  1. I think this would be an excellent incentive for characters to successfully complete quests. I don't think that completion of a quest is enough. It would have made the Baltarok finale more interesting, for one. Aside from that, I think there have been opportunities for reputation with different factions unrelated to actual completion of quest objectives in the past, and while I understand that most reputation comes from completing quests for the faction in question, I still think this would be a good idea to increase the incentive. Perhaps if the Veteran Classes were available after 10 completed quests, but second characters only after 10 successful quests?
  2. Not to be too off-topic, but congrats Quarryman! Just in case anyone is wondering, yesterday I got curious about what levels everyone is so I went through the Hero Statistics and ranked everyone by level. Some tidbits (all according to that page as of about 12 hours ago): 2 heroes 40+ 16 heroes 30-39¾ 27 heroes 20-29⅔ 22 heroes 10-19½ 7 heroes 2-9 7 heroes 1 and active within last month 16 heroes 1 and inactive
  3. Swatting Flies With Nuclear Weapons: The enemy is too small and quick to be hit with anything WP:5 or higher.
  4. Matthias' first action was switching to the Quiver, so he shouldn't have gotten that first attack (so The Hostage shouldn't have been damaged). Also, he has a power bonus of 1 and is encouraged, so he should have done 12+11+1=24x2=48 damage to The Assassin on his second action. Not that it matters (because his first attack shouldn't have happened), but looking at the way you ran his first attack, I'm also not sure how The Hostage took more damage than The Assassin. Shouldn't Tripleshot have hit The Assassin, then The Hostage, then The Assassin again? I understand The Assassin is in the back row, but Matthias' weapon is ranged.... > Matthias vs. Assassin- Shield (12+11+1=24x2=48x2=96 damage to The Assassin, 12+11+1=24x2=48 damage to The Hostage) Matthias is about to answer Ruffers when The Assassin does so himself. The ranger is so surprised to hear their opponent speak the crab's language that he almost drops his borrowed cannon. "I don't know what to think," he says to the crab, "but I don't think he's going to sit down over a beer and calmly explain why this other man should die. If he sells weapons to the highest bidder, so does every other shop in Eubric." That said, Matthias attacks The Assassin twice. > Matthias: XX Hand Cannon vs. The Assassin > Matthias: XX Hand Cannon vs. The Assassin P.S. - XX is also encouraged... XX vs. Assassin- Crit. (20x2+32=72*2=144/2=72 damage to The Assassin) P.P.S. - Fixed that for ya
  5. I agree - more short quests would be appreciated - and I realize it's useless to harp on people who are giving freely of their time and effort. I would like to host a quest, eventually... but if active QMs could design shorter quests I think that would help - not everything needs to be epic. Sorry . I defer to your more experienced opinion on that - I only mean that if players regularly had one character on a quest and another in the Hall, or something, it might make the Hall more interesting to those who don't do much there.... I appreciate that everything gets so carefully considered. Really, everyone who QMs or adds to this game through other means, including those players who go beyond "Hi I'm a knight, Attack Enemy X, Repeat Previous Round Actions," deserves a lot of credit in my book. I've been playing for a little more than 7 months and I have really, really enjoyed it. Hopefully one day I'll be up to contributing. For now, thanks to everyone.
  6. I firmly agree with this. The Hall could be much more interesting if there were actually people there - and we see that from time to time, like when Baltarok ended and 20+ heroes showed up in the hall all at once. The best thing for the hall would be if about half the characters were consistently there, interacting - which means we need more heroes, more (short) quests, and probably more players to take an interest outside of quests. I vote yes for nerfing Guts. More seriously, I don't think it's good to have Lucky break down as an effect by making poor outcomes more likely. If the bottom of the list got worse, that's one thing, but "too lucky" doesn't make much sense to me.
  7. Matthias is so taken by the easy handling of the XX Hand Cannon that he completely misses the assassin. Delighted at the light weight of the newer gonne, he kicks off his Winged Sandals and pulls on Alexis' Quickdraw Quiver he's borrowed, then attacks The Assassin again. > Matthias: Switch Winged Sandals for Quickdraw Quiver > Matthias: XX Hand Cannon vs. The Assassin
  8. Why do you think I asked?
  9. Thanks everyone!
  10. Thanks, that's what I figured.
  11. Speaking of ages, for some reason Matthias is listed as 51 in the Hall topic, but he should be 21 (since Gnomes only live to 50ish). Anyway, I have a question about class changes... Say Matthias (a ranger) becomes a Druid, then a Winged Warrior, then a Sylvan Ranger, then a Prophet (after years and years, obviously). How much health would he have (aside from level bonuses)? How much ether? What I mean is does the health/ether bonus from a character's advanced class stack with the health/ether bonus from expert class, and so on with the Veteran and Master classes?
