[MOC] Lego Fast and Furious Tokyo drift Mazda rx7 Fortune
Henchmen4Hire replied to Reli's topic in LEGO Town
You could simply replace the 1x1 slope and corner tile with a 1x2 curved slope, but then you would need a little piece of black tape or something to get the rounded corner again. So frustrating when you get a really nice shape and then have to rework it haha Personally I'd just use a dot of white glue and call it a day, but I'm a monster like that. -
[MOC] Lego Fast and Furious Tokyo drift Mazda rx7 Fortune

After looking at the real car, I think you captured the recognizable shapes. I think the hood area could stand to look more bulbous, at least the spot over the tires. Not sure how the lights are attached but they look cool. Maybe flatten the curve in the rear by using these bits instead -
While I like muscle cars and vans with giant wings, I don't think there's much interest for those types of autos anymore, so I hopped over to the supercar lane. (Well...hybrid middlecar lane, maybe? Hey, almost 600HP is pretty good!) Album - https://flic.kr/s/aHBqjAmByf Here's a look at the funk that went into the nose-

New LEGO Speed Champions 2023 Rumors, Speculation
Henchmen4Hire replied to MTBingNinja's topic in LEGO Town
That's pretty neat, I actually want all those sets. I tried going back and buying 2-packs I missed but they're so damn expensive :/ Hoping someday I can get the Bronco 2 pack at least. -
Bosozuko Transit Van will now be a thing, for even faster delivery times by hopping over traffic

How do you start your Speed Champions MOCs?
Henchmen4Hire replied to Henchmen4Hire's topic in LEGO Town
I have to agree, I usually make bulkier vehicles where I have more room to work with and even make weird connections for the wheels, but this base has been a quick start for these sportscar types. I miss having opening doors though!- 2 replies

Hey peeps, I got the urge to improve my 8-wide vehicle builds again and was wondering if maybe I've been doing things the hard way all this time. How do you start your Speed Champions MOCs? Have you developed your own go-to techniques? Usually I don't use pre-built bases, I usually start with the tire/wheel assembly attached to some Technic bricks, then figure out the wheelbase (distance between the front and rear axles) and build around that. For this build though, I wanted to try using the traditional Speed Champions base. For example, I'm working on an modern Acura NSX, I know the life-size Countach has a 96 inch wheel base, and the NSX has about 103 inches, so I added a stud of length to the LEGO Countach's wheelbase. Once I work on the body I'll be able to tell if I need to adjust it to keep things in correct proportions. We've all seen how the official designers work miracles with this base, so I'm hoping I stumble onto one of my own lol Edit: After some tinkering, I def had to extend the wheelbase another stud.

A little bondo should fix the gaps in the back haha There should be a van contest, I think this is the only other van I've ever seen on here besides my Supervan 4

The lack of LEGO Supervans is outrageous
Henchmen4Hire replied to Henchmen4Hire's topic in LEGO Town
Thanks bub, we might be the only supervan fans lol After a few days of fighting off a blood infection, reflecting on all the poor choices I've made throughout my life, the most important revelation came to me: how to shrink the nose on this thing! While I did lose the clever blue stripe, now the proportions are more accurate and the gappiness is gone. Time to fill the insides...- 2 replies

[MOC] Nod to the Old Octan Tow Truck
Henchmen4Hire replied to Driver Brandon Grumman's topic in LEGO Town
Are they hosted with Google? I can't see them either, usually it's because my ad/tracking blocker is fighting off whatever nonsense Google wants to track and spam me with. -
...so here's a half-finished one! ...hey, it's more than there were before, I call that a win. I used my usual inelegant method of throwing bricks at the wall and seeing what shapes work. The main thing I'm not happy with is the nose, I think it needs to be shorter but not sure what I can remove. Also not thrilled about how gappy it looks. I am happy with how I managed to add the little blue Ford logo in front though. I really don't want to change that. Also happy with the mosaic-like build on the roof. Suggestions welcome! Also, does anyone have pictures of this van's electric motors? I saw one picture but it doesn't show exactly how long they are or much details at all. New LEGO Speed Champions 2023 Rumors, Speculation
Henchmen4Hire replied to MTBingNinja's topic in LEGO Town
Could be the nose of a vintage car, maybe fenders for a big rig or wrecker-type truck. -
I used to get overwhelmed trying to build big vehicles, now I think these smaller ones are more fun to design. With all the smaller bits available they can have all sorts of neat features, like you added. Where are those tires from? I've been out of the loop for a while.

Not belligerent, but it seems to me like you think I want LEGO to go full blown Skynet with cyber integrations in every brick or something haha. I just have no need for booklets. I like to see new ideas and ways to interact with products, regardless of if they flop. I like the Hidden Side and Vidya (yo?) and whatever that monkey warrior theme is and the set this topic is [supposed to be] about, etc. They're...interesting, and I appreciate them for what they are. I may not buy them, but I like that they exist and hope more cool, crazy, weird stuff keeps coming.
-
You lost me here, did you intend to use "belay" or a different word? I'm fine with that, it's not like I'm the one funding these experiments anyway. I hope they keep trying with all sorts of themes and eventually develop something awesome. I'm not strongly in favor or against any of this stuff, what I'm in favor of is seeing cool stuff developed, whatever shape it may take. Sure, but realistically that's not going to happen, the problem is only going to get worse as tech gets flashier and flashier. As a toy company, it makes sense for the Lego peeps to try to tap into that addiction. Booklets: To me, they're superfluous, redundant, etc. I live in a modern country and have access to the internet 99% of the time, I'm not sweating at the thought of booklets going away. I also don't collect Lego as an investment, If I could buy just the poly bags directly from the company at a reduced price I would.

Ok, honestly, do you set out to make a particular car model, or do you mess around and make something random and cool, and then name it after whatever real car it resembles? haha

No need since it looks like you already nailed the Roadrunner! If you want a Superbird, all I can suggest is you do something similar to what I did and make the nose swappable on your model. -

Haha you're exactly the type of builder who should be designing modern cars because often they need clever techniques to recreate the intricate shapes. Great attention to detail on this car. -
Modular Dodge Charger second generation (1968-70) 8-wide
Henchmen4Hire replied to thomasanderson's topic in LEGO Town
Do you find that when adding features like the opening hood and trunk that you end up with a very straightforward build? I mean, I've been catching up on Speed Champions recently and they have all sorts of awesome techniques used, but they don't have opening doors, hood, etc. I've also built several 8-wide MOC cars like yours and I find my builds to be almost boring compared to all the hotdogging the LEGO designer does haha.- 6 replies

I opened the missions to see what they were like, and I like them, they're entertaining without being obnoxious or overly cute. Little rascal me would have loved to have something like this. I know we can download PDF instructions for almost any other set, from the official LEGO website, though I saw that the PDF download for this set in particular funnels you over to the app again. Granted, that's weird since there are definitely instructions in the app, so not making them available the usual way is...weird. Def agree the PDF for the instructions themselves should be available as a standalone download.

Can't sleep so here's an idea for the side module things -
Frankly they look like "regular" cars at first glance, but with a little imagination I can see the scifi/cyberpunk kicking in, like the offset single headlight, greebles, wraparound windscreen, etc. That's probably as good as it gets at this scale.
