  1. I've gotten my fair share of sets, never had a problem. My complaint with Shop@Home is the packing. Expensive sets where I want to keep the box, sometimes show up crushed or otherwise marred. The 41999 Technic 4x4 Crawler is a prime example. I ordered that and got a free polybag. The polybag was placed on top of the crawler box, then the packing material was placed on that, and the whole thing was tightly taped up. Problem was the polybag pieces put pock marks all over the crawler box. 41999 is a limited edition set, and it comes in a very nice, high quality and display-worthy box (the box has printed signatures from the set designers and is made of a thicker cardboard than normal LEGO set boxes). I should note my father-in-law recently got the Space Needle from the Architecture line and it was missing a 2x12 black plate (or 2x10, can't remember).

    Racers 2014

Time to setup a race track scene! I've got an orange w/ black stripes version to go with the LEGO model. I bought the new auto hauler set in part to get the pieces from the cars to start blue and red w/ black stripe versions. The dark red car from the recent flat bed tow truck set will also be converted, probably a dark red w/ dark grey combination. The wheels and tires are wonderful, very modern looking. I hope LEGO releases those wheels in dark grey.
  3. Its a great set! The thin (relative to legs) body put me off a little at first, but I bought UCS R2 and have not regretted it. The legs are exquiste; very well done. The blockiness of the body is not bothersome, the blockiness of the head bothers me a small amount. Overall, its a wonderful display piece. I have "spot light" display area where once a month or so I rotate in a new (or old!) set, or small sets for a scene, for all visitors to the house to see. R2 is a favorite of the casual and even non-LEGO fans.
  4. With PF, you have more freedom in regards to where you place your layout. You do not need a power outlet nearby to plug into. No cords to trip over, either. Edit, Kringle just beat me to it! :-)
  5. Great pictures, thanks for the link! I really like the Cargo Train now. The steer and fork lift will be very useful to me, and the locomotive looks great for a starter set loco. Lots of track included, and thats always a good thing. I assume it carries a load, but the green truck seems a little out of place, and personally, I'm tired of trucks being included in a lot of train sets (Yellow Cargo, Maersk, etc) when more train-specific parts could be included. There are plenty of trucks in the City theme to deliver goods. Overall, the blue train is definite buy for me.
  6. This is a great set. It looks a lot like the real life versions of these trucks, it has nice color scheme, and it is a good play vehicle. Thank you for the review!
  7. Also, thanks for the review, it helped influence my decision to get this set. Its interesting, in pictures (especially on the box) the set looks a little blocky, even with all the rounded pieces. It looks better in person. I'm a little disappointed with the headlight and front lip spoiler (wing) design, but that is just begging me to modify it. I've already built an orange/black copy with pieces from my collection, and I'm going to bricklink parts for a red version so I can set up a racing scene.
  8. The new wheels and tires look great. Very modern, as most sporting cars produced these days have big wheels with tires that have short sidewalls. I do agree that on this set, the problem is they are not pushed out far enough to fill the wheel arch flare. Race cars use those fender flares to cover up pushed out, wide tire/wheel combinations. But, it is a $10 set, and this is a detail most kids/adults would not notice anyway. As for the spoiler (wing), it may look strange, but it is realistic. Sports car racers in many racing circuits have adjustable spoilers that are extended well off the body of the car.
  9. I think there are a lot of potential Minifigs if Lego looks at producing more children (pun intended). School uniform torsos, school accessories (back packs, note pads, etc), pig tail hair pieces for girls, kids in super hero costumes for Halloween, t-shirt/short sleeve torsos, and so on.
  10. I should rephrase. The Yellow freight train engine looks like nothing I see here in Western USA. I'm sure the engine is based on an actual locomotive. I'm newer to Lego trains. I modeled N scale trains for awhile, but I'm only familiar with American equipment. I'm sure Lego picked yellow to help grab a kid's attention and to help make the set colorful. In my local Lego Store, I see people looking at the Yellow Freight Train, and scratching their heads. They are unfamiliar with trains like that. I think this new Blue Freight Train will do better in the USA. I'm sure the Yellow Cargo Train loco is based off of a real loco. Its just something we don't see here in the USA, especially the Western part of the country where I live. This new Blue Cargo Train has a loco that looks a lot like a US freight loco. I think it will help this set do well here where I live.
  11. I bought the Yellow Freight train and its a fun set, but living in America, the yellow loco just does not grab my attention since it looks like nothing I see out on the real rails. This new Blue Freight Train loco has grabbed my attention. Hopefully that set has some real straight track with it, not just curves and flexible track like the Red Passenger Train.
