[12 Days Of StarCraft] Day 12 - Protoss Arbiter
Artanis I replied to The Mugbearer's topic in LEGO Sci-Fi
I really enjoyed these, even if some aren't so detailed. The colours are just right. And remember, the models in SC1 were very low resolution anyway! And now I know what the day 5 lyric is. (I could never work it out) -

LEGO Ideas Discussion

Ship bottle would be too fragile. Nice display piece though. Speeder was oversized in system scale, you would have to put constraction Rey on that thing. Doomed anyway. Jury is out on the diner. -
Post your general LEGO Star Wars questions here

I think it all depends on your approach to buying/collecting in the first place. For me, my PT & CW collection was always about force/sabre-wielding minifigs and droids/clones - the sets were whatever the sets were unless it was easier to just BL minifigs. I didn't really buy a set for the model. As for OT, I am really only collecting imperial forces (ie TIEs, ATs, officers & troopers etc) & Hoth sets. No interest in the characters, I don't even have a Leia (I think). For TFA I went for most everything, except the OT character sets, but the primary focus was first order forces. When it comes to Rebels, I am again looking for imperial forces but also the hero ensemble. I've skipped the 2 sets you mention, but nothing else if I think about it (except the Frigate - yet. $50 for Ahsoka vs $200 for the whole set is still a difficult decision). I also pick up all the battle packs & micro/planet sets (whatever is going). So any set I bought for the model, it was a TIE or AT and who ever gets over that sort of thing? Meanwhile I have a whole bunch of models I didn't care about in the first place.., but don't mind. They are piled up in a box, the minifigs kept separate. -
Yeah, I'd feel better about it if it looked like they were on their way off-world

I was wondering the same at the time

You didn't read my wall of text? I'm hurt! I felt like that at times

Not going to give my opinion about the movie until I've seen it again, except to say that I liked how it runs straight into the start of Episode IV. Now onto the Lego sets, and whether the sets released were good choices or not. Note: SPOILERIFIC, but that's what this thread is for? AT-ST: blink and you'll miss it. I'd skip the set, but I like the minifigs and 1 of them is a main character. Wasted set, except to appease OT fans. Hovertank: prominent in the brief scene it appears in. Good set to release. TIE Striker: a bit of screen time but not very prominent. Way more normal TIEs featured. A super variant that appeared (blink and you'll miss) will never be a set, or seen again. Good minifigs, will probably never see this ship again. Good set to release. U-Wing: very prominent, stacks of screen time. Ships will never be seen again. Very good set inclusion. Krennic's Shuttle: very prominent, stacks of screen time. Will never be seen again. Very good set inclusion. Rebel battle pack: most rebels were humans and not uniform, the battle featured prominently. Good set inclusion. Imperial battle pack: only a handful of death troopers in the movie (although very prominent), so there should probably be 1 of the beach gear "shore" trooper in the place of a death trooper. (Or 3 stormies & 1 shorie) Stacks of stormies so 2 is right. Very good set inclusion. Scarif battle: hero minifigs weren't present (although the 2 main characters should probably appear in multiple sets), but the shore troopers are important additions. A bit of scenery to go with the battle packs. Good set inclusion. Y-Wing: not a lot of screen time, but one for the OT fans, there hasn't been one for a few years (unlike X-Wings). I'd skip it, the minifigs weren't very prominent apart from the admiral. Reasonable set inclusion. Microfighters are all fair enough. Minifigs are all good to have multiples, except I wonder who out there really feels that they don't have enough TIE pilots? [BONUS: CTT... minimal screen time but very noticeable] [BONUS 2: Death star... very prominent, plenty of screen time, but wrong minifigs] What else could there have been as a set? AT-ACT: Very prominent, albeit brief appearances. Won't see it again. Cargo transport shuttle thing: Very prominent, fair bit of screen time. Won't see it again. Should be a set. Star Destroyer (white!?!): Quite a few, very prominent and stacks of screen time. Could be a set, but very expensive. Last one was only a couple of years ago, we'll see them again. X-Wing: Heaps of these had heaps of screen time. Too many sets recently, forget about it. We'll see them again. Shouldn't be a set. TIE: Billions of these. Too bad the last plain TIE wasn't actually a plain one. Could've been a set, but the striker variant won't be seen again (unlike this one) so the right choice was made. Vader's TIE: Blink and you'll miss it. Was just released AND retired as a set this year. Hammerhead ram-ey ship: Brief important appearance, you'll survive without it. Were there A-Wings? Probably. A few of those sets recently so forget about it, there'll be heaps again. Big rebel ships that sit there doing nothing but being shot at: I have no interest so no comment, haha Yavin IV base: not much action, but that shouldn't matter. Could this be an upcoming rumoured set? Saw Guerrera's base prison thing: No way else to get that minifig... apart from his hoodlums everyone else that could appear in it is available elsewhere though. Vader's Orthanc/Barad Dur: (is that on Mustafar?) huge, and unlikely. Galen Erso's house/bunker: did I see blue milk there (or was it somewhere else)? Could do without, unless you want a young Jyn, young(er) Galen and Mrs Erso. Already have Krennic, his shuttle and more than enough Death Troopers. What minifigs were a waste? Bistan who? Moroff who? Pau who? More Death Troopers than we needed. What minifigs are badly (or slightly badly) missing? Saw Guevara (yes I know that's not his name), his main hood, Galen Erso, Mon Mothma, Bail Organa, the kill-everyone-blow-everything-up rebel boss guy, Darth Vader, Tarkin. More stormtroopers than we got, and extra droids like K2-SO. Did you also hear the announcement after the big debate: "General Syndulla report to briefing"? How did those guys get to Tattooine after that? Think about it.