  12. Awww, don't cry, I don't think he's dead....
  13. This is hilarious. Of course the printer ran out of ink - that's how the world works! Why does it say paperjam when there is no paperjam? Hooray! Wait, what? Who chose XX? And when?
  14. Matthias hesitates for a second - with the Extraordinaire, he wouldn't have been accurate enough to leave the hostage untouched. With XX's cannon, though... the ranger attacks The Assassin. As he fumbles with the firing mechanism, Matthias wonders if The Hostage really is an arms dealer... and what the man might be able to provide the party if they manage to save him. > Matthias: XX Hand Cannon vs. The Assassin
  15. You mean, "otherwise we might get a LOT of experience levels..." Man, wish Matthias was on that quest!
  16. I figured as much, but it never hurts to ask, right?
  17. Matthias nods; he can't help but agree with the sentiment. Are daggers useable as throwing weapons? Specifically, Fang Dagger (WP: 4)? Or does it have to actually say "throwing weapon" in the description?
  18. Matthias rolls his eyes in disgust as Justin continues to shiver in fear, and thinks to himself, Blast it, I could really use a weapon right now. Gotta get a backup post haste. Out loud, he whispers again to the barkeep, "You don't have a crossbow hidden under that counter just-in-case, do you?" The ranger looks from one elf to the other as they dig not-so-subtly at each other and the assassin. He hardly knows what to think, but he's glad he's not the one in the crosshairs of their deadly glares. A gunfighter with only a knife, he feels useless anyway. "I'm good with whatever you ladies decide," he says to Fenral, Calmcacil, and Berthadhiell. Glancing to the doorway, he calls out to the animal companions, "Sir Pigley! Master Ruffers! Get in here, we've got a situation!"
  19. Matthias, looking on in horror, moves immediately to pick up the Fireball Extraordinaire as Nicole slums to the floor. He tries to determine whether she's been poisoned or how she's been knocked over. As he gets close, the gnome hisses to the snivelling bartender, "You knew this would happen? Care to explain?"
  20. Matthias watches the newcomer impassively and impatiently looks at Nerwen and Alexis. Just to be clear, I'm not impatient to move on, but in-character Matthias is.
  21. No problem, I figured that my post probably just got lost in the time-warp thing that happened , and it was at the bottom of the page anyway. I would have said this earlier, but I've been on mobile all day and just got home to a proper machine. As Nicole examines the cannon again, Matthias turns to Purpearl. "Thanks, I really appreciate it. I just need to find buyers for all these blades I'm totin' around," he says, indicating the pack of swords and an axe on his back. "Sure thing - it's you who's doing me a favor, s'far as I can see," the ranger replies, "so I'll see you on Halibut Avenue soon." Turning from the bar, Matthias looks for Nerwen, Alexis, and the animals. As his eyes pass the paladin, he's sure there's a faint shimmer in the air near her table, but it is gone before he can focus. Alexis seems to be in casual conversation with the patrons at one table; the crab and his steed are still somehow enjoying the gasping dissonance of the squeezebox. "How can you two stand it?" he wonders out loud, but it's unlikely the animals can hear him over the din. Facing back to 'XX' and Berthadhiell, the gnome seems a tyke awaiting Grogmas - can't wait to get things underway so he can get his newly-upgraded cannon. "Are we ready to move on?"
  22. The ranger smiles wryly. "I didn't think that would fly," he laughs, relieved that he won't miss out on a chance to have the Fireball worked on by someone from Tritech. "I do appreciate your generosity in lending me the money though!" Matthias turns to Nicole and places the Extraordinaire in her (hopefully capable) hands. "Anything you can do to refurbish this antique is very appreciated. I'll come back in a week or so, sooner if I can manage it."
  23. The ranger looks at 'XX' with sincere gratitude - he's mistrusted 'XX' from the start, but he's beginning to see glimpses of the bombmaker's humanity, if only when alcohol and firearms are involved. "Wow, thanks..." Matthias says weakly. "You can definitely try it out whenever I get it back... although I'm not sure what I'm going to do for a weapon between now and then," the gnome frowns, this new problem clouding his glee. He decides to shoot for the moon. "I don't suppose you'd let me borrow yours and stick to the dagger for the next few days?" he asks 'XX' anxiously.
  24. Matthias can hardly believe his ears - he's ogled Tritech weapons in issue after issue of Warrior of Fortune for years, and here's a Tritech employee willing to work on his cannon! There's just one problem... "I've only got... 46 gold left," he says, forlornly checking his pockets. "I don't suppose that would be enough?"
  25. No update for Matthias? Matthias, sitting idly at the bar, wonders if Nicole's natural hair color is blonde, or whether he's merely become invisible and inaudible....