  12. The online pictures do not do the Maersk ship justice, IMO. Saw it on display at the Lego Store, and it looks much better than the online pictures led me to believe. Except for the stickers... Its a set designed to hook the dad/grandfather who took their kid/grandkid to the Lego Store to buy a Ninjago or Friends set for their birthday. Those parents/grandparents have no interest in a minifigure world, but a nice looking display set might get their attention. My brother-in-law does contract work in the shipping and logistics industry. He collects models of UPS/FedEx/DHL/Freight Companies/etc planes and trucks. He has no interest in Lego as hobby/toy, but he saw this ship and had to have it. He says you would be surprised at how many people in his line of work collect models of shipping/logistics industry vehicles. As mentioned above, the timing of the "Captain Phillips" movie probably helps this ship sell. Also mentioned above, the Maersk themed sets don't stay around that long. The previous train, ships, truck, were relatively short run IRC.
  13. I grew up with the OT, and that is where my heart lies. I liked the PT better than most, but as far Lego PT sets and figs go, only a few things interest me. I read EU books for awhile (I liked the Timothy Zahn Heir To The Empire series), but mostly I have no interest in EU stuff. If the license ended, I would be saddened, but I would move on as I like other Lego themes. My kids like the LSW, but they also like other themes like Ninjago, TMNT, City, so they would be OK if SW disappeared. I have most OT stuff I want and I'm satisfied with the detail/figs/etc. About the only thing I'm hoping for is an updated TIE Interceptor and Vader TIE Advanced. The OT Rebel fighters have been updated and are good enough for me, but the 9492 TIE Fighter makes my 8017 Vader TIE seem old, not to mention it makes the old TIE Interceptor seem old and terrible.
  14. This inspired my son and I to build a simple dune/Sarlacc Pit with a bunch of tan bricks we got from the PAB wall at the Lego Store. He has the current Sail Barge and Desert Skiff, but the Sarlacc provided with the skiff was lacking without a proper pit. He now reenacts that scene from the movie quite a bit, and has fun involving non-SW characters as well. We love your scene, it is amazing! Thanks for sharing.
  15. Hi, Keith from the U.S. here. I grew up with Lego in the 80's and early 90's, almost exclusively Castle theme (Black Falcons and Forestmen were my favorites). Went into my "Dark Ages", but recently returned as my son has become interested in Lego. I had forgotten how much fun Lego is! Glad to be back. Original Trilogy Star Wars and Trains are some of my favorites now, but our Lego table welcomes all themes and MOC's from kids and adults of all ages.
  16. I'm newer to using BL. I've made about 10 purchases now, and all have gone well. Only once was the wrong piece sent, seller apologized. Piece was not that critical, so I just added another one to a later order. I have found that a lot pieces described as "used" are close to being new rather than used. Great shape, excellent shine. Ebay, you just have to be smart shopper. I have had pretty good luck overall, but I'm careful with my searching and bidding. I had one dud, bought a used 6207 A-wing described as complete and like new. Pictures looked ok. The set was complete, but not like new. The white pieces were very faded, yellowish tint to them. Other than that, my purchases on ebay have been satisfactory. I've made some good scores in medium and large lots (found lots of minifigs that were not mentioned in the listing). One area I had an adventure was a large tub of Lego I bought at a garage sale. I paid a high price, but there were Star Wars sets in there. Unfortunately, there were also tons of regular old brick, and a good portion of those were old and well used. There was a lot of non-Lego bricks and minifigs (Cobi and mega-blocks). But, in the bottom, I discovered several nearly complete Indiana Jones sets! I'm not sure I got my money's worth on that tub, but finding Indiana Jones stuff was exciting.
  17. Went to the event. My store only had damaged boxes on sale, 10 or 20% depending on the damage. The sets were a few smaller Marvel Superheros, Chima, Architecture and one Cars set and some Power Function kits. Disappointed with that part, but the PAB box was nice. I bought enough to get the Hobbit poster (nice poster, better quality than the posters that show up in some sets) and the free holiday set. Triple VIP points is nice. I got the ticket for a free key chain, my guest got one for a free set up to $16.99 in value. For what its worth, I dumped the full PAB box into a large PAB cup I have at home. The box filled the cup approximately 90%, so that was a decent gift, especially considering the PAB wall had some pieces we needed for projects!
  18. Hi, I'm new to posting here at Eurobricks but I've been reading the forums for awhile. I just wanted to say thanks to everyone in Train Tech. Nearly everyone seems very nice and helpful, and the MOD's and MOC's are incredible and inspiring. I was into N Scale train modeling for awhile, and I have a Lionel train for the family. I got back into Lego (I was into Castle back in the late 80's-early 90's) when my six year old showed interest in it a year or so ago. At that time, we discovered Lego trains. We love them! If a Lionel or N scale loco or car got ruined, there goes a lot money down the drain. If a Lego train crashes or gets destroyed by little hands, just rebuild it! We've got the Yellow cargo train, Red passenger train, Constitution and Hogwarts Express 4841. We just started some MOC add-on cars for the Hogwarts and have added PF to it. We're also building more cargo containers in different colors for the cargo train. Great fun! Again, thanks Train Tech, probably my favorite part of the Eurobrick forums.
