  1. 68 - 5 - 17 = 46... Matthias checks his pockets and wonders where his gold went to? "Bleh," Matthias says to the two animals as they cavort happily. "There's no accounting for taste, I suppose." Matthias, drink in hand, puffs out his tiny chest as he pulls the cannon over so Nicole can get a better look. "Ehhh, the craftsmanship was probably good at one time, but the metallurgy is very out of date," he says, looking superior. "I received this gonne from Glup the Daredevil Grumpkin of The Mercutio's Smile after travelling with them for a season. They used to stuff Glup into it and fire her out as part of their act - never used much powder, though, for her good and because the Fireball Extraordinaire here probably wouldn't have lasted through too many big booms." Remembering how full he'd packed the Fireball the night before while facing a slithering Hissvetian, the gnome surreptitiously checks to make sure there are no cracks as he continues to roll the cannon in his hands so Nicole can see the faded circus paint detail work. "You wouldn't have any tips on upgrades to bring 'er up-to-date with the latest research, would you?" he asks.
  2. Matthias, content thus far to stuff his tiny gnome face with chicken, bread, and water while 'XX' and Nerwen do the talking, finally breaks into the conversation. "Tritech? I heard your engineers build super cannons. As for your survey, I don't think we've run across any bandits actually on the roads, but that might be because the bandits are us," he fades off, looking ruefully at Purpearl and remembering the scaly disgusting snake of the previous night. Looking around the room, he catches sight of the crab and his pig. "Master Russel, tell that woman to stop with the infernal racket, will you?" he calls across the room. As Nicole goes on about the Decamon cards, the ranger's mind wanders and he jams another piece of chicken into his gullet. I wonder what Babeleth is? he thinks, using both hands to pick up the big flagon of water the bartender set in front of him. Bleh, he thinks. "I think I'll have what my 'friend' here is having," he says to the bartender, indicating 'XX' with a wave.
  3. I've been there. Thankfully I leave my work (mostly) at work now, and my employer provides a machine. At home it's pure Linux (Android for the phones).
  4. I think that is incorrect....
  5. This definitely sounds to me like health and ether are restored any time a bedroll is used. Can we get a ruling on this? And what does it mean "in a safe place"?
  6. Matthias indignantly addresses the new narrator. "Halfling?! Halfling?! I'm a GNOME! I knew you weren't to be trusted!" he shouts. "How about roast chicken and a bun, and some water?" the gnome decides. After last night, he thinks it may be a good idea to stay away from the hurricanes.... Glancing back and forth at the two redheads near the bar, Matthias decides to try and make some conversation. "So, what's the news around here?"
  7. Thanks all! Seoul is without a doubt the craziest place I've ever lived. There is just so much... everything! I started with SuSE 8.1 a long time ago, then switched to Fedora (Core) from 4 to 15, and now I very happily run Arch. Down with the micro$haft!
  8. Stats are good... eyes new narrator suspiciously.... Matthias, fair famished and parched to boot, marches straight up to the bartender, his big cannon banging and jangling against the bundle of other weapons on his back. "What's on the menu?"
  9. Howdy everyone, I'm Stick. I've been a member of EB for a while now, and I thought that since I didn't really introduce myself when I first joined, I'd take the opportunity of my 500th post to do so. So far I am really enjoying Heroica and Historica, and I am planning to join Shadows of Nar Eurbrikka if I ever have the time. I've added myself to the member map, and I signed up for the Reviewer's Academy. Thanks to all the staff, fellows, and senior members for making this a great site. About me: I'm a late-twenties AFOL and a proud natural-born citizen of the Republic of Texas, but I've lived and worked in two other U.S. states and four countries. Currently I hang my hat in 대한민국 (the Republic of Korea, or South Korea). As a kid my favorite set was 6054-1: Forestman's Hideout, since it was my first "cool" set, but my love as a kid was flying machines, up to and including spaceships. My pride and joy was 6984-1: Galactic Mediator, which I begged and begged my parents for until I finally received. Nowdays, I'll buy most any set if it is discounted deep enough. I just put together my first Chima set tonight - I bought it after I read a great review here - 70007: Eglor's Twin Bike. Outside of LEGOs, I'm a Linux hobbyist and I enjoy playing basketball and ultimate Frisbee. I have been playing the cello and various percussion bits for more than fifteen years and I can also tool around on the bass guitar if whoever I'm jamming with needs someone to sit in. Here's to a wonderful site whose members constantly amaze me by their creativity, technique, and huge budgets . God Bless, Stick P.S. - We need a cowboy hat emoticon!
  10. Everyone, as a show of selflessness, Matthias will accept the burden of owning any and all manner of items your characters decide are taking up too much text in their inventories.
