Harry Potter 2021 - Rumors & Discussion

Recommended Posts

Prequels, sequels, spin-offs? Knock yourselves out. Remakes, reboots, reimaginings, re-whatevers? HELL NO. There are exactly five franchises I never want to see get remade, and HP is firmly among them (the others being Star Wars, Lord of the Rings / The Hobbit, Jurassic Park, and Back to the Future).

I'd rather see a show about Dobby's sock or Justin Finch-Fletchley's cousin's neighbour's wacky adventures than a remake  Or to be completely honest, I'd rather not see any show at all and new films instead. WW belongs on the big screen IMO, but that may be just me. There's plenty of potential for actually interesting material, no need for an utterly soulless, unimaginative, and pointless cash grab like that.

Both of those have been remade by Peter Jackson, but I know what you mean

I would be well up for a TV adaptation of the seven novels, but not for 20-30 years. Let the films have their day, they're only just reaching their 20th birthday.

I think it would be unwise for LEGO to make much for FB3. The general public (ie: not you if you're reading this) seemed to enjoy the original but weren't too crazed about it and FB2 killed what little interest there was in the series. The number of people interested is then decreased even further by those who don't want to support JK and those who support Johnny Depp. The demand for the film is low and the demand for merchandise will be even lower.

I could definitely see them making a brick built niffler and maybe a small-medium sized set or two if the minifigure parts from 2018 are still readily available and reusable but nothing more.  Especially since the original sets are still incredibly easy to find online and even in stores (I went to a few Barnes and Noble stores at the start of the year and they all had more of the two FB sets than all of the HP sets combined).

In terms of a new TV show I think making it a chapter by chapter exact recreation of the books would be an absolute disaster. Books always require some work to adapt to screen even if they're perfect books and while our nostalgia may tell us the HP books are perfect they aren't. The fifth film for example did an excellent job of fixing some of the issues with the issues with the book. A modern TV show is also appealing to a completely different audience than the books were 20 years ago and it would need to be more inclusive. Rowling even seems to realize this to some extent  with her retconning Heroine's race and making Dumbledore gay.  Unless changes are made to the source material a TV show would be an interesting novelty but nothing more.

Most importantly though if a remake was made you can guarantee they would make some changes to some design elements which means even more remakes of LEGO sets we already have. It will be far easier to skip a new Great Hall if its based on the same design but what if the roof is now blue in the TV show? People who want the HP line to end soon and not do any remakes should be very afraid.

Personally I want WB to just release extended cuts of the existing movies with updated effects, it would be a good way to celebrate the 20th anniversary for each film. The only ones we've gotten extended cuts for are the first two films and even those are still incomplete.

It's interesting to speculate about the future of the franchise and what it would mean for LEGO but at the end of the day the only thing that matters is which set will be the long-awaited UCS Dobby's Sock?

Depends on the marketing. If they fix the issues from CoG (or at least convince people they're able to do so) and include enough stuff to catch people's interest, I could see it succeeding on FB1 levels again. Mads Mikkelsen for instance is a perfect recast which got a lot of people hyped :excited:

I'd be very surprised if there wasn't a buildable Niffler among this year's 2HY sets. I mean they have to follow up last year's buildable Hedwig with something, right? A Niffler would sell like hotcakes even without a new film being around :classic:

I agree with your content mostly; very interesting input. Just one smartass remark: JK didnt change her race but her skin pigmentation (after suddenly finding out about the colour palette).

My 2 cents: I think theres unlimited potential in exploring universes of HP, Star Wars and others. FB did a magnificant job in showing the US perspective. They could go prequel route or even explore the universe in different parts of the world (like Japan; wizard Samurai anyone?).

My problem: I may dislike the Marvel movies and find them utterly boring but objectively speaking: they are quite competent and are a canonical masterpiece. This aint easy; DC is a canonical mess after 4 movies and lets not talk about quality. I dont know who was responsible for FBI but it really worked. It was not "Look this is like Harry Potter/in your face", it was creative, it was its own thing, etc. The second one - no offence if you enjoyed it; it was "LOOK THIS IS LIKE HARRY POTTER WE HAVE NAGINI AND YOUNG MACGONIGALL AND"...

But when studios see cash they make weird choices. Chances that some vision like Lord of the Rings comes out are unter 10%. Its more likely some incompetent suit-folk messes everything up cause they want it save (which is ironic). I also dont know what part JK had and will still have to play before becoming so interested in "female identity".

