Even if the DCU gets canned next year, there’s still likely going to be some films from that universe that start filming between now and then which will release after The Batman part 2 (so long as it doesn’t get pushed back again).

Also, I doubt it’ll be canned. If Man of Tomorrow flops, most likely case is Gunn β€œdecides to step down” and they bring in somebody new for a soft reboot.Β

Oh yeah I didn't mean that there wouldn't be any more projects, I just meant that the universe would be cancelled. Sort of like that last weird in between period after The Batman 1 where we got stuff like blue beetle and that one that changed the hierarchy of power in the DC universe.

Honestly I think if Lanterns doesn't get the numbers they want there's a good chance Gunn is voluntold to just be the superman movie guy and somebody else steps in to fast-track batman and wonder woman DCU movies. Superman is really the only thing they have going for them in terms of the GA, I think if MOT were to bomb (which again, I don't think it will) they scrap the DCU the same weird trickle way they did with the DCEU.

Nah bruh, The Batman 2 delayed again, this is the GTA 6 of movies, I really think there is creative clashes behind the scenes, Gunn and Reeves, Gunn is an ego maniac and a liar, Superman was the start of the DCU, Then Creature Commandos, then actually Clayface starts the DCU, this lineup is so stupid, was it that hard to make a Wonder Woman, Batman movie after Superman, I'm gonna say it now, Man Of Steel, Batman Vs Superman and Zack Snyder's Justice League is better and makes more sense than Superman,Supergirl,Clayface

I really liked David's portrayal of Superman besides getting beaten up by Krypto, I liked Superman 2025, I thought Lex was a great villain but it just felt like Guardians of the Galaxy, a group of misfits teaming together to save the day, the justice gang I hated, should have focused on Superman only, every Gunn film is just GOTG, silly humor and needle drops, Supergirl was basically Starlord with headphones and a trenchcoat

It's a shame, I would have loved to see a DCU that's like the animated DC movies

Just scrap everything and focus on the Reeves Verse, the only good thing to come out of DC in the past few years

I hate Disney but I hate to admit, they are slightly smarter than WB

Hey man, good to have you back.
Β

I get you have a clear preference. But I don’t particularly want to wait 5-6 years for each instalment of what is ultimately yet another grounded Batman adaptation. Something which Nolan already did in a year longer timeframe than the wait between Reeves-verse 1 and 2.

Again comics.

I had faith in the Gunn. I am a huge fan of his Soup. And I am excited for MOT. But I will agree that most of his decisions are baffling.

Deathstroke x Bane movie? Could be cool. But 4-5 years down the line with Batman or the Justice League as the antagonist.

Lanterns? I want it to be good so badly, I’m still holding out a sliver of hope. But shadow realming my GOAT, going for a grounded story which isn’t Hard Travelling Heroes, not making it primarily a space cop epic, not having the suit be green and hiring the chequered Tom King instead of proven good GL writers such as Johns, Tomasi or even Vendetti seems like a huge misstep.

Supergirl? Should have been the 5th movie at least and the script should actually have lived up to Gunn’s hype.

Clayface? Actually you know what, I’ll give this one a pass if it introduces DCU Batsy.

Lack of Wonder Woman? Absolutely abhorrent.

I honestly don’t think DC movies can survive another reboot. Either Gunn succeeds or everyone but Batman gets shelved for a decade or more.Β

I agree that Snyder, ironically as that’s what got us in this mess, had slightly better linear continuity.

But are we really going to pretend Suicide Squad, the 3rd movie in the snyderverse which was notoriously bad wasn’t just as bad a pick as Clayface or Supergirl?Β

I will give Snyder credit where credit is due. He made sure that Wonder Woman was the 4th movie in his universe. And it’s arguably the best in it. At this rate Wonder Woman won’t even be the 6th movie in the DCU.

I'd argue it was the moviesΒ  after Wonder Woman that got us in this mess, Justice League was the studio version not Zack's, things went downhill after Wonder Woman imo

But yeah, the DCEU was a mess, best part of it for me was Batfleck and Superman, I feel like DC will never get a cinematic universe right, it will probably just be batman movies from now on

it's crazy because DC had the perfect chance to dethrone the MCU since it was failing so badly, but WB will WB

Lanterns is a mess, afraid of being green, I don;t understand why can't you keep Hal aswell as John, you don't have to get rid of one, have them both there

I think standalone movies are the way going forward, not connected, its own thing

Like how it was in the 2000's, Batman Begins, Superman Returns, not connected at all

Yeah I really wanted to be hyped for it, but I'm just not. Green Lantern the Animated Series was my Jam! GL stuff is the best DC stuff outside of the Bat stuff and they're doing it dirty. I like the peacemaker show but this needed to be for a more universal audience, to make Green lantern more of a big thing, and frankly for a series with a power system based in colour it's insane how drab the trailer looked.

You mean Grumpy Uncle with Severe Food Allergy? :snicker:Β Sorry to say, but that Sinestro design looks pretty poor, at least judging by the Funko figure. Say what you will about the 2011 movie, but at least Sinestro actually looked like Sinestro, rather than an angry raddish :laugh_hard:

Hal looks good though! Johnβ€˜s whatever, we need to see his actual costume.

Imagine if they did, if the whole advertising campaign for the show was done entirely through funkos, we'd get whiplash when the show was live action. It'd be pretty funny though.

