  1. About the rules, you can read those of the LDD and LDraw official set topics. Remember that renderings and PDF instructions could be an heavy entry barrier. Renderings require long time and a quite powerfuil PC. Create good PDF instructions could require much work and familiarity with text/image edit tools. So I think you can promote that but make these compulsory could scare away potential builders. About image size I suggest you to apply the same limits of the LDD Official Sets topic (max 512x512 for large sets) because, if instruction booklet should crop up, the set's alternative could be easily transferred inside the official sets topic.
  2. About this point, does anyone knows how to easily gather the "Pick a Brick" available bricks list?
  3. Unfortunately TLG dismissed the "Design by Me" function in LDD, so that there is not any correspondence among bricks in Standard Mode and bricks available in Pick a Brick. Fortunately LDD 4.3.5 introduces a new interesting feature that can help in this situation: the creation of a Custom Palette. We could create a palette that contains only the bricks available in Pick a Brick and use it to build model that the builder could want to order from LEGO site. A guide to create custom palette will be available soon (I hope ... we are working on it already!)
  4. I suggest you to don't add sets to an already existing post, because I could not realize that a new set has been added and don't add it to the index. Make a new post, instead. This time I noticed the new set by chance.
  5. It seems a good start! When your work will be ready, you should open a new topic similar to the LDD or LDRAW official set topics. Remember to reserve some posts for introduction, rules, index, etc... NOTE: you will not be able to add posts consecutively, because that posts will be automatically merged. So when you will be ready contact me and I'll alternate my posts to yours, and then I'll delete mine. We need to find a title for the topic, maybe "Official LEGO Sets alternatives without instructions", maybe something better The tag [KEY TOPIC] will be added by the staff, if the project will come out well.
  6. The parts are the same of the related official set built using the instruction booklets. That means you can use replacement parts and brick build solution thought for the official model and place that in the alternate one. Perhaps the beautiful thing of these "almost-official" models is that builders can confront each other finding different solutions. As the great part of the images from which the alternative model is taken don't show all the scene, there is a part of the build that can be personalized and every builder can try to build something unique and as beautiful as possible with the pieces that are available.
  7. Attachment function of the forum is good to fast share files temporarily. If you want to permanently share your files, you should use an esternal file hosting services. The most used there to share LEGO images and .lxf files is brickshelf. You have to create a free account before using it, and once upload you files, you can directly link that here in the forum (direct link images and files, and not galleries, because galleries are moderated and it may take time before become accessible).
  8. This is normal. At start you and your support guys could add a new entry every few days to promote and know the topic. Anyway if the topic works, it will be indexed in the section index, so it will be easy to find it.
  9. Agree with legolijntje. You could try to create that topic and maintain its index, if you think it is a good idea. Obviously, if you decide to do that, you will have our support. You don't need to have great familiarity with LDD. And I think you are starting very well, the idea that builders can use only the pieces available for the set (they can use the lxf present in the LDD Official Set topic to create custom palette, but pay attention to brick build replacements) is very good.
  10. In the Official Set in LDD topic these kind of alternatives are accepted as "extra". That means a builder can provide that inside his post, but only the official version is indexed. To say the true, this kind of extra is very rare. Note that in old sets usually there are not instructions for these kind of alternative, but in more recent sets often you can find that. In this case, the extra are accepted in the official set topics as alternative models. Here is a recent example.
  11. Did you read my post above? I suggested you to use the part 44567, but it is not the only one suitable (there are other hinges using the same connector). In the first posts of this topic, you can find some useful hints to help you to find the parts you need. Take a look to that. PS: please pay more attention to typos: for a not native English could be a pain to understand which the right word is.
  12. @penguinz Last three sets have the same SetId and name!
  13. Maybe a topic with the same id has been created after the resume of the database, but it is in a section where you haven't enough privileges to access to.
  14. It seems I had lost your answer! If you can buy it from official channels, it is considered "released". I didn't thought that a 2013 set could be already available in 2012.
  15. I'll move these posts inside the proper topic, as soon as RVFR will read this answer (to avoid he lost it). EDIT: I took a look at LDD. LDD provide the complete assembly (both windscreen and canopy) and call it "45406" (Bricklink ID is 45406c01 instead), f you are in the extended mode, you can use the bucket tool to make the glass transparent. About the hinge, you can use any compatible one, for example the hinge 44567.
  16. Oh, here is a post I've lost with the restore of the 10 hours old backup. Remedy immediately. @PsyKater Remember that in the official set topics you can't post a set until it has been officially released.
  17. Luckily this time the "damage" on the LDD forum has been very limited. Thanks for the fasr resume of the forum.
  18. Index updated. 175 Sets has been added to the index (113 alternative, 13 duplicate, 0 incomplete). Check your sets and report errors or inaccuracies in the index, if any! 1 Sets has not been added to the index because irregular. Known Inaccuracies: - Part 30101 replaced with a brick build solution. - Parts 32074c01 and 32133ac01 replaced with a brick build solution created and used by penguinz here. (Thanks!) - Turntable 3680c01 replaced with 74340 (substantially identical) - Tissue Flag x376px3 replaced with plastic flag 2525 - Many decorations missing, replaced if possible. Comments: As I love medieval siege machines, this is one of my favourite sets. In my real life exposition, as three bulls seems a tiny folk for four siege machines, I added three extra guys
  20. @DLuders Starfighter93 did the right thing using text links instead than include the images inside the page, because that images are too big (rules of the forum stated that maximum size is 800x600 and encourage to use smaller size, if possible).
  21. @Starfighter93 Brickshelf is moderated, and that means some days could be necessary before your gallery is accessible by us. To bypass this problem, you should directly link the images and not the whole gallery. Another thing: it would be very useful if you decide to share the lxf file, so that all here can take a look at your building technique. MOC posted in this section have the sharing of lxf file as requisite.
  22. We have reached a quite good number of adhesions, but we need the participation of all you to improve the forum!
  23. Yes, but only for these (few) parts for which this thing has been provided for.
  24. Yes, you have to remember to click the CTRL key again. The "Multiple Selection Tool" have not this problem, but looses the selection if you click on a point where there is not a brick. I agree, this thing should be fixed. Over the Bricks palette, there are three tabs: brick, templates and groups. Click on the third tab to manage groups. Look at this file (set 4956 made by me in LDD), there you can see how I grouped the set. You are true, the section plane would be very comfortable to work inside a finished structure. At the moment I obtain the same result simply selecting the bricks I want to "make ghosted" and use the Hide Selection Tool. To select the bricks I use selection rectangle (very easy to select planes with it) or I use groups (if there are suitable groups available).
  25. No problem for me, I use the Portable version I was only curious to know if you indend to maintain the installer too.
