I just looked through the sets that are tagged with Technic on Lego Ideas. And at least in my opinion, the most is just "shit". Sorry to be so blunt. There is stuff, that isn't even Technic. Or it's scaled totally strange, like cars with wheels that are too small and such. Or the design is very poor and does not really resemble what it should be, ignoring iconic looks. Or it is just alternates for existing models. Or just odd-looking stuff. Or creations built with just old Technic Bricks. From all these I have seen, perhaps 10 sets could be counted as worthy models in my opinion. Unfortunately, some of the quality stuff was rejected early or caused problems through self-made marketing. And I must say, that some models are not even tagged with Technic and don't count towards my findings.

I guess it depends on what you look at. I believe the biggest MOCs that have instructions are from Sheepo. Landrover and manual GT500 with ~3.5k parts, PF GT500 ~4k parts. Other MOCs like the ships from VFRacingteam with several 10000 parts. Someone built a huge coal excavator with ~35k pieces. https://www.youtube....h?v=OyZwZjFPJk4

I think the biggest problem about Lego Ideas is, that the interest from the whole community in Technic is too low. People want somewhat iconic stuff that they can identify with. At least, that is what I learned from the last few cuusoo sets. Ghostbusters, BTTF, Exo Suite, all very iconic, playable and not too big. Another problem is, that many Technic models are just too big. The Landrover was clearly too big and cool cars tend to be in the range of 1500-2000 parts. They are not even necessarily over-engineered. Also, I think that smaller projects may just get media attention a lot easier as well, helping in the process of getting 10000 votes. Personally, I would like a Technic model to finally get the votes, be approved and released. It would be a nice change and probably push interest in Technic models on Ideas.

LEGO NXT Problem
Balrog replied to dr_spock's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Afaik, the first version of the NXT brick has this pretty common issue with the display. That's just what happened to mine as well. I believe the intelligent bricks from the NXT 2.0 sets are not affected by this. Also, what you described helped me as well. Replacement without problems. -
I'd go for the 8145 as well, because of the amount of flex axles. Then you only need some shock absorbers and perhaps a new differential and you have everything ready for a modern supercar with suspension. Perhaps some frames, but that's it.

I didn't notice it specifically for the engine rod, but now that you say it, it was a bit odd. For the connectors perpendicular, I realized this already when I got 8070. I wondered why the longer ones are shiny and the shorter one are matt, but didn't think too much about it. I am not sure about earlier versions, but if I remember correctly, the 2L were always matt and the 3L always shiny.

That is totally true. I think that is something everyone should think about when building. But, a part like flex axles can be substituted "relatively easy" and I think there is no shame when using a proper alternative for it to maintain the looks. TLG should not only re-release those flex axles that are hard to find, but all variations. That means, all available main colors and all sizes that are currently available for flex axles. That includedes lime green in 19L and so on which were previously not available.

Lego Gravity Cars Races Idea

Sorry I should have cropped the quote. The joke was all about the joke :D Ok all jokes aside, I think this "could" be a cool idea. But, I don't think you can create an equal challenge if people are not in the same place.- 15 replies

I am totally against it! You have no way to ensure that nobody tries to cheat by adding a superconducting magnet stolen from the LHC to the car and therefore accidently creating a kind of warp drive and by that discovering alien life that will demand to create another warp drive and holds the people of earth at gunpoint for that *breath* ...- 15 replies

There was a big discussion about this a while ago. And Sheepo made some comparison between non-Lego pneumatic hoses and the respective colors of parts. I personally like the idea of using pneumatic hoses as a substitution of flex axles. I would also use some third party flex axles if quality and color are ok. But that's about it. Also, there are other means for third party parts, like 3D printing. And Efferman does a great job about it. Though these pieces are still very expensive.

I'd suggest you watch like ... every video Sariel made in the last year. Somewhere it is clearly mentioned that his hamsters are scheming and aiming for world domination by the means of Sariel's creations. -
I tried to get one last year, but then got 8458 and 8466 and therefore abandonded the thought of getting it.

LEGO NXT Problem
Balrog replied to dr_spock's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Contact Lego customer Service and ask what they propose. Before doing anything yourself, you might still get a replacement through them. Probably free as well. When I had problems with the display of my unit I received a complete new unit. -

If you stuff them with hamster cookies before filming, then perhaps they are I would worry more about them taking the mower for a killing spree and take over the world