So, since hope for good content (and therefore quality Lego) is slim; I hope they go full on Michael Bay mode: I want wizard Jesus prequel and wizard Buddha as well as wizards in space.
(also what about wizard aliens? Wizard lizards vs. lizard wizards, Dobby stand alone movie, Snape vs. Predators vs. Avengers)

Some time in the future I'd love to see a complete remake of the Lego Harry Potter games, so that the updated figures are used as the models in the game. Plus they could include a lot more content.

There's so many series I'd love to see Lego themes for which would also make great video games: The Chronicles of Narnia, His Dark Materials (aka The Northern Light/the Golden Compass), A series of Unfortunate events.

If anyone has the Monster Book of Monster, is it worth the inflated cost people are charging for it online (around £40-50)?

Based off the £ I'm going to assume UK, but I know the Monster Book of Monsters is available as a GWP in the US S@H again. That may be true of other lego stores, so it might be worth having a look around. Also, if you aren't paying the "buy it now" prices, I know it went for much less at the auctions on ebay in the states. (So also worth taking a look around if you're interested.) Customs and shipping are obvious considerations, though.

To add to the "Lost in Translation" from zusammengebaut: Schrumpfhörniger Schnarchkackler is a Crumple-Horned Snorkack

While we wait for any more news, I thought I'd plug Jeremy Herbert's youtube channel.  I'm sure many here are familiar with him as he is a Harry Potter LEGO specialist, but his views are lower than he deserves in my opinion.

He reviews new and old wave Harry Potter sets (among other LEGO) and the set reviews are great - very informative with good comparisons to other sets/minifigures in the theme and way better quality than they need to be.  Especially interesting to see the older sets covered too and it's almost become an information database on all LEGO Harry Potter for me.  And for those who maybe can't afford or can't decide whether to buy new sets, the reviews give as good an assessment as any.

Speaking of new sets, anybody built anything new recently?  I'm still yet to get any of the Hogwarts moments books, would be nice to hear folks' thoughts.

The HP advent calendar is currently 70% off at Target, I just picked up two more for the heck of it. At that price, why not?

That's nice price!

I just picked 75965 for 35$ - that's a bit overpriced but it seems like prices going up week by week.

still missing 75958 and 75957 but not sure if i'll ever get it. Is it worth?

I saw the Advent calendar is cheap. But I don't need repeats of the characters since 3 were already repeats. The mini builds were fun, but after owning one...I don't know. But definitely a good price!

As for Knight Bus, this blows the 2011 version out of the water. The new purple windows are top notch. And they covered the shaping really well. I loved the older one and had both built side by side and I immediately tore apart the old one. NO question.

The carriage is clever and neat how it folds open. I have it built still, but it is rather large (I guess it needs to be to hold all the students they bring with them). Very large next to the Grindelwald escape black carriage.

If you can find them for the right price, go for it. But only you can decide if the money is worth it. I recommend both though.

Thanks for the head's up, I had a google for the UK and saw that it's half-price at a few places in the UK too (Argos and Selfridges from what I could see)

The Night Bus is really nice. I wasn't going to pick it up but I saw It for 16€ and couldn't resist getting it. I was a bit skeptical at first but after finishing the build I have to admit that it looks nice displayed next to Privet Drive.

Local store or did you find it for that price online? (And if so, where, if you don't mind?)

One of the people on IG is saying that the 20th anniversary wave will be in June and will connect to each other. It’s not an obviously fake leaker, but it is one of the ones who always reposts leaks. Seems kind of suspicious?

Yeah I mean I wouldn't trust it - unless a reliable leaker says otherwise.

If it is true, I see yellow skinned minifigures incoming. Considering I was a child when these were new, this would make me feel very old.

I can't imagine Lego going back to Yellow skinned people for HP. 20 years of it or not.

I can if they are specifically anniversary sets, even if they aren't all yellow skinned, but a 'special' extra figure just like the Star Wars 20th Anniversary line.

Meh, I hope that's a fake rumour  I know there's another wave coming plus the D2C set to boot, but pretty much half of the 2HY range being consumed by anniversary sets would be way too much for my liking. Especially since we don't know what these sets would entail... (only 2001 stuff or the whole catalogue up until the current reboot? The Star Wars anniversary also didn't focus on 1999, just saying)
