Didn't realize that the 42070 B was so big... and how come 42054 has the most pieces of all but seems to be the smallest? Weird.

Anyway, loving this topic. I doubt I would be able to find pictures like these anywhere else!

I have as well! I've since rebuilt the tow truck though.

So am I. To be honest I don't really get the hate it's received. It's a futuristic concept off-road expedition truck in the vein of the mid-90s/early 00s Technic sets. Plus the opening panels are totally cool.

You may notice 42053's boom is off center. The real boom is off center, so the designer replicated that feature as well.

It's a nice coincidence that 8043 A and 42053 A are excavators, and 8043 B and 42053 B are loaders. So comparisons between the two B models are inevitable.

Now I'm sure everyone should be fed up with construction equipment comparisons by now. So I'm bringing you something you probably have never seen before and probably will never.

Comparisons of all the 6 wheelers that have 30x20 rims. The original plan was to include 8109 B as well, but I don't find it aesthetically appealing enough to add into my collection.

9 years of tracked loaders.

8043 B is a very nice model, and was the RC loader + RC fun tracked model before those concepts become cool. I'm well aware that 8275 is the first RC tracked model, not 8043 B, but 8043 B has higher speed, and thus more suitable for the RC fun tracked model role. I still remember how fun I found the 8043 B to be when I first built it.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The new loader has a way better appearance. The old one was full of LBG and DBG, and those colors dilute the look and make the model visually messy. The new one, however, consists of solely black and yellow, which creates a stronger contrast and a clear color block. In terms of playability though, the 8043 B is way ahead.

Finally got some time for myself. Since I've just got my paws on a 8110, I immediately think of 8110 vs 42069. Both of them are 4x4 off-roaders. 9398 is not included because it doesn't have a common drive train between two axles.

The comparison between these two models is very interesting because 8110 chassis represents a luxurious way to build a 4x4 off-road chassis, while 42069 chassis is a more casual one.

- 8110 chassis use ball joints, which haven't been released in an official model for quite a number of years and as a result are quite pricey on Bricklink, while 42069 chassis doesn't require them.

- The drive train in 8110 is also more fancy. It has a middle differential, and involves transmitting two separate axles (one for drive, one for steer) several levels up into the top plane, so that one goes to the 4 inline engine and one goes to the HOG steering. That means the two separate axles have to go through several 16z clutch gear On the contrary, in the 42069 only the drive axle needs to be transmitted 3 levels up. The steer axle just go straight to the perpendicular redirection and to the HOG steering.

The common tragedy of dumpers-as-B-models-of-A-model-loaders is that their beds are either shallow or skeletal, or, in the case of 42094 B, both.
