  1. Some sort of archeology/paleontology theme. A dinosaur bone quarry set. An ancient ruins excavation set. A set featuring a vehicle that transports finds from digs. A research building. A museum that features a dinosaur skeleton and a model of a dinosaur (i.e. a dinosaur maxifig). A theme like this may not be super exciting to kids in terms of vehicles, but if you can work in dinosaurs, it has a chance at success. Basic City life sets: Eateries, libraries, schools, stores, homes, post office, banks, car wash, town halls/city offices, etc. Delivery service line: cargo planes, trains, trucks, boats, sorting buildings, shipping outlets, call centers, etc. So much stuff is sold and shipped via the internet, including Lego. Model something after UPS/FedEx/DHL/USPS systems of package handling. Make the packages Lego sets as seen in set 3221.
  2. This is brilliant. Well done! The Merc AMG is one of my favorites from the Speed Champions line, so I won't repurpose that one, but I might try my hand at building alternates out of some of the other cars.
  3. Bounty Hunter Battle Pack: Possibly Dengar; since he was in the Freemaker set they probably have a bunch of him. Some sort of IG assassin-style droid, not necessarily IG-88, though. Zam Wessel? Boussh-style fig? The bounty hunter from Ord Mantel? Perhaps there will be a fig or two that are being hunted for the bounty? The pessimist in me says it will be four IG-style droids in black or white...
  4. That rifle exists. It was in the Lego Dino theme from a few years ago. Used as a tranquilizer gun. Not sure if it ever came in black, though.
  5. This is great news! Although its not the same style building, for some reason it reminds me of Quint's shop from "Jaws". I hope it becomes a 2/3's size Modular. I would love to see tall (but not as tall as a standard Modular) 1 story and/or 2 story modular buildings. I like the "big city" Modular buildings, but it would be nice to have a different size store and home front line of Modulars for something like a coastal town.
  6. To be honest, it doesn't fit in with the official Lego modulars, but it looks great on its own! I've got a modular style Lego Store built and I'm working on a Trader Joe's for a strip mall project. This In-n-Out would fit in with that wonderfully. Well done!
  7. Classic Castle and Classic Pirate deserve a reboot into a higher-end theme. Think of a castle or pirate ship with Creator Modular detailing and building techniques, and a few small supporting sets with good minifigs. The City-style, aimed at kids versions of these themes we've had the last few years have not worked. In castle, Lego should not focus so much on "good vs bad", just have two factions of armies and some peasants instead. Let the builders decide who the good and bad guys are. Lego should go for AFOL sales.
  8. You're thinking wrong. I believe the real versions of all the street-legal vehicles available in Waves 1 & 2 were sold in the United States. I would expect this trend to continue given the importance of the U.S. market. The other cars were famous race cars from world famous racing series (F1) or world famous races (LeMans), or very famous historical race cars. If Wave 3 is heavy Japanese/Asia based, expect the possibilities to be RX-7, Miata, RX-8, 90's Supra, 350z/370z, GT-R, LFA, 300zx, Land Cruiser, NSX (new or vintage; would love a vintage one), WRX, EVO, etc. Japanese race car choices would be interesting! BRE Datsun 510...
  9. I showed my kids these, they were interested in all of them except the High School, although they couldn't figure out why the one was called "Mr. Sausage." The "Flags" is similar to a real life place near where I live called the International Peace Gardens. Its a park with grass, benches, flowers, sidewalks and flags from various countries. The "Flags" on Ideas is simple, but I could see a more complex version being viable, particularly if it had some exclusive minifigs.
  10. There's tons of great stuff, there's also a fair amount of boring and/or poor sets. 2016 has been good enough for me. I have not spent as much as I have in previous years, but the sets I did buy I'm very pleased with. The people who like the classic themes (pirates/castle/space) need to realize those themes just don't sell too well these days. The last attempt at Space (Galaxy Squad) bombed. The last Pirates and Castle did not fare much better. As mentioned above, Lego should consider revamping those themes into upper end themes instead of City-style play themes. Think nicer, better detailed sets of Medieval Market Village and Modular caliber. Add in a few smaller sets with well-designed vehicles/buildings. They need to bring back the higher quality Chess sets, too.
  11. I love and hate stickers. Putting them on is a hassle. The cockpit sticker for the Red 5 X-Wing was a real pain. You need to take care to have clean hands and a good method to apply them to make sure they are lined up correctly on the part and don't peel. However, stickers are very handy for MOC's or making different variations of a set (For me Octan and Speed Champions cars). Also, printed pieces are great for the set they come with, but are limited in their MOC use. I think Modulars, true Star Wars UCS, and high end Creator sets (cars like Ferrari F40, Mini Cooper; trains like Horizon Express, Maersk; etc) should have printed pieces. Stickers, despite their annoyances, are OK for most everything else.
  12. The Technic guys said something similar about the new Porsche 911. I also said similar things when I first heard about the potential prices for some smaller Star Wars sets. I wouldn't count out a $500 USD price tag. Think about this: Lego+Star Wars+UCS+Inflation+New Movie Featuring DS+High Expectations+Demand=Expensive It better be 10179 quality if it is that much, though.
