Grey_Mouser, could you please post your LXF of Inthert's original design to the forum? It would help the rest of us who are building this model to find the parts needed. I think that your mod of the cockpit looks really good - besides adding the flat area, it angles the cockpit up a few degrees, which makes it more accurate. It would be nice if the flat part was fixed, so that the only hinge point was at the top, but it'll do as it is. My own opinion re: the engines and the slopes is that I'm not convinced by either design :-). the engines look too small and the flat area between the slopes and the engines looks kind bad. To be honest, when I build this model, I'm planning on using the design of engine from dmaclego's X-wing (along with his guns). However, as a quick fixer-upper, how about two rows of cheese slopes?

[MOC][WIP][LDD] Minifig Scale Rebels Ghost Build
ScottishDave replied to IcarusBuilds's topic in LEGO Star Wars
I like the idea of a room behind the galley - that makes sense, although I can't see a door in the rear wall of the galley in any episodes. My other guess is that there is a crawlspace linking the two hatches, like a large air duct or something. It's undignified, neither Seb or Chopper can use it, and it's no way to move cargo, but do-able for the human crew members Come to think, that's another mystery - I've never seen Chopper moving from deck to deck. Does he fire that health-and-safety-violation rocket motor of his every time he wants to go up or down a ladder? Don't the others get awfully tired of singed hair and rocket exhaust fumes? -

Yep, that's plausible - but I can't recall ever seeing it in the show. Was it an official Lucasfilm production sketch? Yes, that's the one I meant. That must be all of six metres from the door to the cross corridor (which is just behind Hera.) Compare that to the position of the belly hatch of the Phantom at the rear of the ship, which I would guess to be twenty metres aft of that self-same corridor, and I hope you'll agree that there is a slight mismatch. -

There is a fair bit of that in The Ghost - perhaps a subtle nod to the trans-dimensional problems of the Millennium Falcon? The worst problem is that the hatch from the bottom of the Phantom is too far aft to link up with anything. I believe that it is supposed to open into the main crew lounge - but since the main crew lounge is directly behind the main turret, and the Phantom's belly hatch is 20 metres further aft, the distances are hilariously wrong. Nice! I really like the look of the new docking port. Your internal structure also looks quite sound - rather like that of the UCS Falcon, but bigger. -
Thank you for the clear explanation. I appreciate it, and I don't consider it too talkative.

The thing I like best about this one is the parts usage, especially the flippers, the hockey masks and the five-sided tiles. The greebling is wonderful, and contains so many inspiring ideas. The next thing I like is the cannons: the entire design is wonderful, and I'm itching to reverse-engineer them the next time I rebuild my x-wing. I also like the way you've built the forward fuselage - so studless, so clever. The accurate panelling and colours are so awesome. A quick question: do the landing gear doors fold up? Or is the landing gear just removable?
-
I've been aware of your model for some weeks now (You were kind enough to Fave my T-70 X-wing on flickr.) I really, really like this build. I like the shape of the fuselage, especially the entire section forward of the cockpit - You have captured every angle of the original perfectly. I also like the cockpit. No lego canopy is correct for an X-wing cockpit, not even the ones that Lego have used in their own X-wings. Your design has the correct shape, and looks really good. Thank you very much for putting a photo breakdown of your build on flickr: I plan to use parts of your design the next time I rebuild my X-wings.

Nice! Two studs longer than mine, but I do like the cockpit. Great use of the new 1x2 wedge plates - here's hoping they come out in LBG soon. Excellent idea to use the turntables to angle in the cannons - I wish I'd thought of that.

[MOC][WIP][LDD] Minifig Scale Rebels Ghost Build
ScottishDave replied to IcarusBuilds's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Yes, it is twice the size of the original Phantom model 75048, and 1.3 times the size of your shuttle. BTW I can see that my estimate of how big I'd need to make a matching Ghost was wildly out. I've now calculated it as 178 studs long: that's 142.4 cm or four and a half feet. Ouchie... Back on topic: Thank you for sharing pictures of the rooms. They look great - Hera's and Sabine's rooms have lots of character, and are very recognisable. -

Thank you for the comparison pics of the Phantom. Well, that's put paid to the hope that my version could be squeezed in... I like what you've done with your Phantom! It looks great, and you've made good design choices: it's instantly recognisable, true to the proportions of the original, and important details (like the underside hatch) are present and correct. The only part I'd take a second look at is the cockpit canopy - would the new x-wing canopy work better? -

This looks fantastic! I'm a bit sad that it's not quite large enough to take my Phantom shuttle (would making it a few studs bigger have killed you ?) but other than that: I love it. BTW there were some cockpit designs shared in another thread a few months ago which you might want to take a look at... -
After the pair of riggings (which you should easily get $200 for) the next most obvious is the dish ($50), and the sticker ($200). I'm not sure that anything else is rare enough to bother with. The dish can be replaced by a brick-built dish, either for OT or Ep VII. Since you are planning on selling the rigging, you probably have a plan for the engines... but if you don't, I do happen to have a nice cheap design for a replacement. All three of these mods (two dishes and engine) can be found on my Modded UCS Falcon thread. Having said all of the above: If money is an actual concerm then I wouldn't advise buying a MISB 10179 and selling off parts: unless your seller is willing to let it go for less than $1000 it is simply not worth the cost. The very cheapest way to buy one is to bricklink the individual parts, with colour substitutions: but that does take a lot of time and organisational ability. There are numerous threads on this very forum containing advice on how to do this. The best compromise may be to buy a bricklinked set from eBay - they typically go for under $1000. There are some examples on eBay at the moment... although, unnervingly, they say that they are mostly made from "lego compatible" parts...