  11. The ranger, almost asleep - long horseback rides, an evening of drinking at the bar, and more fights than he could shake a stick at have done him in - is startled awake by Ruffers' query. Bleary-eyed, Matthias wracks his brain for a response. "I think it offended Lady Purpearl," is the best the gnome can muster, and he hopes it's enough for the gallant crustacean's sense of honor, but in his own mind it's far from satisfactory. Exhausted as he is, it is a long and difficult process for Matthias, snuggled in his bedroll, to fall asleep.
  12. Heh, the first thing I look at for strategizing like that is suitability - who can wear/wield which pieces of gear the party is carrying? Once I have established what stuff each character is capable of using, then I can weigh the benefits of each piece, by slot. There, I fixed that for you. I suppose I'm just not at the experience level (no pun intended, and I mean me as the player not my character) where the "game" aspects require as much focus for me as the RP/storytelling portions. Maybe to make things easier on the QMs I'll reformat Matthias' inventory next time I update it. P.S. - As an addendum, I think that when I look at someone's inventory, it's usually easiest to find the bits of information listed first and last about weapons and artifacts because the parentheses break up the text, and WP:? is pretty easy to find since it's a solid block. Just my $0.02.
  13. The ranger accepts Berthadhiell's hand and wobbles to his feet. "Thank you for that suggestion," he says to Sir Pigley. "I think everything will seem shinier once we've rested." "Let's go."
  14. Excellent MOC and excellent story. +1 UoP DoH credit for Landscape design: Tree, Anthropology: Life in Avalonia, and Anthropology: Village scene. For the Wall techniques: Half timbered tudor style, I agree with the others - I'd like to see some diagonal timbers, offsets, etc. Great MOC though.
  15. Awwww, is the wittle crabby-wabby sleepy-weepy? hahahaha loving Ruffers' character! What is the airspeed velocity of a thrown dwarf? African, or European? Concur. Why doesn't everyone put the body slot / type of weapon first? To me it makes much more sense to do it this way: Artifact Name (body slot, SP:?, immunity, effects, suitability) Weapon Name (weapon type, WP:?, elements, effects, suitability)
  16. As Pigley speaks, Matthias, who is slightly spooked by the magic door, closes it very carefully and walks backwards up the stairs, his eyes and his cannon locked on the suspicious portal. As he comes over the top step, however, the gnome trips over the big axe he's lugging and ends up flat on his back in the middle of the floor. Lying on top of his gear, staring at the ceiling and trying to catch his breath, he says, "Sir Pigley has mentioned that it would be an excellent idea to get some sleep. I will second the motion, but first let's get out of this mansion. It's giving me the willies."
  17. Matthias makes quite the sight as he accepts the unreasonably large axe and begins trying to figure out how to tie it to his tiny pack that's already got two not-exactly-small swords hanging from it. With a little effort, he finally gets it more or less attached - if slightly off-balance - and begins teetering around the room. The lopsided gnome begins to blindly ransack the room, looking for arms and armor, widgets and gadgets, or papers that might lead them to Chauncey and Aventine. Then he remembers the two women leaving down a staircase and rushes over to see where it leads. "They went this way..." Math turns to the gallant animals of the party. "Do you two see anything useful?"
  18. Obviously you've never been pinched! Matthias nods in agreement with Nerwen. "Should we search the mansion first though to see if there are other clues? I'm sure the other two who were here are long gone, but we might find something...." he trails off, unsure exactly what they might look for but still thinking it might be a good idea. "Me either. I'll take whatever."
  19. Allow me to pick my jaw up off the floor...
  20. nstickney/Kaliphlin: Avalonia has my vote. However, best ship goes to Emma for The Smiling Phantom, excellent work!
  21. There isn't an interior and actually the well got photographed backwards. It was a tablescrap that I was playing with and just happened to work, sort of, with the rest of the build. Me too! Hahahaha.
  22. Wait, I thought it was the other way around? Only 1065 damage? That's nothing....
  23. Matthias, no longer suffering thanks to the medallion, nods agreement. A grim grin is graven on his gnomish gaze as he stuffs powder into the Fireball and fires at Magnar. > Matthias: Extraordinaire vs. Magnar
  24. For some reason I thought he was acting as a Cannoneer, not an Alchemist, so I didn't even look there. I'm an idiot, thanks!
  25. Matthias has power 17 (level 11 + WP 5 + power bonus 1) so he should have done 17*2=34 damage. As for XX, where does "Explosion" come from? Is that something specific to him? If we let him die can we have his stuff? Matthias doesn't notice at first that the explosion from the other cannon carrier wasn't a good thing. As he shares a celebratory look with Ruffers and Pigley, 'XX''s mangled body catches his eye. "Yikes!" he shouts to Berthadhiell and the other ladies. "We've got a man down!" With that, the gnome turns back to Magnar and unleashes his cannon. > Matthias: Extraordinaire vs. Magnar