  13. I'd like to see more sets or minifigs based on real people. More sports athletes and/or teams, musicians and bands, famous historical figures. More Speed Champions type cars, but more like everyday cars/trucks/SUV's in a City/Modular scale (Honda Odyssey, VW Golf, Mercedes C-class, Chevy Silverado, etc). Battlestar Galactica Home Alone (I think they could make a great house with some play features that trip up the crooks) The Incredibles (need FroZone!)
  14. Local rumors have new DS at $449 or $499 USD. Rumors also suggest a similar piece count (or possibly less) to 10188, but more minifigs than 10188. My personal interpretation is that it will have less "rooms" and more of an exterior. Possibly more than one micro ship (10188 had Vader's Tie). Just rumors, though. Hopefully it is an awesome set, or at least the minifigs are great. After Insult on Hoth, this DS needs to be a hit.
  15. For those interested in the shipping delay from S@H, the guy at the local store here said its because TLG wants to make sure the boxes are not damaged in transit. They had complaints about the 41999 suffering dents and dings and bent corners on the box (the model box, not the shipping box). Shipments to stores are unaffected, because those come on pallets that are a lot less susceptible to damage (less human handling). Obviously I cannot confirm this, but it seems plausible.
  16. Ha ha, although I could probably use a mental detector before dealing with some people...
  17. A lot of the complainers will buy it anyway... Why do PF matter so much to some? I can understand wanting lights, but a Lego car this size will be SLOW if driven by PF. I turned my 42000 into a Ferrari F1 car and added PF. It is SLOW, and it weighs a lot less than this Porsche will. Even to get lights, they would have had to use the small PF battery box, which is still a space eater. I honestly do not understand how people think PF would have justified the price... This is a premium, large scale product, not a little Speed Champions set. If it is out of your price range, oh well, life goes on. Save your money to buy one, or wait a couple of years and bricklink one. I can't afford a real Porsche 911; I don't gripe that Porsche did not "take away features" to make it more affordable so I could maybe buy one. I want this set, and I will have to do some things to make sure I have money for it (use VIP points, cut back on other fun/hobby expenses in my life, etc).
  18. Assault on Hoth is a dud, but Star Wars UCS has generally been good since 10179. Slave 1, Imperial Shuttle, TIE Fighter, Sand Crawler and so on. There have been some super hero sets of great quailty (Batman Tumbler, Helicarrier, Ghostbusters HQ). Cafe Corner looks nice outside, but the unfinished inside is disappointing compared to newer Modulars. All those little pieces may not add size, but they add detail... The Creator cars (VW van, Mini Cooper, Ferrari F40) are really nice if you are a car enthusiast. Lego made a mistake with Assault on Hoth, but Lego has not lost their way in my opinion.
  19. This seems like very good fan art, not final designs. It seems unlikely Lego would stray so far from the real teaser poster (example, nearly everything about Donnie Yen's character is wrong).
  20. I heard "Burnt Orange" bandied about as a possible color for this set by some AFOL's this weekend. Burnt Orange, at least to me, would fall somewhere between Lego Orange and Lego Dark Orange on the color spectrum. Here in the States, Burnt Orange is usually associated with the University of Texas' team colors: http://cdn3.sbnation.com/photo_images/10535813/155984590_extra_large.jpg I kind of hope its not... Purple would be awesome, or the dark silver/chrome color on the Star Wars Captain Phasma Constraction Figure would be neat, too.
  21. I agree. I recently watched the ANH Blu-Ray on a nice TV, and I was surprised at how dirty and scuffed up the Stormtroopers, C-3P0 and R2-D2 actually were. Maybe it was Blu-Ray, or maybe I never payed attention before.
  22. Lego tested another re-release with the Winter Village Toy Shop during this past holiday season. They got an earful from AFOL's about that, but I don't know how well the set actually did. My local Lego Store says they sell quite a bit to adults who are buying for themselves, but they also indicate these people are one (or two) and done customers, not repeat shoppers like AFOL's.
  23. This is a very interesting discussion! I buy for building and collecting, but I often buy more than I can build. Every few months I look over my collection and thin it out, selling some sets (usually ones with a nice build but with boring parts). Usually sold at a profit, I admit. Usually that profit goes right back to the TLG via another purchase... I also buy older, used sets on the secondary market. Sometimes the markup is annoying, but being patient helps score a better deal (or being savvy; I've had good success making offers on newly listed items as the sellers are often new to Lego selling and want to make that really quick $). A true burst in the market would be bad, because that would mean the demand for new Lego would go down, and new set/color/part releases would slow down.
  24. They went "All-American" on the classic Camaro rake. The Lego model seems to represent the type of car you would see at the Friday Night Drags at any number of 1/4 mile drag racing strips across America. Those often have the huge intake on the hood and massive rear tires creating some rake. Still, Lego exaggerated the rake and tire size, but that is very Lego and I love the classic Camaro. Reference pics: http://www.autotraderclassics.com/images/a/cms/75566/75566.jpg https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/236x/e9/ff/dc/e9ffdc744baf241bc04d667da49d0b47.jpg That's disappointing... The one real flaw with the first wave was that the cars did not roll all that well. The Ferrari hauler truck and basic City cars roll more freely.
  25. Does the second wave of cars use the same tan technic pin to connect the wheels?