I think it's telling about this show (and the state of the DCU IMO) that a funko pop of Hal Jordan in a somewhat desaturated GL suit, a sunburned man with Red Hulk's mustache, and Aaron Pierre in his street close elicits the reaction "Much better. Why didn't they lead with this?"

A lot of people are turning around on the second trailer, but, like... why? Yeah, it seems like Hal actually has some green on his suit, but it also seems like he's gonna wear the suit for all of five seconds. Otherwise it feels pretty much just like the third trailer. It's also

Spoiler

Very clear now that those leaks were true and he'll be dying in episode one, to the point he explicitly tells sinestro Jon is his replacement.

As someone who's not seeker anything about this show out. Very funny it's advertising itself on being "guys in jackets" like from the posters, promo images and clips I've seen it's just 2 guys in jackets walking in a desert town.Β

And to be clear, I'm not talking from a comic accuracy point like everyone else here, even as just a generic cop show, what the megabluck is supposed to hook me here?Β

Still kinda crazy that this drab-looking show is set in the same universe as the very colorful and comicbook-y Soup (2025). What happened? :snicker:Β Between this and the equally color-free Potter show, is HBO just allergic to color?

House of Dragon suffers from this as well.

AKOTSK and Peacemaker are the exceptions for some reason.

I kinda like Hal’s suit here. It feels like a combo between Kyle’s 2nd suit and Hal’s traditional suit. Gives a kinda black ops style. Wouldn’t mind some white though.

I’m now cautiously optimistic compared to my former doomerism.Β

Spoiler

There appears to be a shot of the bearded John (likely 2026 timeline) with a younger looking Hal Jordan. Our boy might not die immediately after all.

Also manhunters as villains/ Millenium adaptation kinda makes the earth vibe more understandable. But Istg if I hear someone say β€œMartian Manhunter and the white Martians!” One more time I’m going to Parrallax.

This does more for me than the Doomsday trailer anyway.

If they wanted to do a cop-show inspired series for GL True Detective was never going to be the best template.

It’s Brooklyn 99. And I’m not even kidding.

They do like taking the colour words out of DC superhero shows, Green Arrow became Arrow way back when (and he never wore the Robin hood hatΒ :sad:Β ) and now green Lantern(s) is just Lantern(s)

I do prefer optimism to pessimism but unfortunately I'm not quite there yet myself.

From what I've seen it looks like they took all the wrong lessons from the Ryan Reynolds films. I do also wish it was a all audiences friendly show because most of DCU is 15 or 18 rated already and I wanted Lego sets ( hey it's a Lego forum I can admit that that's 50% of my reasoning here) but Lego's ignoring the DCU anyway so it's whatever.

This might be the DCU's biggest mistake (Or not doing Batman and Wonder Woman movies within the first few years.... or the supergirl movie... or turning the kryptonians into the viltrumites... or...). Why limit your audience so much? Kids are a huge part of the superhero audience- you can have your Deadpool or Peacemaker, but you can't make something that actually competes with the MCU if the MAJORITY of your projects so far are R-rated. This would be like if an MCU reboot went:

R-rated season 2 of a formerly MCU Cable series, animated R-rated Legion of Monsters series, Captain America movie, Falcon Cap movie somehow worse than the one we got, R-rated Iron Man series where the suits are nanotech not visible under their normal clothes, Tony is killed immediately and it's all about Rhodey.

All that to say- you can get away with an obscure animated series, maybe one based on a generally R-rated character, but you can't make one of your first avengers an R-rated series.Β

Well now that the Paramount-WB merger is falling through, I think Lego DC’s best hope is if Universal buys the DC IP. That way we can finally restore the rightful universe and get everything back on track.

#RESTORETHELEGOBATMANMOVIEVERSE

Lego Batman 2: Superfriends

Lego Superman: Building a Better Tomorrow

Lego Green Lantern: Construct of Will

Lego Wonder Woman: The search for the invisible bricks

Lego Flash: Speedbuilding 101

They skipped Avatar 3β€”that movie underperformed.

They made a ton of sets for Avatar 2 which became shelf-warmers, of course they wouldn't repeat that mistake (and Avatar 2 actually performed well at the box office but come on. Sets for kids. For that movie!).

The same goes for Wakanda Forever - decent box office, bunch of shelf-warmer sets. Pretty much every Marvel movie since that and Eternals has had much more limited LEGO releases.

Meanwhile Thor's Goat Boat from the dreadful Thor 4 movie is apparently still popular enough in LEGO form to get a polybag even now, several years after the movie and the set. Box office and set success don't always go hand in hand.Β

You also mentioned Thunderbolts but that movie did at least well enough to allegedly get a sequel. Which is more than can be said for BNW. (To be clear, I do expect there to eventually be a new Cap movie. But it would either have to have Steve as the lead, or Sam would have to team up with a truly popular character who'd have to do all the heavy lifting.)

And I’m very glad they did :laugh:Β I’m not the biggest fan of the movies, but the theme ranks among my favourites in the β€œshort-lived license” category. All the sets are visually striking and fun to build!

In terms of profit BNW is definitely a bigger failure, you're right- pretty reliable sources claim the budget alone- without marketing or theatre cuts- was 75% of their box office. Thunderbolts most likely broke more or less even. I just meant that somehow, more people watched Brave New World. (I did my part- I didn't watch the former in theatres but saw the latter 3 times)
