LEGO Collectable Minifigures General Discussion

Recommended Posts

Bag packaging for Blind Box figure products is really a big no no. Sure some are going to take advantage and feel around for the ones we want but I can foresee problems. If there is one figure more rare or more popular among fans, people are going to feel around and get the best ones for themselves or to Ebay. Then you got a poor child who begs his mom and finally gets a few packs only to see that all his 3 packs are the most disliked figures with the same doubles. That's a bit disheartening.

I'm curious as to how the decision was made to use bags. The point of Blind Box figures isn't just for companies to make money but also to promote a social trading among friends in addition to having a small surprise. Sometimes it is the little things in life that brings joy. I could picture some people on here trading with each other and having fun.

Wow, these look fantastic! The clown, ninja, radioactive man, caveman, forestman, robot, zombie, adventurer and astronaut are all must-gets for me!

However the news I've heard on how these will be sold depresses me, I'll most likely bricklink the complete figures if they're not too expensive.

Batbrick Away!

i think that someone should contact an advisor of some of the lego events such as brickfair, brickworld, and brickcon so we can set up some kind of trading system so we can get our favorite figures! i would personally like to make a large ninja army and have some archers around my kings castle seige!

my wishlist:

all of caveman

cheer leader's hair

clowns face

all of ninja (as many as i can possibly get my hands on!! >:D)

all of arhcer

teenage boy's hair and torso (wish the hair were brown, would look alot like me! i like the skull, im pirates fan!)

space man's torso and helmet

wrestler's mask

zombie's face (i want lots of these! :D)

Lovely to see pics of all the figs now.

There are so many new items in this serie.

Wonder if we have to wait 2 months to see the next wave?

Cant stop looking, and can´t stop wondering what the next will be

I think the worst part so far is unveiling to these so long before they'll be available. I'm already wanting to get my hands on these rather badly and they've only just been announced!

"Can I help you sir?"

"Eeehm, I 'm looking to buy something for my nephew." (yeah right... :hmpf: )

"Glad to help you sir, but why do you keep touching these polybags in a weird way?"

I can picture myself trying to act in a cool, like-nothing-happens way.

That's actually a good idea, though. Feeling for parts such as the clown hair (feel for one for the clown, or two for the cheerleader), or the Indian hair will help somewhat if you're trying to get a certain fig. But if there are really thick bags, like Front said, it will be pretty hard to guess what pieces are inside.

I'm still unclear on this point. It sounds like there will definitely be a complete mini-fig in each bag, in the sense that there will be one set of legs, one torso, one head, etc.

However, what I'm NOT clear on is if those pieces will all be from the same character. Will a bag contain, for example, all the pieces needed to build a clown (the clown legs, the clown torso, the clown head, etc.)?

Or, will a bag contain one random set of legs, one random torso, one random head, etc.?

I really hope that Lego will go with the former, and not the latter. Getting all the pieces needed to build a complete character in the same bag will make this a really fun thing to purchase and collect. Having to buy dozens of bags in the hopes of someday being able to assemble a complete clown, cheerleader, etc. will be expensive and aggravating.

If there's anybody out there who can definitely clear this up, that would be much appreciated!

There's no real confirmation yet, and it could go either way, but I'm betting that one complete fig, with the appropriate parts (not mixed parts), is how it's going to be done. It would be a good marketing strategy to mix parts, until kids and other FOLs get pissed that their bag came with random parts.

Setting up a thread in the BSTF forum sounds like a good idea, once these come out. Shipping may cost some, but trading is probable cheaper than buying the parts off of Bricklink.

The main problem, however, is that not all the figs have an equal amount of parts- the crash-test dummy, for example, will just have a head, torso, and legs. A lot of the others, however, will have hair and an accessory, as well. This leads me to think that we'll be getting a complete fig, but we won't know which one it is, and they'll all be randomly sorted in the box, or whatever the store sells them out of.

That's exactly what I said. I believe that the figs will NOT be mixed parts, but each fig is complete in its own bag.

We haven't seen pics of the complete figs, so for all we know they may come with accessories we can't see yet

I don't know why everyone seems to think these are indicative of new themes. Surely, if anything, it's the opposite. What would be the point of having a fun trading collectible series if the figs are going to appear mass-produced elsewhere in whole themes?

Yes, I am sure the parts will be reused (at the supposed figure of EUR50,000 a new mould, they will be wanting to recoup investment on all this stuff) but, for example, that figure is more likely to be a specific Robin Hood rather than a generic forestman presaging a whole new Castle line.

Oh? Does the crash-test dummy get a stick of dynamite, perhaps? A steering wheel?

Why would that be a surprise? In the badge shots, we can't see even half of the figs properly - the caveman, space dude and cowboy all look empty-handed, but from the Brickjournal business card shots, the caveman comes with a club, space dude with a laser gun, and cowboy comes with 2 pistols...

I do wonder if there will be a printed insert in each bag to show what all the figs are supposed to look like, otherwise how will kids know, let alone AFOLs?

Absolutely great and beautiful minifigs!

Although that the price seems a bit raised, I 'm more that sure that I'll end up with many many of them!

The forestman really reminds me the older "Robin Hood" movies and the actors that were playing the Robin Hood character.