Jestro's Volcano Lair scanned at $128 at Kmart, RRP is $190 (tag said $135). That's pretty darn good heading into Christmas if presents haven't been bought already. -
No one is discounting the merits of NK because it doesn't fit entirely in 1 category, but rather because they don't like it, or it simply doesn't offer what they want. I don't want wacky castles or armies, I want normal ones. I have no use for most of the parts in NK. None of the other castles (from other themes) released recently have useful minifigs for armies, so I would be in the camp that is waiting for NK to finish so that "real" castles & armies can be released, since it stands in the way of something that would be in my interest. That's not small-minded, that's "TLG is not currently catering to my interests" and "NK offers very little value-for-money for my interests".

That is a good number, you can put them all in one castle

If you are using unread content feeds and so on rather than browsing subforums, then to the left of the thread title in the feed there is either a circle or a star. The star indicates that you have posted in that thread, the circle that you have not. If you click on the topic title, you are taken to the very first post of the thread, but if you click on the icon, you are taken to the first unread post. (Unless a topic has been merged or moved, in which case you are taken to some point way back in the thread...) It works the same as clicking the brick to the left of the thread title when you browse the forum by category. This functionality has existed for years, yet this question has been asked many times! However, there is no longer a link INSIDE the thread, so I'd just make it a habit to always click the icon whether you know you've read that topic before or not. If you haven't, you'll be taken to the beginning of it anyway. -
Rocky IV. Not very good. Apollo Creed gets what he asks for, the fight scenes are better than previous movies (punch sounds are more ridiculous though) but not much else going for it.

The new theme looks really good, and I like that I can switch over to the (more relevant for me) Summer one instead... what with the first weekend of Summer's sunburn still lingering -
Just because 10 people expressed their disappointment doesn't mean the other 5000 disappointed people shouldn't be allowed to do so too. It's not "slamming" TLG to point out the things that have caused you to consider giving up your hobby, or reduce your collecting habits. They can't please everyone, and certainly not all at once, so there will always be people that feel let down. Just let the disappointed people share their opinion on a discussion forum (that is most definitely ON topic, mind you) in-between the posts from pleased people sharing their differing opinions. You won't get far in life if you can't get along with people whose opinions differ. This is a discussion site, not a fanboy site. Most posts are saying "I like this but I don't like that". How else is TLG supposed to know what people want? "I'm dissatisfied, and here's my reason" is not slamming.

Our S@H stock is the same as the European countries, once it runs out there, that's it. I also doubt it will be reduced for us, the precedent for UCS sets is that (while we get nothing) USA get a reduced price before retirement, and it disappears VERY quickly, and that tends to be when a set won't sell out (B-Wing for example). Assault On Hoth is probably the likeliest candidate, but that won't be for a while yet. You're more likely to get it at a reduced price at whichever retailer has it. (Big W? It's probably sold out of course) -

Not for us they don't (not usually). Only stuff that just won't move out the door. -
Gaaaaahhhh topics merged, no wonder I got sent a few months-of-posts back Castle Fortrex has been reported at 50% off in Australia before Christmas. That is a bad sign for that set, considering it only came out this year. If it was after Christmas or if it came out last year wouldn't be a big deal at all (or if it was a normal discount of 20%), but what I get from that discount is that it is not selling. *dances a jig*

Latest CMF series impact on Historic themes
Artanis I replied to SirBlake's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Unless it's like Prince Harry, or the symbol formerly known as The Artist formerly known as Prince formerly known as his real name (whatever that was, I could look it up I suppose?) -
Wow, so many rehashes with mostly reused minifigs. PASS. But maybe the A-Wing. I don't get the reasoning for this at all. It doesn't affect me being over here in the UK and all but I'd imagine that's very frustrating for North Americans. For the umpteenth time, it was entirely due to the factory not being able to produce everything in time

Snow Globe is free with $120 purchases on S@H until 10th of December. Although there is also a link for a much anticipated Black Friday weekend promotion, it points to nothing. -
No mate, it is retiring outside of USA (or NA) market. I don't know about Europe, but certainly locally with the following issues causing poor sales: Over-priced ($160!). Not widely available enough to get attention. Never on sale due to being exclusive to S@H. Source material (Rebels show) not accessible enough (most people don't have Disney channel). A good set wasted.