[MOD] First Order Transporter mod (with LXF)
ScottishDave replied to ScottishDave's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Sorry, no - I was replying to the other guy, Xunner drifter... to be honest, I hadn't spotted your post, which explains his question: my apologies to you both... Your written English is just fine. Thank you for your kind comments. It sucks not having a working computer - I hope you get it sorted out soon. -

I can't quite work out what you mean - I'm guessing that English is not your native language. The links work fine, and the files are still there. Have fun. -
[MOC] Episode V Custom Millennium Falcon
ScottishDave replied to Hobo Fett's topic in LEGO Star Wars
I'm a huge fan of the Millennium Falcon, so I'm super-excited to see such a wonderful version of this ship on the forum. I especially like: The interior. I really enjoyed the shots of the interior in the video, but they were a bit low-res and blurry. I appreciate that this might mean disassembling part of the model, but it'd be really great to see the entire interior layout. That aside: of the bits I can see, I especially like the pipes around the door of the hold. I also really like the detailing on the lounge seating - you've captured the look of the padding perfectly using a very unlikely piece. The cockpit and corridor (exterior). I love the comparison shot between the Kenner toy piece and your cockpit: you've clearly given a lot of thought to the shape of the cockpit, and it shows - you've captured it perfectly. The use of smooth curved pieces is excellent. There is one detail I especially liked: the triangular pieces on the inside of the elbow which fill those irritating little gaps. The landing gear. This is a really tricky area to get right. Nice piece usage all around, from the use of technic disks for the collars (just the right size) to the use of old space handles on the "toe". The rest of the model is also awesome, but these are the things which leap out at me. I can appreciate the amount of time and effort you put into getting this right: it shows that you've been building it for three years. You've found innovative ways of building lots of details, not taking one piece from the UCS Falcon as far as I can see. I could nit-pick over certain areas (size of individual elements in proportion to the rest of the ship, the amount of curvature on the upper hull) but I can't fault the overall effect: it's an excellent model and I'll be studying it closely for some time to come. -
Would you mind starting a new thread for this? I have a feeling that it is going to be very, very popular.

[MOC] [LXF] Minifig-scale Phantom from Star Wars Rebels
ScottishDave replied to ScottishDave's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Thank you, LiLmeFromDaFuture - I was aiming for the smooth and stylised look of the cartoon (as opposed to the grungy, stud-heavy look of the UCS Falcon). Now, if I could just find a nice clean way to get rid of the last 8 studs on the wings, I'd be really happy... does anyone have any ideas about that? Please feel free to post here if you do.- 46 replies

[MOC] [LXF] Minifig-scale Phantom from Star Wars Rebels
ScottishDave replied to ScottishDave's topic in LEGO Star Wars
BTW I've just updated the LXF. It now uses click hinges for the rear hatch. They are bulkier, but the hatch is now far more likely to stay open! As a final touch, I found some of the original artwork for the Phantom on starwars.com, and used it to produce a graphic of the Phantom's markings Print this out at a width of 72mm onto some sticker paper, cut and apply. Here is a quick picture of my model with the stickers applied, being menaced by DarthTwoShedJackson's AT-DP:- 46 replies

[MOC] [LXF] Minifig-scale Phantom from Star Wars Rebels
ScottishDave replied to ScottishDave's topic in LEGO Star Wars
I should clarify: that's 39 studs without the forward guns (which are often retracted in the show). They add another 10 studs. At the risk of opening the usual can of worms about scale and minifigures... According to Wookiepedia, the Phantom is 11.63 metres long. I'm not sure, however, whether the Wookiepedia measurement includes the guns, or takes account of the lengthened engines of the Season 2 version which I built. If you assume that the length given in Wookiepedia is based on the Season 1 Phantom with guns retracted, then the scale is probably 1:39, which is about right for minifig-scale. This is the figure upon which I based my guess of the length of scaled version of The Ghost.- 46 replies

This is a minifig-scale model of "The Phantom", the shuttle from the TV series "Star Wars Rebels". It's about a foot long and has a full interior, with working hatches at the rear and on the underside. I re-used the cockpit and nose from goatman461's excellent design, along with elements of the sides, roof and underside hatch: and I'm grateful for his kind permission to post this model. As usual, I've documented the build as an LXF file for my own reference, and I am linking the LXF file here in case anyone else feels like building this model. The LXF is nearly-but-not-quite correct. I can't place the roof (the angled pillars at the back prevent it from attaching) and the tyre with tread at the front of the engine should be an old smooth tyre (part no. 132) - something which does not appear to exist in LDD. Update: Many, many thanks to @monkypaws for making the instrctions available for free on rebrickable - link here. This page contains both a step-by-step set of instructions and a parts list. The details section contains a list of rare parts to check before attempting a build. Before someone asks: yes, I am pondering building the Ghost in scale with this shuttle. I estimate it would be quite large - 138 studs long, 1.1 metres, or the length of a stay in a local psychiatric hospital. Here are a couple of pictures. More can be found on the flickr album: Here are some photos of the Interior. First a shot from the front of the cockpit, showing Hera and Kanan, with the rest of the crew in the background (minus Chopper, who is in his droid socket on top of the ship). The belly hatch works, i.e. it opens and closes: There are eight seats in the back (realistically, seating for six, given the width of Lego figures): Once again, more photos can be found on the flickr album There is always room for improvement: If you have any suggestions, comments or criticisms, please feel free to leave them below. Edited 16th May: added interior photos.

Well done - you put a lot of work into that video as well as into the build. Can I ask about the issue you had at the end with the hull plating - what was the problem and how did you resolve it? Any constructive feedback is very welcome, and I'd like to help if I can! -
