Yesterday i completed my build of the B model for 8258...the red pickup, i wasn't interested in the crane/trailer part of this set. I didnt have the parts to build a total B model and i just wanted the pickup. Its an excellent model/design....sorta like an older version of 42029. Good use of the parts from the A model, its functions are standard and in line with what you would expect. But from a visual standpoint its a very good looking model. I added a few pieces here and there to pimp it up a bit :-) Here is a video of it with the trailer attachment: The pickup took about 4 hours to build, not sure how many pieces it uses but it felt like 1000 parts. If you don't have 42029 this is a great alternative!....i hated the yellow "hook" on the front winch so i replaced it with a proper hook. Added a 11L beam to the 5x11 panel to fillin that gap. and just added a few bits here and there to make it more complete.

I would like to see more emergency service vehciles, like a fire truck or one of those airport firet trucks with the water cannon! Maybe a new version of 8285.......

I just bought four 19L Red flexible axels/hoses for €3 each!....expensive but they are brand new and its not easy to find those Red hoses. I will use them for a rainy day when i plan to build one of the old Lego Racers sets. Got some more old style Technic panels as well, love the old style design....they were all brand new as well :-)

Would any kind soul help me out?....i have been buying brand new parts to build Technic 8275, the last pieces of the puzzle were sourced today. Out of 1352 pieces only 9 are second hand! :-) But i have no actual manuals, i could use the .pdf but its always best to work from the actual real deal. Does anyone have the 3 manuls they could sell me at a resonable price? I could pay via paypal etc.

I had the same spare parts left over from my build, they were used in the B model. Nice way of filling in the gaps in the hood area....i took a different approach. I used 8 of the new small panels to fill in the gaps....but leaving some are open to see the engine inside. http://www.bricklink...&colorID=5&in=A I also added extra headlights on the black corssbar on the front bumper. I really like the job you did on the back end!...can we get some pics of that area? -
What's the deal with Black?
Richard Dower replied to DrJB's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I think it comes down to parts availability....Black and Red are in abundance in every possible part type, while other colors may not have the parts nesscary to complete the build. Blue, Orange....most certainly the rarer colors like Metallic Silver or Light Bluish gray lack the parts nesscary to build complex models with lots of detail. As for Red supercars....that's easy.....they look frickin' COOL! :-) -

I think you are right, the B model is superior to the main model!....its the reason why i will buy two of this set. Sariel....am i correct in saying the cranshaft used in 42041 is Tan in colour, as opposed to the original 8041 which had Dark Blush Gray? Also....would it be possible to swap the Black panels used in this set with Red?...i'd like to see what the car looks like with Red panels :-) -
70165 seems to be a must have for parts! http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemInv.asp?S=70165-1 I also note it has several parts in Flat Silver not seen in any other sets incl. 6 liftarms in 1x11 in Flat Silver!

Just want to poitn out a few parts from the 2015 sets of interest, it should be noted that 42041 will differ slightly from the original 8041. The wheel hubs are the new 6 spoke varient and the engine blocks are the newer 2850b without side slot. The Blue mudgard used as a seat is quite rare: http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemIn.asp?P=61070&colorID=7&in=A Actually 8494 has a very interesting part list. 42038 is rather interesting as it has Dark Bluish Gray suspension arms which havent been seen since 2011 and 8070: http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemIn.asp?P=2739b&colorID=85&in=A -
Meh! to all that stuff....just *BRNG BACK THE METAL HOOK* !! http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=70644 Its hasent been seen since 2009 and before that since 2006....its VERY expensive to buy second hand, TLG need to put an end to these crazy prices!!

Your Best Technic Bargains
Richard Dower replied to Kumbbl's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I recently bought 8434 *BRAND NEW IN BOX* for just €60!....the box is badly squashed/damaged but the contents inside are all sealed in their respective polybags. This is a very rare and unique set with parts only found in this this set. I bought 8141 for just €12 and it has 2 of those #3 Red connectors...that set has lots of rare parts in Lime Green. But that Red #3 is very hard to find....good catch getting 6 of them for that price! -
LOL!...we havent had a V10 or V12 in many years...be nice if TLG changed things up a bit!!?
-
I like the overall size of the set...its HUGE!, as for functions...its in line with 8070 and other cars of its ilk. There are limits as to what functions you can incorporate into such models. For parts its a great set!, lots of unique elements and colours.....i think most would agree the preliminary image of this set was a much better design. But overall i think its a very good set and on my shopping list.

They are quoted on the parts list in the vids....but its hard to see, ergo a proper hi-res image would be best :-) -

Sariel....would it be possible to get pictures of the parts list? Many thanks for the reviews...stellar work as always! I was surprised to hear that you dont collection the regular Technc sets?....i would have thought you would have every set ever released in a display room or something. So i guess you just buy parts to build your own custom sets? I am only into Technic a year now, so i am still very much in the process of buying all the official released sets before i even think about building MOCs :-) -
I think my issue and i think others agree, is that making parts exclusive to one or two sets allows for scalpers and profiteers to buy up all those sets as they know the price will increase over time. 41999 is a prime example....i can almost BET that the vast majority of the 20,000 sold were bought up by non Lego fans. Profiteers who's only intent was to sell the set for 2 and 3 times its original retail price. For true Technic fans who would like to build 41999 by buying parts will find it impossible to find the Dark Blue and Metallic Silver elements as they are not availble in any other set. Ergo the only way to have 41999 is to pay €4-500 !!!! I just dont understand why TLG can't at least re-issue the same part colours in other sets, which would allow fans to buy individual parts from Bricklink etc.

Bricklink has the part list for several of the 2015 set online: http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemInv.asp?S=42032-1 http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemInv.asp?S=42033-1 Part #62462 is very rare in Metallic Silver, as Sariel pointed out...and 32033 has 3 of them! http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemIn.asp?P=62462&colorID=67&in=A As said already the Dark Blue panels are unique and were only used in 41999 previously.
