That was me trying to be (slightly) restrained!...  I even counted the new prints! Tried to keep the fig count (vaguely) close to that from the Bugle, only went with the two lantern characters in the super movie or confirmed for the sequel, okay I went off the rails with the animals... But I still think they should include a gorilla character of sorts to reflect DC's obsession, preferably Humanite or Monsieur Mallah, or a least a chimp of the detective or Bobo the super variety... 

Now, if you want me to go full aslume then DC's favourite number is 52, what better way to celebrate Superman than with a beautiful Lego sky scrapper (Hopefully a tan stonework and sandgreen roofing art nouveau style thing with a gorgeous globe quite different from the Buldge) with 52 Superman related characters and otherwise DC characters.

Also on the Mxyzptlk front, my mind might be very warped from borrowing too many old Superman family showcase presents collections from the library as a kid but he's like Superman's second biggest rogue to me after Lex in my eye. Zod who? Bizzaro Uh? Ultraman nah! It's all Mxy! Mxy all the way down to Kltpzyxm town.

(Also, not to be crass but I don't think we would get powergirl without the most unique part of her costume being removed, in which the figure would essentially be no more accurate than the purist customs you can already make- since we know the face would be kitbashed and there'd be no leg printing)

Here's my guess:
Re-used: Superman (from mech), Batman (from Logo), Lex (from mech)

Kitbashed: Perry White, Clark Kent, Lois Lane, Jimmy Olsen, 2-3 random civilians that will have the names of obscure DC civilians haphazardly slapped on like the bugle.

New: Supergirl (new torso, legs and head), Bizarro (new torso and head), Braniac (new torso, legs, and head), Mr. Terrific (new head and torso), that stupid mutt (new mold shared with buildable carpet set).

Well I do have a purist Powergirl in my display case (using a backwards Nurse Harley CMF torso, I know I put it up here on EB at some point a long while back) but I do still think Karen deserves some official Lego representation! I meant she does have (admittedly less iconic) alternative suits without the boob window. And they have printed chest cutouts on other outfits like Ahsoka's so they could do it, perhaps on the smaller side with no printed cleavage just a flesh coloured spot in the cutout which would be enough ( any way less suggestive than the totally not made up Yelana's office set's figure lineup) but anyway enough about that.

I do think that given the characters in the picture in Bootlessbrick's post ( which yes weren't corroborated themselves unlike the Daily Planet D2C itself but still they could mean something since this guy clearly knew something) that we'll get the entire Soup-or-man[2025] justice gang trio whether in their movie looks or more traditional comic inspired designs. Maybe Metamorpho too but I kinda don't mind about him since I have his CMF fig and it's a great representation of a character and TBH the movie one is close enough for the CMF fig to work for either.

I’m assuming it’s comic based, as that gives Lego the opportunity to reuse Man and Jonkler.

Reuses (some with slight upgrades like dual moulded legs): Superman, Krypto, Batman (he could also be new if they do a blue + grey World’s Finest suit), Joker, Lex Luthor

Kit bashed: Jimmy Olsen, Perry White, Steve Lombard, Cat Grant, Mercy Graves, Clark Kent (but with a new face print)

New: Lois Lane (purple shirt), Supergirl, Wonder Woman, Braniac, Mr Terrific, Green Lantern (either Guy or John but not both), Hawkgirl and General Zod.

18 minifigs and a reused animal seems like a likely number. Could be reduced to 16 if Lego excludes Batsy. Only 4 villains seems reasonable here as 3/5 of the ones selected are some heavy hitters.

And then whichever Green Lantern isn’t used is given a mech vs reused Zod set. Reusing the new green and black dual moulded legs.
 

Honourable mentions who barely don’t make the cut: Steel, Jon Kent, Booster Gold, Livewire, Metallo, Cyborg Superman, Parasite and Bibbo Bibbowski

I did almost put Joker in my list, but for an alternative Arkham reuse they could do Damian to pair with Jon Kent for a super sons type thing.

On the topic of Bibbo I wanted to make him from the Lego Dimensions Gooners level pack using the included character's torso. I had hope I might find the pack on deep discount like found some of the others, but I never did. I know they redid the Gooners in the idea set but I have no attachment to the Gooner movie and I don't love Bibbo enough to go on the hunt for the torso. TLG themselves could reuse the torso for Bibbo but I assume they wouldn't because Gooners is a separate license (though it does have the house of El crest on it? So who knows?).

If it was a Soup movie set I think Lexcorp (or Luthor corp as it is the film) would've been the better set, then again IMO the same could be said of a generic comic inspired set. Lexcorp would give us the opportunity for Goons with repeated torsos too!

Honestly I think it's more a case of DC pushing him so hard. If they didn't keep stealing other lanterns' stories for him he'd probably be just fine. But when you keep murdering, enevilling, or otherwise sidelining Hal just to push John as the main lantern, it's gonna make people resent him.

I didn't consider this, but yeah.... there's a real chance we lose a figure slot and two prints to the real main character of the DCU.

If this does happen, odds are Lego would use existing pieces and not new prints, so it’s not likely he’d have taken up a slot that could have been used by someone else.

Considering it’s still in production, we better see the return of the Superman curl. Also, a phone box side build which lets you transform Clark to superman would be great

That was also in an Avengers Tower set which served as a flagship for the first three phases of the MCU. 

This is more likely a flagship for Superman as a character or a movie tie-in for Superman and Man of Tomorrow. James Gunn isn’t as essential to the Superman mythos as Feige has been to the MCU. 

Also, the MCU has far more figures in other sets they could throw in such that including Feige with new prints was actually enticing for fans. Even the most die-hard James Gunn fan is likely gonna be disappointed if new prints are wasted on a figure for him.

These are all good points and ones I included in my original comment before deciding to make it more concise, but there is another difference between the two.

Gunn is VERY front-and-center for this DCU. You can ascribe it to ego, thinking a strong "face" is needed for the brand after all the creative clashes, whatever, but he's made himself a very public figure for this set of projects, moreso than pretty much any other studio head ever has. Krypto is based on his dog, and like most films he's made the father figures are based in part on his dad. We've never seen lego make anyone a custom set for their birthday before, or a studio head liking posts about leaked lego sets.

But I hope it's Comic Based similar to Arkham with a lot of references from different pieces of Supes Lore. I really liked Supes 25, and am excited for MoT, but I don't think a D2C Based on the DCU would sell super well...

A Comic Based D2C Planet is a much safer bet for sales. IF Batman is in the set, I hope they give us a minifigure of his Classic Grey and Blue Suit.

Interesting that it‘s in the new Superheroes number range (67xxx) rather than the Art one (31xxx), just like the Gotham skyline. Maybe it comes with a minifig?

I hate that this isn't really a joke and is actually a significant increase in variety compared to the past half-decade or so.

I forgot that he inserted himself into that show as well. 

The smart move is to make it comic based... although I think if Batman's included, it'll be a re-use. I almost hope it is- it would be frustratingly typical of Lego to finally make the planet and then use some of their limited new prints on Batman.

Here I was hoping it'd be a set to go before the modular and bleed some figures like the X-Jet or the Gargantos set who both had all but one of thier figs reused in thier following big Modulars.

Maybe there’s a minifigure in the buildable Krypto that’ll be reused.

That or there’s another smaller Superman set on the way that we haven’t heard about yet. So far there’s always been at least one other set that the modular building has shared some figures with and I’d be surprised if that trend doesn’t carry on here.
