JJ2's Moc collection and WIP's

Recommended Posts

I have seen a lot of other people doing this so I though I would pitch in.

Here are a few MOC's I never posted.

If you could not guess its the curiosity rover, I built this a while ago but never really decided to post it.

That's all I have for now but I will keep this topic updated on what I'm building.

Looks great!

Must get my hands on those wheels, do the track links roll on the rim?

They stay on fine for a display model but they can slid on the rim like the 9398 wheels or fall of if you were to use them for driving something.

Can you give us some details on the modified u-joint from a previous WIP photo?

28013998460_714f00a012_c.jpg

They are Traxxas U-joints that I bought from my local hobby shop, I used a metal axle and a worn out New type 8T gear to hold the output axle.

The part numbers are #7150 #7057

I have not used them yet but plan too.

Here is a X-wing that I built a couple years ago freehand so I just built it to resemble the X-wing but not an exact copy. The front is so strong that you can wield it like a club and the wings do fold down and lock together.

I changed the front suspension completely on this project to have less slack and it is much more rigid now.

I made a differential cover out of some metal scraps from my garage, so far it has kept out dirt and other practicals that would cause friction.

Cool RC build! Really like the suspension you came up with...!!! Any ideas on the body work of this beast?

Porsche

I dont think its going to qualify for the competition.

Cool...!!! Why not...

I have read the rules and it does not say you cant use 3rd party parts... unless I'm blind.

After making the oscillating vacuum engine I wanted to make a more traditional one.

The engine is quite simple with just a cylinder, crank, and valve, the crank is offset *90 from the cylinder and every time the cylinder goes down the valve opens sucking it up then it closes letting the crank go a full *180 then the process starts over again.

I'm happy with the performance but I have to say timing it was a real pain.

I finished the video for my Porsche entry but its not a Porsche anymore.

Ill be making a detailed topic on how to use RC parts with lego soon for all the curious.

Here's a failed project that I;v been working on for a little bit.

It failed because the Traxxas motor was spinning at a very RPM, was hard to gear down without causing high friction, it was way to large, and the front axle steering was going to be too weak.

I made some adapters to use the non-lego esc with Lego and the receiver-controller and made another version on my super crawler to test it out, the best part was the range and intimidate control over the motors, the steering servo worked well but a higher torque servo would have been better.

you can see the receiver and ESC here, I used double sided tape to keep them on the Lego pieces

I could have used a lego servo but mine are broken and there was no way of adapting them so I just used a non-Lego one

The rear axle is a slightly improved version of my V1 axle with less flex and different mounting points

High Torque Differential v1.1 3d printed

This is the differential I used on the front axle.

Great Performance!

But is the gear ratio on the front and back axle not different?

Chris

No, the front drive gear is 12T front differential is 36T and the gears in the portal axle are 12T-20T while the back drive gear is 12T-20T and te gears in the portal axles are 8T-24T. It's a little confusing but both axles have the same ratio but the gears are in different places.

Very nice.  How would you rate the performance to the V2?  I took the V2 out this past weekend over some rocks and curbs and it performed extremely well.
