Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
wondermonkey replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
Yes, love those. I also like a TV or radio station with a large antenna or flower shop. I couldn't CARE LESS ABOUT a hospital, bank, POLICE STATION, ETC... UGH, SORRY, I Installed THE public beta OF IOS ON MY IPAD. My keyboard just went haywire. I'm NOT RANDOMLY SHOUTING WORDS AT YOU... THERE ARE MANY OLD BUILDINGS WITH new businesses WHERE I LIVE. I UPDATED MY FIRE BRIGADE WITH A NEW FIRE TRUCK AND THREW THE LIMO FOR THE PC INTO PARTS. -
My wife and I just happened across your Sugar Cane Train video. Loved it. She wants me to build one now that it's no more. I never saw that Oahu engine run, but I always saw it sitting out by the highway. Anyway, if you're looking to give it a good home, we may be interested but you should probably hang on to that one.

Wow. I moved away from Maui not long ago and had no idea you lived there. I bricklinked several trains together thinking I was probably the only one on the island with a love of Lego trains, never really saw much on Craigslist or anywhere else for that matter. Found my Super Chief engine on Kauai had it displayed on my wall. It's still full of red dust from the cane fields.

Train storage systems? How do you store or display your spares?
wondermonkey replied to Adamskii's topic in LEGO Train Tech
I use the narrow, black picture shelves from Ikea. Track fits perfectly on them but the track is hidden behind the lip of the shelf, I like that. What I want to see is that Ghan engine. Any link to pictures of that? I want one. -

My early money is on a corner flowershop. Why else would we get a flower cart free in January, right??? -
Love dark red and English steam. Well done! I want one for my railroad.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion

Same here. My minifig bin is a horror show of body parts. I usually don't even put them together just scrape them off the table when the building is done. I like my modulars up on an Ikea shelf out in the open air. They are pretty dusty from living in Hawaii for years but I can't begin to clean off all that red dust on the roof. I clean the front once in a while, get an idea and take one down and mod it, put up a billboard or a park once in a while. I don't think I can buy just one DO, it just doesn't seem complete on it's own. You win again, TLG. -
Hopefully they bury the molds for the IR receiver and the battery boxes beneath the parking lot, like they did with the monorail track.

It'll never happen, but I'd love that. Of course, I'd never actually buy the interiors because I really only enjoy the exterior of the buildings.

MOC: 31026 Alternate Build Modular Bike Shop
wondermonkey replied to PastVPresent's topic in LEGO Town
Very nice! Maybe add something to the roof, like a billboard? Something to give it a little extra height. Are there stairs to the second floor? I'm not sure what you have left over from the original set but those are my thoughts if, maybe, you're willing to add stuff from outside the original set. I would have no problem putting that building on my modular street. -

1. Is the L in "POOL" a new tile piece? 2. Still no glass piece for those top arch windows? Ugh. 3. Please let the windows be printed. I don't need another Red Five X-Wing canopy disaster. 4. Love it, will buy it, will mod it at least a little. -

The bar rumor specifically states it's not alcohol related... coffee, juice, etc. -
Winter Village Express-- A new project at LEGO IDEAS-- Coming Soon!

I'll be happy to see more, but I like it so far. Wanting a train for our Christmas tree is what brought me back to the hobby. I think this, more than most sets, would appeal to the majority in a family.- 29 replies

That's interesting. The silence from Grogall has been deafening. I did enjoy his leaks though, the buildup to the official release seemed more enjoyable then.

I am really interested in some of the parts Ausini makes. Wheels, pilots (plow - buffers) and decorative sides for motors in all sorts of colors! I mentioned to the guy from AltBricks at BrickCon that it would be great to get some of those parts, but who knows if he'll do it. So far I haven't seen individual Ausini parts/track for sale...

OMG! You're right! I built it and threw him in my minifig bin. Time to go find Mr. White.

I dunno, I guess I think of cargo trains with steam power first. Maybe I'm odd, maybe it's because my first train set of any kind was 7722. I'd be OK with any type of steam, early diesel, or diesel-electric from any country. Not a high-speed train fan, didn't want the HE, it's like getting excited about a public bathroom to me.

2.5 Make us pick up new themes while waiting. TLG has you where they want you OTW, see you on the dark side. -
Looking forward to seeing the real deal! Nice job PeterPNL, are there any studs to secure the roof to the walls? I'm just wondering if the weight of the roof might cause stability issues otherwise.

4 plates? Good engineering! how do you move it?

Thanks for putting that up. I built it a year ago and really enjoyed the build. I added baseplates, tiles and landscaping. While a nice looking building, some of the issues brought up were pretty obvious with it next to my other modulars, namely theres no place for trains. It could work as a stand alone, but that would be a huge departure from the style of the rest of the modulars and it really requires a layout. Eventually, after about a year or so, I tore it down and rebuilt the TH. Im not really too concerned with "play features" in modulars, but it just didn't look quite right with the other modular buildings as a train station. Fun to build, but I regretfully don't see a modular train station being produced by TLG. -
Yeah I was thinking Amtrak in the US too. I like it, maybe add custom stickers (logos, numbers, etc.). Fans, pantograph, extra detailing are all great ideas but make it how you want it! My Mocs have changed so many times when I get an idea and that's why I love Lego railroading over more traditional model railroading. Have fun!

I actually just finished Bricklinking a BNSF engine... I brick built a base, used the orange windows from the arctic sets and found a decent deal on the train wheels (light gray instead of light bluish gray). In all I spent less than $80, oh plus stickers from ministickers.nl, which I highly recommend using. I did mod it a little to my liking after building by instructions. I love my Maersk, but yeah, the BNSF might be nicer to look at... Maybe it's just the satisfaction of tracking all the pieces down, I'm not sure. I'll have to get all my locomotives together, I'm not even sure how many I have.

There are quite a few colorful buildings where I live, I doubt kids chose the colors. I think it's perfectly reasonable to work in a few more 'Friends' colors as long as it's done tastefully. That yellow and dark gray building is fantastic! I'm even considering a bright light yellow grocer now.
