[EBFS] Garden Railway

Recommended Posts

I'm not fully decided whether this should be here or in Town, but I created it with trains in mind so I've put it here.

"Create a garden for your theme"... well, that's clearly going to be trains, so I can either put a garden in a train or a train in a garden. With only a 16x16 area, I thought a railway wagon might be a a bit small (but @Pdaitabird proved me wrong, so I'm glad I didn't try it!). However, I thought a LEGO minifig-sized garden railway might work... and it does!

The young and the old railway entusiasts watch as an unidentified BR tank engine hauls a pair of Carmine-and-cream MK1s around the loop, endlessly...

The garden features every LEGO plant, flower and shrub I own! It also features a miniature station building, a bench for Grandad to rest on, and a small workshed - complete with toolbox and cup of tea/coffee/hot beverage.

Behind the shed is the control gear, that via a few bevel gears turns the green disc the train is fixed to, causing it to rotate. In an ideal world the turning disc would be grey and the the central "island" green, but I don't have the parts in the right colour so they're the other way around!

Finally, you can see it in action below!

That's awesome! I love the turning mechanism, as well as how the train passes through the shed like a tunnel. Well done!

Love it. You might have to fix your tag if you want it to participate in the competition though - I think the tag should read "EBFS", not "[EBFS]"

Just like @Phil B said, If I search "[EBFS]" tag, then only this shows up and the other submissions don't, therefore you may not even up participating. Again, the tag should be "ebfs" not "[EBFS]". But still cool.

Also, was this posted as a MOC on Rebrickable yet?

I needed something to bridge the "railway", in order to keep the central island fixed. I couldn't manage a realistic hillside or tunnel scene, so I went with the shed - inspired heavily by the "Maryloo" signal box on the Beckonscot Model Village (search YouTube for their "driver's eye view" video, it's awesome).

The train itself is not original in concept, but probably unique in the exact realisation - it's based on similar designs I've seen before, but I experimnted with several different sizes, arms and discs and things until I settled on what you see above.

And as for the tags - thanks for the tips @Phil B & @mindstormsboi, I rarely post topics so haven't properly got the hang of them. I've changed it, but I don't think it really matters - entries are all posted in a topic called "The Showground", where each post is a title, a single picture and a link to the detailed topic. This way it doesn't matter what people title or tag their topics at all, as the entries are in one place anyway.

Nope - I have a Rebrickable account, but only to keep track of my parts rather than to share and look for MOCs.

That is fantastic! The implementation is amazing. (BTW, the mark of a true garden railway is a hole for the trains to enter your house or shed).
