Lots and lots of armored elves with cool helmets in the movie. Sigh. What might have been.
-
An armored elf. Seriously, we saw elf soldiers in action in both DOS and now in BOT5A (never with hood), but no elf soldier with helmet.

I know this is about more non-licensed castle, but a Hobbit or LOTR chess set could have been spectacular. I think Lego doubling up with both Castle & LOTR/Hobbit at the same time this past year led to a sales disaster for both.

The Big Bang Theory uses a live studio audience. I know, because I once got lucky and got tickets to a filming! -
LEGO LotR - general discussion
greenalfonzo replied to General Magma's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
My only real hope at this point, is that they recognize there's a still a demand for this line, even if it in not at traditional retail. They stated at the beginning that they understood it to be 'character driven,' so hopefully they will explore what it would take to launch a CMF line (see if the action figure license is available from Warner Bros), or a few more Orthanc UCS-type sets -
That's probably what they had planned. But since the third wave of the LOTR was canceled, we're just never going to see it. Kind of ironic that PJ changing the Hobbit from 2 into 3 movies ended up costing us half of the second wave of the LOTR sets.

LOTR & Scooby-Doo would be fantastic.

Those are beautiful! I love the torso designs and leg printings. How did you do those? Matching shields would be awesome! -

So who do we want to pick up the LOTR license after Lego gives it up next year? Which clone brick makes the best accessories that work with lego minifigs? -
I am really looking forward to the soldiers. Funny how they haven't gone back to the Spanish/conquistadors in the pirates line for some time.

REVIEW: 71007 LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 12
greenalfonzo replied to WhiteFang's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I completely agree! The helmet would be much cooler without the horns, and more historic. Maybe that is why Lego put the horns on - to make it more fantasy? Funny, I disagree about the cloth skirts. I find the block slope 'dress' completely worthless and ruinous on 'action' oriented figures, like the battle goddess, or the previous Viking lady. I think they are okay for lady-statues who aren't meant to be played with beyond standing in the corner looking pretty, but really these are toys meant to be played with, and you imagination is limited if a female figure can't perform all the 'actions' of the male figures. Bring on more cloth skirts, Lego!- 156 replies

I would go for an 'Eowyn' eye-guard Rohan helm, a Gondor helm, and a Gondor-shaped shield. Also, some Orc helmets closely modeled on ones seen in the movies would be great. -
[Petition] Save LEGO the Lord of the Rings
greenalfonzo replied to Trunkbass's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Actually, I think that Lego is canceling the last LOTR sets because they *won't* be making that much of a profit, due to the slow sales of the second wave of LOTR, and probably the fact that many retailers had to clearance them and aren't very interested in more. I travel to many stores in large chains like target, Walmart, etc., and the LOTR/Hobbit sets are only shelved in some, not all.- 298 replies

[Petition] Save LEGO the Lord of the Rings
greenalfonzo replied to Trunkbass's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
^ It shouldn't be. LOTR has a lot of hardcore fans, that really haven't had an outlet to spend their money on, outside expensive statues. There are probably 10x (more like 100x) as many Star Wars fans that are only into legos because they collect SW sets. Are they 'insane' as well, because they don't care for playing with Chima, Ninjago, or main street buildings?- 298 replies

Not getting Gondor is the one thing that will forever haunt my dreams with this line. I am convinced that the second wave was split, and the three unproduced sets were mostly centered around Gondor, but slow sales of the pirate ship and Rivendell doomed them to the void. Lego obviously thought the 'variety' offered by the Council and the ship sets would be more attractive than just another round of soldiers and castles and monsters. They were wrong, so wrong. -
I just hope if they do this, we get a very decorative new helmet. One whose design is in line with the style of LOTR elves. I think the various elf warriors throughout the movies maybe had 5 different helmet designs, all of which had quite a lot of flair.

A yellow headed elves castle line like the old forestmen? I would likey!

6th Anniversary REVIEW: 79012 Mirkwood Elf Army
greenalfonzo replied to JimBee's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I like the set, but was disappointed by some of the choices in the figures. I wish we would have received at least one helmeted elf. We didn't see any elves with hoods in the movies, and there is nothing particularly 'elflike' about them, except for maybe the torso print. I could have done without the orc shoulder piece if instead I could have gotten at least one armoured elf from this line. They then could have replaced legolas with another armored elf in the BOT5A set. Or maybe saved Thranduil for that est.- 11 replies

They should have included an armored elf in MEA, and then reused that in the BOFA set instead of Legolas. That would have made MEA more accurate, since we have seen no elf wearing a hood in the Hobbit movies so far, and we saw the armored elves in action in DOS at the water gate, and will again in the next movie.

Middle-Earth Minifigure Wish List
greenalfonzo replied to Lancethecat's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
My most wanted: 1. Gondor soldier with shield. The only new mold needed is the helmet. Yeah, a new shield mold is needed, but an old one with the tree printing is acceptable. As is the classic castle breastplate. 2. Faramir/Gondor ranger. Just a new torso printing needed. 3. Witchking & fellbeast. New helmet mold. 4. Eowyn/new rohan helmet. New helmet mold and torso printing. Make it with molded hair out the back, and reuse it for additional Rohan soldiers. 5. Armored elf. New helmet mold. We've seen armored, helmeted elves in 5 of the 6 middle earth movies (different styles & eras), and need a lego version. Maybe Lego could do a Kickstarter for the Gondor soldier and see how it goes? If that works, they could try it on other characters as well.- 41 replies

They would need to do a couple new parts. I know that usually these types of sets don't get new parts, but maybe if they did them in the softer/cheaper CMF type molds. -

They should really do an army-builder heavy CMF series for LOTR. If not that, maybe a big chess set. Witch King! Gondor soldiers as pawns! -
I have had a few 'missing' pieces before, but when I carefully retraced my steps, I found that the piece fell out on the floor, or I didn't notice it was still stuck in the package. I'm *not* saying this is what happened to you, but you might want to look over where you opened it, and dig the bag out of the garbage or whatever. I have found that this is more common when I've been opening a few packages at one time.

I'd rather not see both of Bard's daughters in one CMF series.
