). I did some drive rods on my Ender 3 using PLA that worked quite well, although I would prefer PETG or ASA for durability (PLA will become very brittle over time under UV influence).

Keep it friendly please @Phil-B259, we all are hobbyists and a hobby should be fun. Apart from that a lot of Train stuff ends up quite high on Ideas and stuff like the Bricklink (https://www.bricklink.com/v3/designer-program/series-1/main.page, 3/15 Train related items is quite decent I would think), but after the grey era LEGO has been ambiguous about it and the way the company works means that they are not transparent about anything to anyone including AFOLs/fans (even not if you work together with them, e.g. one of my colleagues regularly supervises quite some students at TLG and has done for years, he is under very heavy NDA's for often somewhat trivial things).

Or maybe the server was down, it happens sometimes. But now you have it at least!

Two locomotives inspired by the classic 4564 set
JopieK replied to robertreimus's topic in LEGO Train Tech
I think they look really nice! The upper one reminds me of Volker Rail: -
Apparently they got hacked. We already saw some stores being attacked (see https://www.1000steine.de/de/gemeinschaft/forum/?entry=1&id=474028&lastid=1#lastid), see also https://www.promobricks.de/bricklink-offline/

Welcome @The_Lego_Fan. Enjoy! What themes do you particularly like? I'm most into city and trains.

I think a combination of sets and MODs I think. I at least recognize 8375:

Yup, indeed a spelling error. Of course one should not use any of the ABS (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene) like ingredients. (Acetone etc glues ABS/LEGO well as it dissolves the plastic, basically that is why it glues) I guess WD40 be a better choice but use not too much. Isopropyl alcohol will also work but do not overuse it either.
-
https://www.kelco.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2009/02/abs-chemical-compatibility-guide.pdf It seems that cellulose "Lacquer Thinners" are better to use (A category) on ABS as Isopropanol (B category).

Hello, help wanted
JopieK replied to Koneko's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
I guess with how to read the rules and not spam the same message x3. -
I would start off with Tinkercad.Don't rush to the result, experiment: get to know the materials and equipment as @dr_spock already said: trial and error. ASA is hard to print but will be also be most like LEGO (which is made from ABS, at least for most parts). In the end you will get the best / most accurate results with a resin printer, but for driving rods etc a PLA printer would also be fine.

@ToledoRails great arguments! Also I never like all the complaining by AFOLs, we can just MOD it can't we?!

Power Function Rechargeable Battery 84599/8878 woes
JopieK replied to zephyr1934's topic in LEGO Train Tech
I would indeed go for replacement. First you could already check if the cells are swollen or not and/or use a multimeter to measure the cell voltage. Look also here: https://www.planetdiecast.com/index.php?option=com_zoo&task=category&category_id=470&page=18 -
Problems with tram from WV set 10308 running on curved tracks
JopieK replied to CoNSpiracy's topic in LEGO Town
It might be due to the weight and the newer wheels without spokes. LEGO did test them well: But in your case they appear to have issues. You could/should contact LEGO about it I think. @zephyr1934 you made a 'promise' in that Topic, so maybe you already have found a solution ?! ;) -
