  1. Good point. Haha. I had some "not Transformers" as a kid, and couldn't tell the difference in many cases. A lot of official Transformers toys weren't very good quality anyway. I had some of that too. I gave away all of the "not Lego" I had, but their standard ABS bricks were just as good as Lego bricks. The other parts weren't as good.
  2. I'd also like to add that I didn't even realise that the stud was actually a stud. I thought it was just the bit that sticks out under the flower but above the stem, the bud section on a flower (which should be green, not flower coloured). Some good thinking there!
  3. Very nice! Well done.
  4. I agree with those that have a negative opinion on when people buy up heaps of a new set, and as a result artificially inflate the price due to there not being enough supply for the demand that previously existed. I prefer the attitude "buy Lego for Lego", not buy Lego for profit. A guy bought all the BTTF sets locally (apparently he doesn't even "know how" to build Lego sets, he just holds onto sets to resell) so that when the price goes up he'll make a profit. Even if his plan falls through and they don't go for a fortune, anyone else who wanted one of those sets can't get one except via resellers or the prohibitive postage charges of S@H. This is called scalping. In some areas scalping is illegal. You can't blame TLG for not having "enough" supply in this case, their only alternative is to make way too many copies that just sit there on shelves forever. That is bad for business. All anyone can really do is give a dirty look to the people who unfairly affect the retail supply, and consequently artificially inflate the prices.
  5. I always thought it was the other way too! Only in recent years had I noticed them used as they are on the banner.
  6. Interesting point. However, have you considered this: 1970s, 80s and even 90s sets across-the-board were a shadow of today's sets in terms of accuracy. Let's compare some early Legoland "Town" vehicles with modern Lego "City" vehicles. Wow. The set designs are now much bulkier. Consider how realistic it is to have a real spaceship with such a flimsy design as the early sets. Not very. Over the years, new parts and resulting techniques allow more accurate models to be designed and built. Those old ships were mostly just plates & bricks stacked on top of each other, with studs almost always on top. Modern sets are nothing like that now, every medium or large vehicle or ship is chock full of various technic parts and others, and studs (if any) are facing all directions. Now my personal opinion: Those ships looked awesome back then. Today they look like rubbish. (But nostalgia keeps them cool to me.) I thought the antennae etc were exactly that, I never considered them as guns. They didn't look like guns to me. I thought the space men were holding megaphones, video cameras & sensor equipment. (It never stopped me from inventing plenty of conflict, mind you! ) These days you can tell that they're supposed to be guns. But if you have imagination you can pretend that they aren't there, that instead it's some robust mechanical thing. Some sensor array that isn't as flimsy as what the old sets had. Let's be honest, back then Classic Space was charming. But now: minus the nostalgia, it sucks . If such an old-school set like them was released today, only those filled with nostalgia for Classic Space would go anywhere near it. The minifigs are still cute though.
  7. Thought I'd hit up Target for fun last night, since I was going to the supermarket anyway. Found a whole heap of Forest Ambush (2013 castle) sets, marked at $8. (I know these sets have been slashed for a while, but this is the first time I've seen this one in stock.) The 20% off was still valid, so that ended up being $6.40 each! 4 nice minifigs + accessories at that price, wow. Grabbed a bunch, will keep some, give away the rest. So the price today is again $8, but that's an awesome price anyway if you find any. Sorry I couldn't report sooner!
  8. That sounds like a stroke of bad luck. There may be another answer though. Did you check their store terms? Some sellers have certain restrictions or instructions for new members. Some don't allow orders from people with 0 feedback. Make sure all of that is in order first. Next thing to try is to contact the seller to see what's up.
  9. In space no one can hear you pewpewpew...
  10. Not soon enough. I heard that the spaceship is August. Target catalogues go for 1 week starting Thursdays. Sometimes a sale will be extended for another week when not previously advertised, but not usually. Haven't seen the next catalogue yet to know whether or not on this occasion.
  11. Nicely arranged army. The dinosaurs fit in well as beasts.
  12. The TMNT Flashback Shredder polybag is for any S@H order over $45 until the end of the month. The email from Myer showed Benny, Good Cop, Metalbeard, President Business & Frank the foreman.
  13. You guys wanna see Chimp Eyes on Bluray?
  14. Yes, he's gone! Now everything truly is awesome! Did you really have to post that in a thread full of people glad to not be seeing it again? Could you turn it into a link instead?
  15. The space community build is in the Star Wars forum, it's called Shadows of Nar Eurobrika, rebels vs empire. But no one is stopping you from building mocs of custom sci-fi factions.
  16. We could compare it to Lego. SW sets should (according to that kind of opinion) stand on their own as good sets even without the SW references. This comparison is not quite as easy though, because regular sets are designed exclusively to be good looking playable models, whereas licenced ones (such as SW) are firstly attempting to visually represent something originally not built in Lego.
  17. It's about $100 off. Getting up towards 40% off. Castle was originally $150 I think, I haven't seen it at RRP for over a year. In fact, Kmart is the only place I've seen it for about a year...
  18. My order arrived this morning, looking forward to getting into it tomorrow. 11 days, fastest S@H delivery for me ever. Wish I'd got a few Revans, change over the head and you get a really cool looking knight for any of the black & red castle factions! Funny, sounds like the American deals this year were disappointing, well ours usually are something like 5% off a bunch of old sets, so it's nice for the shoe to be on the other foot this time.
  19. Exact same thing happened to me when I tried to sign up years ago. I gave up, couldn't be bothered. I got a cheap Flickr (pretty much unlimited) account before the prices went through the roof so I don't really care now anyway.
  20. We haven't had celebration Maul yet. But I don't remember if he put the medal on before giving it to Vader...
  21. Leg! :O Never thought this day would come, but yes, I too am pleased with that news for the same reason. We can therefore use the Classic logo stickers on any element in any colour.
  22. I can see a tardis & couple of minifigs make it (pending licence). I would prefer that they made the more popular renditions of the Doctor & co, perhaps as suggested in the last project. A K-9 or dalek would be great inclusions. I don't expect that project to be successful unfortunately. It has nicer minifig design though. I think the birds have a chance. It looks like a Creator line product. The others? I would be very surprised.
  23. Someone was saying to me yesterday that they don't know of anyone that saw it who didn't enjoy it.
  24. Removing a hand first is safer, but like others just turn the arm forwards, and holding both parts firmly bend the arm towards the back. Should easily snap out. Getting them back in, I hold the arm by its side. Repeated removal of arms & hands can cause the parts to become loose, and the socket area can become brittle and eventually crack. I've broken maybe 3 arms over the years. Only have vintage torsos with cracks though. I have more trouble removing legs than arms. Just every now and then a leg won't work free for some time, but I haven't yet broken a leg pin.