I was thinking of the same scenario and another scene came to mind that I have been curious of. When Lego did the Star Wars Anniversary special and put 10,000 black chrome Darth Vader figs randomly into boxes, their were tons of people who went to 25 different stores with a scale weghing all the boxes finding the special edition rare Darth Vaders. I wonder how many were caught? When me and my mother went to Target a few weeks ago and were Christmas Shopping for Lego sets in the Lego isle, there was 3 kids with skateboards and I don't know what they did but security and the manager escorted them out. All the stores have cameras with people watching. Not always able to see in all the isles of course but the Lego isles are always full of kids and parents. They would see you doing it and ask what your doing or report you. Then you'd be escorted out and banned. If you come back after being banned they call the police for trespassing.

Who ever new being a Lego maniac could lead to prison! :cry_sad:

Not sure wheter all the figs comes with accessories or not. And yes there will be a small poster in each bag showing all the minifigs of that specific series.

You know, small trading things that kids like are sold in a different way to normal toys. In local shops (corner shops, independents etc) they have them on the pay desk. In franchised/chain shops (Co-Op, Spa etc) they sit behind the pay desk and you ask the person operating the till for a bag. In supermarkets they go behind the tobacco counter and in toy shops they go behind the desk. It's all to stop shoplifting or the kids opening the bags. I think these figures will be worth too much in everyones opinion to have them out like Bionicle extra bits.

What I am getting at is: You will not be able to stand in an aisle and rummage/feel for certain figures you will quite likely have to go to the desk and ask for som bags (or a box, if they'll sell it). Depending upon how they are distributed depends how easily you can buy a box. (Here's hoping for them being sold to independents from Cash'n'Carrys).

Oh, but this all counts from my experience, so it might be different elsewhere.

..., so you end up with 20 zombie cheerleaders with a syringe and caveman hair.
You just described my high school prom.

Priceless quotes

I bet TLG is already noting this down as a success, given all the discussion and speculation among AFOLs. Why is it so hard to wait? ... or to quote Eric Cartman waiting for the release of the Nintendo Wii: "Come on, come on..."

I am already saving for these guys. I am so desperate to

get them. So are they in order of how common they are?

The badges appear to be arranged alphabetical English:

1-Caveman; 1-Cheerleader; 3-Clown; 4-Cowboy; 5-Crash Test Dummy; 6-Diver; 7-Indian; 8-Magician; 9-Ninja; 10-Nurse; 11-Robin Hood; 12-Robot; 13-Rocker; 14-Spaceman; 15-Wrestler; 16-Zombie

I certainly hope there is no such thing as "how common". There should be an equal number manufactured of each minifigure per series of 16. No chase, rare or ultra-rare figures/parts please! I'm really curious as to how these will be packaged. Would the opaque foil-look plastic used for collectible card games be durable enough to withstand customers attemted groping to try to determine the contents? Little cardboard boxes like used in the 8530-Bionicle Kanohi Mask packs or the Playmobil single-figure "Special" sets would discourage this, but seems like it'd be too expensive of packaging though I certainly could be wrong. (and I remember seeing opened Kanohi boxes stashed behind other LEGO sets in stores). The ability to purchase unopened/sealed/shrink-wrapped vending boxes of 16 or 32 figures from S@H would be awesome! This seems like a natural tie-in with LEGO Universe and a way to test the waters for possible new themes.

Did anyone else think "LEGO Pogs? How 1990s" when they first saw the badges picture?

Oh man these look awesome - and just when I thought it was going to be a quiet(ish) year

I hope that you get a complete figure and not a random set of parts, but either way I'm going to make it my mission to get them all (plus extras) - I'm a sucker for this kind of collectable stuff. On the subject of accessories, I don't think that they'll all have them - I mean, what could they give the zombie? A brain? A severed limb? Tickets to the Jeremy Kyle show  ?

Have you ever bought trading figures/cards/toys from a shop (recently)? You pay, you get the blind package and that's that. No returns, no money back. They are immediate transactions. I suppose if you argued for a while they might exchange it but you wouldn't get a choice (or likely be able to return to the establishment) its how those kind of things work. Now if the figure was broken, or the parts missing you might have a case, but otherwise no dice. That is why you should try to find a way of A: Trading with local kids without looking weird (will work for me, what with my many siblings) or B: Web Trades with fellow AFOLs.

These look absolutely fantastic. I am not sure how I would prefer they do them though... I quite like the idea of random parts per bag, just to give me an excuse to buy a hundred or so. It will also prevent people feeling the bags to get the figure you want. You might be able to feel the hair, but the rest of the figure only differs in print so will be 99% random even to those with micro scales.

I will definitely be buying a quantity of these. If they don't come to NZ I might have to talk nicely to someone in the US however. (actually, even if they do come here I might try and buy a few cases from the US seeing as Kiwis pay more for 90% of our Lego)

I also like the idea of there being a rare figure or some-such "chase" element, just don't go making a chrome one of each, TLG! I want to get every single one, not just most.

I notice people were mentioning they are not sure if all of the pictures are real or generated. It appears evident that at least some are generated due to the non-standard poses. Unless these are like the Mcdonalds batman figures. *shudder*

Sure, the pictures are generated. But we will get real minifigs too
